One thing that I don't like is that "long" in the auction house is 4-24 hours and quite frankly, that's not helpful. Like, what I really want to know in the auction house if whether or not I will wake up soon enough for the final bidding I think either a new time must be added or medium should be extended
Auction house new time
This idea isn't a bad one. However, we will start to see people who would set their alarms to the said time, and then have an all out sniping battle for the item. This would inevitably make the auctions much more chaotic :/
Ok, i didn't say i wanted specific times. I said I wanted either medium to be extended or a new time so that you can at least tell if you will be likely awake. For example, it could be long meaning it is 4-8 hours (so you probably won't wake up in time). Very Long is after that up to 24 hours. And really long could be any time after that
An option of placing your own custom auction time (limit is 72 hours/3 days).
No to exact time, no to hour showing, lets stick to medium short etc.
We dont need auction sniping in here.
If I understand right,he says that there's a huge gap between medium and long times so he just wants an extra differentiation in between there.
The OP never talked about exact times.
+1 . That time left thing is a nuisance, when its short, u have to check it ever 5 mins for an hour... when its medium, u have to check it every hour, when its long, u have to check it every 4 hours.... its stupid. Just give the total hours and mins left in the auction instead of "long"
@Taketh
Giving the exact time would be harder for the server (multiple request of multiple, constantly varied information) and would make the auction a freakin bidding war, since ppl would just sit there and wait for the last sec to bid, causing the last few seconds to have a subtle increase on the selling value and making auctions really hard to win on a slower computer...
@Blue-Phaze
Last minute sniping is going on already, every bid after very short duration (<5 minutes) extends the time 5 minutes. The server holds the exact time so it's not harder because the information constantly varies already. OP was suggesting that medium time span would be increased, I liek dat idea
Yeah, but it would definitely get worse if bidders know the exact time left.
No it wouldnt make any difference to server requests.... how do u think it sorts the items by "time left", it brings back the exact time and then puts it into categories of "long etc". And the extended time when a bid is made every 5 minutes is good enough. Last minute sniping only works if the guy who wants it did not bid high enough in the first place, always.
@Truespiral: "However, we will start to see people who would set their alarms to the said time, and then have an all out sniping battle for the item. This would inevitably make the auctions much more chaotic :/"
No, that's the opposite of true. Currently, the final price of an auction is extremely unpredictable, because sometimes several people bid at the last minute and the price goes up by a factor of 10, and sometimes only one person does and they get it for an extremely low price. That's chaotic. It's so inconvenient and unstable, in fact, that it seems people mostly only look at the "buy now" prices, and don't engage in bidding at all.
If ALL the interested parties were present for the last five minutes of the auction, they could actually respond to each others' bids, and the winner of the auction would be determined by who was willing to pay the most, rather than by who was willing to sit and stare at the auction for hours on end to make sure they got the last bid. That would be extremely fair and organized compared to the current system; not chaotic at all. And yes, that relies on time extensions to prevent sniping, but those already exist. The only change that would be required is to show exact ending times.
Of course, even better would be if we simply had proxy bidding, which has all the same advantages except that it doesn't require anyone to show up at any specific time. It would be awesome. I truly cannot understand the resistance to proxy bidding.
I also think that auction timing could be a little more specific, especially with the appearance of featured auctions, maybe hours and minutes for time would run better than vague slots.
