I've been having this doubt lately. When I started playing SK I got a low curse UV on my shield (when I upgraded it to Horned Owlite), but I never really understood how the resists work, at least the ones we get from shields. I've cursed myself with my Gran Faust while using my now Grey Owlite shield and also while using my Proto Shield, and the time the curse lasts is the same. Do shield resists only protect us while the shield is up? Or I'm just missing something and the reists are always active eveen if we don't have the shield up?
Shield resists, how do they work?!

everytime the same question
The shield has it's own life and defenses that only work when you use the shield, they are not applied to your character. Think of it as a separate entity.

also see wiki
Also see the wiki articles "Shield" and "Shieldbearer". They explain shields fairly well, although they could be improved.
Shield UVs don't get stacked with what's on your armor, they are separate. The shield UVs I think affect how "tough" it is or how easily it breaks. So, if you have your shield up and some monster hit you with a curse causing attack the damage it causes to the shield is lessen so the shield "last" a bit longer with the UV than without.
