Any use for Callahan and Sentenza for a swordsman? + AP question

As a swordsman, who's only non-sword weapons are:

Blitz Needle for Trojans and Vanaduke
Valiance for switch shooting (more convenient than Blitz which stops you from moving)
Nitronome for pushing enemies away and making small safespots by spamming it one place because of the knockback
Shivermist Buster for FSC and Vanaduke

I ask, would there be any real use to have Callahan and Sentenza from the perspective of someone that uses swords for almost everything?

Also:

If AP becomes pure Elemental damage, would that mean it would become a resisted gun against Vanaduke?
If so, what gun would be best to solo Vanaduke with?

I can't think of one. Unless

I can't think of one. Unless there's a specific enemy (i.e. Alphas) that bugs you at close range, then just stick with the swords.

After damage change on AP/Sentenza, AP at pure Elemental will be resisted. At that point, there will be exactly three piercing guns: Blitz Needle, Plague Needle, Callahan. Not sure about the viability of Callahan for Vana soloing, but assuming it's not viable, then the best gun may still be AP even with the resisted damage. Or possibly the Valiance, though also resisted.

semi-informed responses

I'm primarily a swordsman too, but I have several 5-star and 4-star guns (Callahan, Blitz, Hail, AP, Sentenza; Gigawatt, Shadow, Master Blaster), so I'll tell you what little I know.

As you probably know, Sentenza may be changed to pure shadow damage. So put all Sentenza plans on hold until that is resolved. Vanaduke's body is slightly vulnerable to piercing, and neutral to everything else? So a pure elemental AP won't do quite as much damage as the current AP?

Gunslingers seem to like Callahan because it's the most mobile of the three piercing guns. Its bullets are fast enough to hit all beasts and fiends. Some people swear that Blitz/Plague can be used against wolvers quite well, but the learning curve is higher. Callahan can stun, which is ordinarily nice, but it seems that there is currently a "bug" in Vanaduke's behavior when he gets stunned, so Callahan could be counter-productive.

If you're carrying your BTB/FF, then you don't need a Callahan. But if you're not carrying BTB/FF --- perhaps because you're trying out being a gunner? --- then Callahan is your default piercing weapon.

Vana's body is slightly weak

Vana's body is slightly weak to piercing, and slightly resistant to everything else, including Normal. So AP at present is dealing regular damage (part resist, part weak = regular damage), and pure Elemental AP will be resisted.

I'm a gunner and I've used Blitz and BTB for quite a while now. Everything that isn't a Trojan/Vanaduke is a pain to kill with the Blitz, and I tend to find myself using the BTB instead most of the time (and dying less when I use it). Alphas still kill me more than anything else. Blitz might be easier to use if you have some CTR on it, but all in all the answer to the "which Piercing gun is best for everyday use" question is Callahan simply because the Blitz is just so incredibly immobile.

The resistances on vanaduke

The resistances on vanaduke are like 0.0001% He looks more neutral to everything.

. He receives more shadow damage than a zombie from my faust
. he receives like just 15 extra damage than a zombie with my barb thorn blade
. avenger damage almost matches the power against neutral targets, like jellies, again the differnce is pretty low.

Curretnly an Ap does around 75 damage, with the nerf it should go for no less than 67 damage if they do it right. UNLESS vanaduke is truly resistant to shadow and elemental, but my faust and avenger seem strong beacuse they have half normal. I need to make a Levi to be sure.

Those are on first 3 phases, i'm not that crazy to use swords on final one.

The standard swordie sidearm

The standard swordie sidearm these days is the Polaris. It's fantastic for killing all three turret types, and occasionally for taking down retrodes and lumbers while staying out of range of their attacks.

The Callahan's primary use for a swordie will be for mender/silkwing sniping.

Sentenza wouldn't have much use for you other than breaking prize boxes and crystals quickly.

@nicoya

sentenza is good for fast enemies you want at a distance, such as wolvers and gremlins.

@Isenfir I think the Callahan

@Isenfir I think the Callahan would deal with those better, since it packs more damage into fewer shots. Gremlins and wolvers dodge too.

@Isenfir

Nicoya is right, gremlins and wolvers are devils with setenza, made easy with Mega Magnus.
Hopefully made even easier with Spike Shower, gotta try it! Just crafted it.
