Omega shield vs Owlite

So after seeing people use high health normal defence shields, I started wondering.

With normal damage in most monsters attacks, would the omega shield be better than, say, owlite? Would the higher shield hp be able to take more hits from an elemental attack, as compared to an owlite?

How about omega vs snarby shield? Would the hp advantage allow one to take alpha bites?

These are just a couple of things I've been wondering, and havn't seen posts about.

Number crunching is welcome.

I don't think even the

I don't think even the Ironmight can take a full T3 Alpha Wolver combo, so you're out of luck in that department.

An Omega Shell isn't a horrible shield (the dragon scale shield takes that honour), but it has somewhat limited usefulness. I use a plain normal shield in gremlin levels since gremlins do almost exclusively normal damage, and I also use it for my "misc" set; the set I use for jumping into random parties when I don't know the monster type ahead of time.

Mine happens to be an Ancient Plate, but that's only because it's "free" with vana tokens. A Volcanic Plate would be superior in both uses to either the Ancient or the Omega.

The truth is the extra health on the Omega doesn't really make up for its lack of specialized defences. You're much better off getting yourself a trio of specialized shields, one for shadow, elemental and piercing respectively, than trying to get by with only one pure normal shield.

No, the other shields are

No, the other shields are better for their damage types. Otherwise, nobody would use anything except Omega Shell.

Omega Shell is a generalist shield usable in a variety of situations (as in, all situations), but it's not great at anything. Something I wrote recently:

"...why you would want to equip an Omega Shell at all rather then the most direct alternatives: Ancient Plate and Aegis. I can almost count the sources of pure elemental and shadow damage on one hand, so if you're ... wondering about the value of the Omega Shell, it's perhaps the most all-purpose shield in the game, with no real weakness but also no real strength. The Aegis will fare better against the pure piercing damage of slimes and spikes, and the Ancient Plate Shield will fare better against all sources of pure normal as well as comparably well against everything that deals partial normal (i.e. most melee attacks and some ranged ones). The Omega Shell will fare better than the Aegis against normal, better than the Ancient Plate against pure piercing, and better than either against pure elemental and shadow damage. If you want one of these generalist shields, choose accordingly.

Furthermore, it's presumable that the Omega Shell's high health makes damage reduction UVs more valuable on it than on other shields."

Worth noting is that the Omega Shell is also better than, say, Owlite at taking shadow attacks, etc. If you want a shield that does ok against everything, Omega Shell is a good pick (Aegis and Ancient Plate being the other good picks), but if you can afford to have multiple shields to choose from depending on situation, the value of the Omega Shell is questionable.

Thats what i thought, since owlite is so common.
Kalaina, has anyone tested max defence of any kind on an omega? Better yet, does anyone know the value of a max elemental defence uv compared to an owlite?

I haven't seen any Omega

I haven't seen any Omega Shell testing if there has been any. I'm reasonably confident that the Omega Shell's health actually goes well beyond the visible bar, probably 50% of the way into a second bar.

As far as UVs, Max Elemental is only worth 18.4% of an Owlite on a shield with equivalent health. On the Omega Shell, it would be worth comparably more because of the extra health, but not likely more than 30%.

@Nicoya-Kitty you are

@Nicoya-Kitty you are correct. Ironmight, even with high piercing, can't take a full alpha wolver combo. But since I believe that the wolvers do pure piercing, A royal jelly shield wiggled max piercing might be able to do it.
