Hello all,

I currently have the following swords and would like to know any guns that would go well paired with them.

Keeping in mind I only use 2 slots.

Swords:
faust
Avenger
Leviathan blade
Blizzbrand
Dark thorn blade
Cold iron carver

I already have a firo driver and giggawatt pulsar.. but since I like my blizzbrand, an elemental gun is not useful.

This is for general use and not just for fsc.

Would getting a heavy pulsar be a good choice?

Thanks for help in advance

well-posed

You posed your question very clearly and completely; thanks for helping us help you.

In general, an elemental gun is the single most useful kind of gun, because it's the single best gun against turrets. So, when you carry your shadow or piercing swords, carry an elemental gun. In FSC, you can even carry an elemental gun with an elemental sword.

But your main question is actually: What gun do I pair with an elemental sword particularly Blizzbrand/Glacius? Probably a piercing gun or a shadow gun. In piercing guns, Callahan is a bit more mobile than Blitz Needle or Plague Needle, and hence has a lower learning curve. In shadow guns, Umbra Driver is kind of ordinary (but good) while Biohazard uses the weird Catalyzer-style mechanics. There is also the possibility that the game developers will change Sentenza to pure shadow; I would hold off until that is settled. Another option is a normal gun. People seem to prefer Valiance over Supernova (your proposal), perhaps because the bullets of the latter are so slow.

In reality, my advice is to stick with an elemental gun, and to use it with a piercing sword or a shadow sword.

Thanks for the advice

If I did have three slots, would usi ng two elemental weapons( blizzbrand and pulsar)) be good paired with a piercing sword?

sure

Yes, that's great. Basically, you want to be carrying two non-normal damage types at a time. So a piercing sword and an elemental gun is good. If you want to carry an elemental sword in a third weapon slot, then that's good too.

A weapon slot upgrade costs 250 energy, but many people use 100 ME, that would otherwise go to waste, to buy these things for resale. So the market price is usually somewhere between 150 and 200 energy, or the equivalent in crowns. You can earn this pretty quickly by farming arenas, RJP, FSC, etc. So, even for F2P players, a third weapon slot is doable and very useful.

Also...

If I got a Callahan (as I also have a Mangus) Would it be good to have to switch between status?

What about a shadow gun? Is it worth getting one evenI have a faust? though

status?

"If I got a Callahan (as I also have a Mangus) Would it be good to have to switch between status?"

Sorry, but I don't understand. You mean, to switch between Glacius' freeze status and Callahan's stun status? That's no problem; the more you lay on the monsters, the better. (However, Vanaduke seems to have some weird bug when he gets stunned. Other people can explain that better.)

"What about a shadow gun? Is it worth getting one evenI have a faust? though"

Well, you already have three comfortable weapon loadouts:
* elemental gun, piercing sword, elemental sword (what you proposed)
* elemental gun, piercing sword, shadow sword (better balanced, but ignores that you love Glacius)
* elemental sword, piercing sword, shadow sword (what I usually use)
I think that you should just upgrade the weapons in these loadouts to 5-star, before acquiring other weapons that aren't necessary. I mean, you already have a shadow sword for use against gremlins and slimes; maybe get a shadow gun sometime in the future, when you get bored and want to try being a gunner.

Sorry about status.

Meant to say stratum but auto corrected to that.

I meant further upgrading my Magnus for a weapon to pick out someone and wolves.

This would be for places like RJP where you get the occasional silkwing

oh, stratum

Okay, stratum. Hmm. Well, as long as you have two non-normal damage types, you don't actually need to switch, ever. The only reason to switch is to use some of the sweet weapons you have lying around.

Sniping silkwings in RJP with Callahan isn't a bad idea. Or you could just use your piercing sword. I vote for piercing sword, because (A) you already have it at 4-star, and (B) piercing swords are probably the most delightfully overpowered weapons in the whole game. But do keep in mind that I'm pretty into swords. A true gunner might say the opposite.

A great use for Callahan is sniping silkwings (or even gremlin menders) hidden in crowds in arenas. However, I don't use my Callahan there either. Instead, I charge up my piercing sword (or shadow sword, for gremlins), and dive in. But that's mainly for thrill.

I think I'd rather take a

I think I'd rather take a shadow and elemental sword to RJP than take a piercing anything. The only thing in RJP that isn't resistant to piercing is the silkwings, and they're honestly not that hard to either outright ignore, or take down with an elemental sword while you're busy killing the lumbers they're healing.

yes, definitely

Yes, RJP is mainly slimes, with some constructs, and only a couple of silkwings. So you certainly want a shadow weapon, followed by an elemental weapon (or maybe Levi/CIV/FoV with big CTR). I'm assuming that you're taking those in; to substitute a piercing weapon for either of these would be crazy.

But if you're going to have a third weapon slot, and you want something to put in it, then I'd recommend Ash of Agni, followed by some other status bomb, followed by a piercing weapon to take out the silkwings.

Hmmm

So a good 3 slot loading would be:

Blizzbrand/Faust/Silent Nightblade
Dark thorn blade
Polaris/Firo driver

If I were to switch out the third slot for a bomb, are there any you would recommend?

Thanks for all the help so far

sounds good

Your proposed loadouts sound good, in all of their variations.

If you want to switch out that gun for a bomb, then you have many options. Shivermist Buster and Voltaic Tempest are good for crowd control; each has some drawbacks. Ash of Agni is awesome for slow damage. Nitronome, Dark Briar Barrage, and Radiant Sun Shards are good for immediate damage. Graviton Vortex and Electron Vortex are weird and fun, especially with a fast-charging Brandish. (There's a whole thread about that combination.)
