Hey guys, I've got a little issue with running the program. I've got the client downloaded and everything seems to be running perfectly fine. But the problem is when it's loaded, I can't seem to see the alphanumeric characters on the screen. They're all black dots, as if there was some sort of text file missing/I don't have the text installed in my computer. At least, it seems that way. There's a link below as to what I see when I start up the game.

This is usually a computer

This is usually a computer video driver/hardware issue. The text files used by the game are actually installed with the game in it's folder. Have you gone trough the Technical Help Sticky? If so please post the steps you have taken and the details of your computer as per the instructions.

Technical Step-by-step

1. Does your computer meet the minimum requirements to run Spiral Knights?

The minimum said requirements:
Windows & Linux:
- Windows XP, Vista or 7
- Java 1.5
- Display 1024x600
- 1.3ghz processor
- Graphics: 64mb Video Memory. GeForce 5 series, ATI Radeon 8500. Latest video driver.
- Memory: 512mb for Windows XP or 1gb for Windows Vista/7
- 300MB Hard drive space

My computers' stats:
- Windows Vista - Business
- Java 6 installed (1.6_024)
- Display of 1280 x 800
- 2.13 GHz Processor
- Graphics: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family - Intel Corp.
- Approx Total Memory: 358MB
- Memory: 2038MB
- 160Gb Hard Drive, but installed on a 180Gb External Hard Drive

2. Is your video card running the latest video drivers?
- Performed an update for the drivers.

3. Are you running the latest Java release?
- As mentioned prior, performed an update for the drivers.

4. Do you have a firewall?
- As per normal, I shut the firewall down to play games. I have an Anti-virus Program which regularly scans my computer, along with MalwareBytes to scan the little bastards that don't get detected.

5. Are you getting a black screen/a malfunctioning full-screen/bad resolution?
You will need to try and set Spiral Knights to its minimum display settings:
- Yeah, through Registry Editor, I fixed up the code for the resolution.
- This is where I stop in the steps; when I run the game, all I see is blocks for characters. x.x

6. The Windows Shotgun Approach

Assuming your PC meets the minimum requirements (see step 1), the below refresh/upgrade routine is likely to address most known problems in one shot. Please do the following steps in the exact order listed:

Uninstall Spiral Knights (if it was installed locally).
- Done
Install the latest video drivers for your video card (see step 2).
- Done
Download the latest java (see step 3).
- Done
Validate your firewall settings (see step 4).
- Validate something that's deactivated? o_O
(Re)install Spiral Knights
- Done
Windows download client.

7. Are you having other technical problems?

"Yes, and I think I'm hitting a new bug!"
- I wouldn't say it's a bug... More to the point, I see it as a glitch. If need be, I'm happy for this thread to be moved to the corresponding part of the forums.

Using (at times) a very

Using (at times) a very similar Vista 64 laptop (Latitude D630) with a 965 Express Chipset the game should work with no problems using the latest Java version and the latest driver directly from Intel. Using a driver provided by your laptop vendor could be the source of your problem.

You'll likely have to uninstall the current display driver before you can apply the most up to date one from Intel. Vendor drivers for Intel chipsets have this nasty habit of blocking installation of a driver that doesn't have their "stamp of approval."

to note I tried it on a live

to note I tried it on a live disk of ubuntu linux that I have and it worked fine on the same hardware so it's not my video card.

Then that, unfortunately,

Then that, unfortunately, could be Intel graphics drivers being Intel graphics drivers... generally lackluster. This block letters glitch has only shown up on Intel integrated chipsets so far.

Than what do you recommend I

Than what do you recommend I do?
I guess I could try older intel drivers but IIRC the last ones that Toshiba released for this model didn't work either.
And in any case it doesn't fix the constant crashing of the client.

Ok I switched to the last

Ok I switched to the last toshiba drivers and set opengl settings to default and surprise! It worked:) go figure. It might still be crashy but at least I don't have to switch to linux every time.

Edit: still has problems but at least I'm not flying blind
