I've noticed this a few times, even more so when playing certain times of the day (Night time USA to be more specific). Anyway, I have a 4 bar connection, no movement lag, no attack lag, but some peoples sword swings look like they have 2x normal range. Example would be getting hit by a gran faust 7 squares away after you have backed up or someone with FF using normal swings but clearly missing and yet damage pips fall down from the intended target. Can anyone explain to me why these things happen if I have no lag?

It's the server. What you're seeing is no different than the slight teleport your knight will do in the clockworks. The servers in this game has syncing issues.

latency!
It's the reason why rapiers will hit you from 30 feet away. On their screen they're right next to you, regardless of where they are on your screen. Also the reason why anyone using an alchemer has to try to predict the future to hit anything.
The short answer is the server - what you see on your screen is just a fraction of a second different from what the server might see in terms of positioning for both you and your opponent. Sometimes it can be your connection, and other times it's the players you're up against.
Even with a perfect connection, I'd recommend still giving yourself just a little extra spacing than you think you need to dodge a sword swing. This is especially true for any sword with high range - like a Gran Faust or Divine Avenger. Hope this explains a bit!
