This is just a suggestion, but i think its a good one.I hope you think it is too, and even if you dont, i will still respect your oppinions on this.
Ok, here goes: Many different materials and gear are based on different creatures and races within the Clockworks.But one of these races appears only in a shield line and a 2* material: the Owlites. "A small feather plucked from an Owlite, said to be a mythical race of great magician birds. " this is the description of the owlite feather.But what are these enigmatic creatures like?I'd like to know, wouldnt you?
My suggestion is this: create a place in this game for these strange and mythical birds, maybe a subtown like emberlight or moorcroft manor? or maybe a special area in haven where we can go and experience this mysterious race for ourselves! And if these owlites are magicians, maybe add some special owlite weapons and armor, the weapons could be like staffs (maybe look similar to the wrench wand?)that cast special magic, or maybe different spell books that specialize in different types, like fire,poison,or curse, that start off with so many spells, and you can fill it up buy mastering new spells that use different materials(kind of like a potion).And as for colliseum possibilities, there could be like a wizard/magician duel/arena where the last team/magician stanbding wins. but just think of the possibilities that the Owlites could bring to the world of Spiral Knights! If you support this idea, then spread it! If not, well, i can understand,but if you like this idea, spread it, and maybe, just maybe, we could get OOO to consider it!!!

They could do like a 'Return/Rise of the Owlites" where maybe it turns out that there were some survivors that created a small population?
If I recall correctly, the developers said that the Kats killed off MOST of the Owlites; not all. I would like to meet them somehow eventually, and I do believe they have a mention in the 5* Philoso Feather too. :)
This should be like one of those new Situation Rooms, where you would have a bunch of these owlites...maybe they could sell owlite recipes?
For the staffs that you mentioned, I agree that they should upgrade starting from the Wrench Wand...the next ones could have attacks like the Wrench Wand, and a charge attack that shoots out a fireball/iceball/curseball/somethingball XD

Basically they would all have the same stats, except with different effects (except for the curse wands, which have less Normal damage than the others).
Also, I'm not sure if they should all have normal damage, or if they should do elemental or shadow damage (split, maybe?) I don't really want yet another brandish, which is what they would be if they were elemental/normal...suggestions?
How about new T1 boss. It would be a spookats boss. Your mission will be to defeat a Spookat King and free the last Owlite magican. The tokens will be maybe "Sprite of magic" or "Spark of magic" (similar to 5* material "Spark of life"). And for tokens you maybe can get a new weapons, helmet and suit (even there is a magic hood and magic cloak).
ADDITION: Owlite shield would have to be one of the boss rewards, it just makes sense.
Owlites would be a nice addition. Though I'd rather OOO keep wrench wands a gremlin thing.

The owlites are extinct. It was revealed in the Lore for candlestick keep.
The kats (before they became spookats), were envyous of the owlites and their amazing magic, so they set to war with the owlites, which in return the Kats won, however, upon learning the magic of the owlites, they could not be trusted with it, and ended up causing the destruction of their own race, and thus became the spookats.
atleast thats the story iirc.
