just to let you know i don't think many monsters do piercing damage, and certainly not the super threatening ones
so this UV is probably not very desirable.

Having different shields or shields with added benefits comes in handy if you have the resources. Tier3 Blighted City/Concrete Jungle floors tend to have lots of spiky bushes and spiky lichens that shoot spikes everywhere. So this UV is probably desirable under the circumstances if you have the resources. If you don't have the resources immediately, one of the more popular shields will have to suffice.

I don't think piercing def is undesirable. This kind of def has its place in the game. For instance, if Gunners want to have PvP tournaments with each other when PvP comes back, then it would be cool to have. Many players also tend to forget they can change gear by going back up to haven and returning to join party or change gear at terminal/recipe floors to equip more specialized, appropriate gear for up coming floors to better cope with hazards at hand.

Yo, I said WHEN PvP comes back dude. Just because we don't see what was in beta or get to see East Side or The Core, it doesn't mean that those things won't be implemented later.
