Lord Vanaduke
So after spending around 200 energy on revives and what seems like an hour, a couple of guys I partied with and I finally brought down Vanaduke. And...
Nothing. We didn't get any special loot. He just dropped heat and money, and not even a lot. We got even more loot from the levels before.
Not that I'm complaining, it felt so good seeing him finally fall down, and I took like 10 screenshots.
Still, it was kind of a disappointment to beat him and then get nothing spectacular in return. Anyone else here who took him down and felt the same way?
Yeah, I was pretty disappointed with his drop. Even seeing 5x Red Shards would have been ten times more exciting than the 300 crowns and heat he dropped.
@ Shroom, his mask comes off 3 times and it turns into a bullet hell game. I didn't notice if his mask ever comes off completely, but I was too busy trying to not die.
Despite the poor loot drops, I did manage to kill him solo, and without dying at all, so I'm happy about that.
I don't know about you guys, but only dying once with two other people and defeating him, I'm happy that I can say that Lord Vanaduke fell by my party's hands.
Firestorm Citadel proved to be a challenging dungeon and I loved it.

Big bosses like Vanaduke are still new and we are continuing to develop them. In due time you will receive nice rewards specific to him, but at the moment we give you a load of crowns, heat and lots of treasure blocks that contain a chance selection of all the loot in the game. We'll let you know in the announcements section once we add more to bosses.

a chance selection of all the loot in the game.
Wow, you mean there's a chance I can get all five colours of Shards out of those chests?
That's so cool!

For fun, this lore is on the wiki. It also explains why you fight the type of enemies you do in his dungeon, rather than more typical enemies:

Did a run through the citadel today with a friend and managed to beat him. After using several hundred energy each in rezes :P
It was magnificent fun. I couldn't hit the flaming lanterns to save my life (I blame lag, yes, totally not my reflexes, lag <_< ). If my friend wasn't there to hit them I still would have never bested the fiend.
All the loot huh....? Can you guys remove the vials and pots though? They are pretty much a kick in the head after spending couples of hundreds ec and what seem's to be at least half a hour or more and they took up at least half of the box.
Would be nice too if the core is the same, no use for those vials and vita pots and what not to pop up and clutter the place.
Eh, while it does kind of suck, it's also kind of cool. Yesterday or two days ago I found a Miracloth in the core. Today, on my 2nd Vanaduke run, I found a Rocky Core in the core. Those are both pretty valuable, and if I were to sell them, I'm pretty sure I could get more than 700 crowns for them (a rough estimate of the crown cost of the energy needed to enter the core), and yet some times, like my latest one, I'll literally get only a Green Shard and a Scrap Metal. That is definitely not even close to worth it.
That being said, vials and health upgrades do suck in the core.
Telis, Mendellas, Kymroi and I stormed Firestorm Citadel. No real complaints about the dungeon; it was tough but enjoyable.
Kymroi ran out of energy during Vanaduke, but the rest of us pulled through and beat him. I like the physical combat phases much more than the bullet hell phases. Even those would be pretty fun if the hitboxes were more precise and the water balls didn't blow up on contact with bullets.
No decent rewards here either. At least we can say we beat him, though.
so has anyone gotten anything decent from the boss? Does this mean he currently has no loot table?

That lore on the wiki is not entirely accurate at this point. When the rest of the citadel is built I'll make sure to adjust the wiki to coincide with the npcs you will meet within the citadel.
I was a little disappointed that it just seemed like only crowns and heat dropped, but that boss fight was so epic and probably the most fun I had the entire time I've played this game. I hope they someday make more bosses (as well as make more mini bosses to put in normal levels but that's a different topic).
Edit: I have a specific complaint about the dungeon, though. There were a couple times where we beat the enemies and all 4 of us were pretty damaged, and there would be only 1 heart restore thingy, and so we'd all wait around it for like 5 minutes just trying to heal because the heart spawned so slow and there was only one.
Just beat him with a full contingent today, it's first time I've ever saw him and I thought it was pretty awesome, even if I didn't get much from it. Got a nice screenshot for the wiki too.
Full Firebreak set really does help in Firestorm Citadel, fire status does almost nothing against the shield. It's all the more noticeable since I usually wear the Rock Jelly set which causes the fluid inside my eyeballs to boil every time I'm near an open flame from of its -50 fire weakness.
About those slow heart spawns; if I recall correctly, some (if not all) of them are available to use during confrontations with enemies and therefore would be a pretty unfair advantage to players during those battles if the spawn rate was equal to that of the Terminal generators.
They appear to be there to take the edge off, not facilitate post-combat full-heals.
Hey Talbain, sorry for bailing
I wanted to play through, but my parents came in, and just shut my computer off
It sucked so much, especially since I had to waste 80 energy, but at least you guys finished it!
Bummer, man. It was pretty harsh, but we got him. Couldn't have done it without you!
They appear to be there to take the edge off, not facilitate post-combat full-heals.
Doesn't matter if they're only there to take the edge off. People are going to use them to get post-combat heals. May as well just have a restore station before the encounter if you're worried about making encounters too easy by making more stations or making them spawn hearts faster.
I died only 2 or 3 times. Firebreak stuff is a lifesaver.
It was incredibly fun, I don't really care about the loot haha.
Footnote:
When playing while listening to Pandora I have discovered The Most Perfectly Fitting Music to listen to while heading through Firestorm Citadel and/or fighting Lord Vanaduke:

Good stuff starts at about 1:00.
Went to Vanaduke again with a worse party. (1 guy had a proto shield D:)
The new knight spawns made the battle way more challenging, I wasted like 400 energy on ress.

I've been through Vanaduke twice now with two different parties and it's been great fun for me. The bullet phase is a favorite for me, I think it's my love of 2D shooters kicking in.
I managed to solo my way to him with only two deaths (so many Red Rovers D:), and got his mask off, which I assume is his final form. At that point he became pretty ridiculous. I just spent 160 on a rez and was about out of energy, so I tried buying some quickly, but alas, the price had risen since the last time I looked at it. I didn't have 9999 crowns after already buying so much.
I imagine I would have had a little more luck if I had worn some Firebreaker Armor, which I plan to do next time. Red Rovers drop fire canisters like mad, so I've got plenty enough now.
As hard as he is, he's fun to fight. I'm not so sure that everything there should light you on fire, but I still had a good time.
Too bad he doesn't drop anything nice. I remember farming Vog in the last PE to get Vog's Fang. Vanaduke doesn't seem nearly as... farmable. I imagine he'll get some nice loot down the road, though.
