when I log in, I can't use my main character.
After I click on it, it stays at the "Heading into town" message forever.
I got disconnected by the server for the reboot; is that why?
But anyway, I can use any other character fine except this one. It gets stuck loading.
Is there a fix for this, or is it like a giant lag thing?
Would be appreciated if someone could help =/

I'm having the same problem after the latest patch. The game says it is in the process of being updated each time I start it for a few minutes, then gives me a completely black screen after I click on my character.

No character works
When i start up spiral knights everything is fine and dandy but then when I try to use a character it lags a bit like its loading, but then i just get the indefinite heading into town glitch. This happens every time I try to open any character in any slot. Even when i open a new character. When I go back to the title screen to check if my settings are messed up, when i click options the options menu doesnt open and whenever i click anywhere on the screen the options button is clicked. I opened Spiral Knights on a non-steam browser and everything worked fine. The options menu would open and everything. Unfortunately all my good knights are on steam. Really wish an admin was here.

The same problem here. The back button works, though, so I can escape into the login screen. However, then I try to make a new character and then press back, I get this placeholder horror: http://i41.tinypic.com/246kjnq.jpg Everything I click there given an unexpected error, except for the Energy Trade which doesn't open at all. Backing up from that gives a black screen. Oddly enough the character is created, and whatever time I wait for it or an existing character to load is added to their total gameplay time. Weird.
EDIT: Tried it with a brand new, Steam-free account with a non-Steam application and the same glitch persists.

Well I decided to download this game after a while and now I'm stuck with this problem. Never ending heading into town, I even tried to create a new character but it doesn't work either. What's a little bit annoying is that I can't even use the options button on the login screen. It just won't pop up any sort of a window for preferences. And this just ruins my plan of running Spiral Knights in windowed mode, which might (but I'm not very optimistic) solve the problem.
I'm pretty much frustrated by this.
nearly same here:
1st i'm getting the "The game is in the process of being updated. Please try again later in a few minutes" message. If I click few times on the "Logon"-button, I get into Choose Character screen, then I click my only character - and getting the black screen forever...
It's now.
Just after the last update I was also getting the "Heading into town" message forever, but after some restarts of the game the behaviour has changed.
