Shruging

Firstly I play through steam and therefor my username is completely out of wack, u can just call me shruging as is my IGN.

I have made the mistake of choosing the azure guardian set. And I am already 5*, with a lev blade and Valliance. As the azure set doesn't have any high stats, I was wondering should I change the Azure set to my costume armor and make a skolver set my standard armor.

I have 2 sealed swords ATM for my other 2 weapon slots. I was thinking upgrading them into GF and DA. But now I am not so sure. Any suggestions for weapons are welcome too.

Azure is an unremarkable yet

Azure is an unremarkable yet perfectly serviceable piercing defence set. You should probably look to replace it with something else down the line, but not before crafting an elemental and a shadow defence set as you'll see much bigger gains from having theme-appropriate gear than you will from having a slightly nicer piercing set.

If you haven't already, be sure to read through this wiki page http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Damage

I agree with NK. Keep the Azure for your Piercing set (can replace later) & work on a different damage type first. I would get the Wolver line and take it Vog so you can have Elemental/Fire for FSC. Then later you have most of the recipes (2*-4*) for your Skolver set.

How do you like the attack pattern of your Sealed Swords? If you enjoy the heavy two swing swords then yeah go head and work on a DA & GF. If you have been pretty much just using a Calibur from the beginning until 5* then 2 swing swords may be a bit of a shock to your system. If you don't like 2 swing swords then the Brandish line is your friend. It can split into Elemental damage (Glacius, Voltedge, Combuster) or Shadow damage (Acheron).

You are also going to want a Piercing sword (Barbarous Thorn Blade or Final Flourish) to cover all of your damage types. Also you may consider an Elemental sidearm to replace your Valiance (mine still sees service for Beast & Gremlin maps).

largely agree

I agree with Nicoya-Kitty, that you should keep Azure as your piercing armor, get some elemental and shadow armor, and then perhaps get some better piercing armor (Skolver, Justifier, etc.).

I agree with Bluescreenofdeath, that you should get a piercing sword, to complement your elemental and shadow swords. Once you have one sword of each non-normal damage type, Leviathan is not of much use. And an elemental gun (Nova Driver, Storm Driver, Magma Driver, Hail Driver, or Polaris) is especially useful, as guns are good against turrets and all turrets are vulnerable or neutral to elemental damage.

Bluescreenofdeath puts more emphasis on sword speed/feel/pattern than I do. I strongly believe that anyone can get used to any kind of sword feel. I'm not much of a gamer in general, and even I have no problem learning different feels and switching among different feels in battle. It is much more important that you get swords of the correct damage type, than of the "correct" feel.

armor, Calibur

You asked about armor. Chaos has a low damage bonus, but the penalties are probably not worth it. As Bluescreenofdeath suggested, you should probably develop some Wolver-line armor, because you're primarily into swords. You already have piercing armor, so don't get Skolver first. Get Vog Cub first.

The 5-star Caliburs, particularly Leviathan Blade, are fine swords. They are especially good with big charge time reduction against knockback-resistant enemies such as turrets. But in any other situation there are much better swords to be had.

shadow and other alternatives

Thanks Bopp

as u and blue suggested I will consider Vog Cub, however are there any other alternatives for elemental armor and should I consider having almirian armour for shadow. Also I'm sort of a lockdown junky and I know skolver is very good for it as well as its sword damage bonus.

thanks

shadow armor

Well, I don't play much Lockdown, but I think that what I'm about to say applies just as well to PvP as to PvE.

If you're into swords, then Snarbolax armor is awesome shadow armor, because of the damage bonus. Almirian Crusader armor is not nearly as useful. Of course, both of these can be crafted only in the Sanctuary. Getting there requires significant expense, great gear, and high levels of skill. So unless you're an advanced player, you should aim for something else.

Other shadow armor to consider would be Fallen/Valkyrie, Deadshot, and Skelly. If you want shadow armor specifically for the Rabid Snarbolax Shadow Lair, then consider Radiant Silvermail.

@ bopp

@bopp

thanks for the advice

Also in other words...are u suggesting that I should get all 5* versions of the wolver line (Snarbolax, Skolver, Vog cub) I see your reasoning, as they do provide all areas of protection, but I'm just looking for a little variety. What armor do u wear btw/ what are your loadouts, I've read your page on wiki, though u never seem to describe your personal loadout

sworder armor

Yes, if you're into swords then you will eventually want to get a few pieces of Skolver, Vog Cub, and Snarbolax, if not all of them. You can always wear a costume over them. Just be patient; it's supposed to be a long process.

Less experienced players sometimes miss the significance of the Skolver/Snarbolax/Barbarous Thorn Shield damage bonus. You see, a piece of Vog Cub is like an attack speed UV on each of your swords, which is nice. But a piece of Skolver/Snarbolax/Barbarous is like *all six* damage UVs on each of your swords. Even if you use each sword on only its two preferred monster types, this blanket damage bonus is really nice.

my loadouts

As for my loadouts, I'm focused on swords, so my armor/shield/trinkets go:
* piercing: Skolver, Skolver, Barbarous Thorn Shield, two sword speed trinkets
* elemental: Vog Cub, Vog Cub, Grey Owlite Shield, two sword damage trinkets
* shadow: Snarbolax, Snarbolax, Crest of Almire, two sword speed trinkets
In some areas I mix these armors up. For example,
* FSC: Vog Cub, Vog Cub, Crest of Almire, two offensive trinkets of some kind

I use only three weapon slots at a time:
* typical: Barbarous Thorn Blade, Glacius/Combuster/Divine Avenger, Acheron
* fiend: Barbarous Thorn Blade, Glacius/Combuster/Divine Avenger, Shivermist Buster
* FSC: Divine Avenger, Blitz Needle, Shivermist Buster
* RJP: Glacius/Combuster, Gran Faust, Ash of Agni
Occasionally I use other swords and various guns and bombs. I usually try to leave the gun/bomb advice to people who know better, but sometimes I can't keep my big mouth shut.
