...You were gonna go on a date at 4 in the morning? And even then, if the auction was long, that means you got 4 hours minimum to burn. Plenty of time for a date, if you don't drag it out. Though that'd make me wonder why you arranged to go out at midnight to begin with...
At the very least I hope you said that you had a more important engagement that had to be dealt with. That'd at least strike an air of intrigue.
