Minor Health Issue

There are three other, IRL physical factors that it could be, but the one game I have been playing in the last two days is SK...

I'm getting some serious eyestrain and redness, and I'm wondering if it's just SK Graphics, the Settings I have for it ingame, the Display Settings on my Computer, or what.

I DID play for a few hours in the dark yesterday morning, which isn't easy on the eyes, I know. I have set the Graphics Quality in SK to Medium for hardware acceleration reasons. And I like to keep my Computer screen on low - 25%-0 - backlight settings, just for personal preference. And SK is the only game I have spent any significant time playing online for months.

There are a few other Settings concerning Graphics that you can mess with in SK, right? Should I consider changing any of those Defaults? Isn't there a Setting somewhere that messes with the pulse rate of your computer's screen or something? Gotta look this up...

It's probably nothing, but while I have suffered some degree of eyestrain before, I have never seen my eyes get so red!

Well when I turn on Render

Well when I turn on Render Effects it gets kind of hard to see in some areas due to the "sunlight" but I dont think render effects is turned on by defualt.

Medium Graphics Quality

Nothing caught my eye when I was playing on High Quality in the beginning(Fri.) - except the lush beauty of the levels. Now I'm on Medium, and in the darker levels, it looks kind of like there is a reflective fog in the distance. I figure that is due to the light level I had my screen at - 0% then - and the combative nature of an LCD screen with natural light(artificial light is always better for LCD screens, I have noted in the past from my NinDS).

I've turned my screens light level up to 20% and will favor using artificial light. However, lights on during the just day feels wrong...

I personally find that the lower my settings are the easier they are on my eyes

I guess...

That makes sense. Less pixilated info. for your eyes to deal with. I love the Graphics for SK, but I may just have to suffer with LowQ if I'm going to play up to six hours a day...

No-Thanks
Zelda

try to pour some acid on your eyes. itll accelerate the process of making urself blind, which is inevitable if u keep playing in the dark. of course, in either case, im just as serious about this as u are

The low backlight level is

The low backlight level is bad for your eyes, they are straining to follow the movements on-screen due to the lack of contrast this causes. Lowering the graphics settings will have absolutely no effect on your eyes. Set all brightness settings to default, and get some golden eye ointment (Google it) of an equivalent. And take a few days away from your screen.

Yay while i was posting,

Yay while i was posting, no-thanks showed himself up again. Go away and read more books.

Thanks...

...Melisan! I've actually had low backlight levels set for months, even years. But I do so little high acceleration gaming, that it hasn't been a problem for my eyes until SK.

With regard to No-Thanks... I've read one post by him/her and I don't Like already... I'm assuming that isn't anywhere near a new record. I'm betting this person has such a negative aura that they can turn people off simply by setting foot on a continent...

Just gonna jump in on this.

Just gonna jump in on this. For the record I TL;DR'ed this

I usually keep my brightness to the highest setting and I play 90% of the time on high graphics. And I play about 6 hours a day (hardly any breaks @_@), The eye doctor says I'm near-sighted (can't see far away) but its not like I try to read 12pt Times New Roman from 30 feet away >.>

Either way my eyes don't normally get too sore for me, so maybe its just your computer or something. My friend had the same problem as you a month or so back, but I think it cleared up for her. Might want to just tamper with the brightness and graphics, take a day off of it (if possible) and ask a doctor or w/e.

Hope I helped?

85% Solution of "Take a chill pill"...

I'm certainly less worried. I've upped my backlight to 80% and I'm going to try LowQ(for hardware accel. reasons).

I'll keep my ontime to a minimum for a few days, too. A decent nights sleep improved my eyes 30-45% anyway.

Thanks for the help! And my daily dose of sarcasm has been amply satisfied, too...

just out of interest, what is

just out of interest, what is your screen refresh rate set at?

Kleona
Unadjustable on my monitor...

60 htz. But it's an LCD, which I understand to be the exception where screen flicker is concerned.

Thanks for sticking with this, Melisan, but I'm feeling better about this issue, and I think it's time to let this thread died a natural death.

R.I.P "Minor Health Issue"...
