So I logged in after today's patch, and I was derping around in the Training Hall when I charged up my Glacius out of habit. What came after was pure glorious carnage.

I see that the Brandish line has had an upgrade (brandishes now always get the full number of explosions, the standard brandish gets 3, 3 star brandishes get 3 of their element, 5 star brandishes get 5 explosions of a polaris/supernova size). I'm wondering if anyone knows whether the explosions deal less damage now, or if each explosion deals the same amount it did before?

wow i just heard about this in the game. brandishes have always been my favorite PvE swords by far, but this is just amazing. i guess this was to make them more competitive with the DA charge.

I feel like a Spiral Knights

I feel like a Spiral Knights hipster, because all I can think about in lockdown now is how I used a shockburst before it was cool... or even good.

aemicus, shockburst was

aemicus, shockburst was ALWAYS good in lockdown.

As for the explosions, from a very short bit of delving, i dont think they all will hit, i am generaly only geting two explosion hits per mosnter, dispite several of the explosions hapening on em. Of course ive been fighting t3 spoocats and the way the move makes it hard to get a solid charge hit on em. I expect a real good hit will cap at three explosion hits (but will need further testing).

alright nevermind jsut did an areana, zombies and mechaknights are much easier to get solid hits on, they all dealt damage and they road the explosions

It was a one shot kill on the mechaknights, depth 22, and the voltedge was only lvl 7

Maybe yes damage wise since

Maybe yes damage wise since freeze could prevent monsters from being pushed forward. But it' still unique because it provides some control over mobs.
And in PvP, a freeze wave let's you deal some cheap hits.
Neither is better, but rather fit different purposes.

New change is AWESOME

So... I have a combuster and i was awestruck. Btw most monsters will ride all 5 explosions, except turrets, lumbers, and maybe kats (according to frosty) and shock and freeze versions might hinder this a little. SO new style of gameplay: brandish sniping!! xD

Btw i was doing JK with another combuster person, we were done w/ JK itself in less than a minute

@Dark-Flare

Fond memories a few days ago as I went on a guild run with four Fang of Vogs.
B-bye Jelly king, your dead in less then half a minute!

Interesting about the riding, I've got to see if Voltedge can do that.

@Rangerwill

It's the most beautiful thing you will ever see, especially to those who have been disappointed by the explosions in the past.

@Rangerwill I've had mobs get one-shot incinerated with my new voltedge charge attack.

I actually did brandish-sniping previously, mostly to interrupt zombie fire-breath in FSC. This new change will make that tactic all the more useful.

So today i found that kats DO ride the blasts as long as you get in a clean head-on shot.
@ rangerwill: four FoV?!?!? niiiiiice
@ nicoya: yeah so much stuff can get 1-shotted now XD

The whole point of Glacius is that Strong freeze. If you leave them to thaw (which you SHOULD), it will basically deal another sword hit worth of damage while you focus on other enemies.

Regarding riding the blast wave

Ice based mobs can't be frozen, so they will always ride the blast wave. I've also noticed that there is a chance for the freeze to not go off, or to be broken by following explosions, so it's also possible for normal mobs to take all 5 hits. It's really kind of up to whether you get a freeze off on the first hit or not.

The great thing about the new explosions is it massively increases the effective damage of the combuster, voltedge and acheron. For the glacius the crowd control can rival that of the 2-star or 3-star shivermist. I expect we will see far more Acherons now that the charge has been upgraded. However, combuster wielders will have to be more careful with oilers around (although if you are using a combuster charge in a fire zone I ought to slap you)

Not to mention effective range!
