I have a brandish, I'm still unsure which line to upgrade to. Opinions people?
Glacius vs Voltedge
Freeze
Pros: immobilizes enemies, does extra damage upon thawing
Cons: enemies can still attack, hinders knockback, hinders shield bumping, hinders kiting, cancels Ash of Agni/Combuster/Magma Driver fire
Shock
Pros: immobilizes enemies and prevents them from attacking, does damage, can spread
Cons: can make enemies less predictable
There is a hidden silver lining to Glacius.
You can essentially gimp enemies by re-freezing them if you can hit them with. I know this tactic works on larger enemies, but it may work with any now that the first explosion is so close to where you strike with the sword. Basically, the tactic is to use the charge so that you just barely hit the enemy and get the first explosion to hit as well.
For Trojans, for instance, you can charge attack facing perpendicular to their back so that your initial hit from your sword barely hits his back. That'll break the freeze, but then the explosions may refreeze the enemy so sometimes you can end up refreezing them until they're dead.
I've done this on Slag Guards for instance and it makes it really really easy.
Personally I prefer Glacius. Especially since I'm a Vortex user (mostly Electron so I get shock from that) so freezing enemies help me to place follow-up Vortices.
Note, for PvP Voltedge is probably better, though the freeze is nice, shock out-right cancels attacks against you and also means you can follow-up with regular strikes while they're spazzing and ignore the cooldown between receiving damage.
shock hardly ever cancels monster attacks, although I'm not sure if Strong shock has a big enough difference to justify the cost in krogmo coins.
For PVP I'd say voltaic capacitor is better in every way. Shock damage is irrelevant; you can just crush them while they're helpless.
for someone who spent a considerable amount of time ranting about the Jelly king name batabii, you should be made aware that there is no voltaic capacitor, there is a voltaic tempest and a static capacitor as well as a lightning and plasma capacitor
@Batabii:
Yeah, mob attacks don't get cancelled very often at all with shock that I've ever noticed, the shock is mainly there to interrupt their movements. In pvp the VT is defintely better for grabbing large groups to shock over the sword, which requires pre-charge and is generally riskier.
@Xanafein:
Lol.
First, +1, Xanafein
Secondly, I'm a tad biased due to owning a Glacius in person, but I honestly do prefer the Glacius over the Voltedge. Here's my reasons:
1. Freeze > Shock: I solo or dual party a lot, so freeze comes in handy, not only with FSC mobs but also Wolvers, Kats, etc. On the other hand, shock just makes them go wonky and, if you are standing near one when it is shocked, it may spread the condition to you.
2. DPS: I'm not sure if this is true, but my friend and I went into FSC using 5* Glacius/Voltedge, both UV Undead Med, both heat level 10, no damage boosting armors or trinkets worn. I was able to kill Slag Walkers faster than he was using regular attacks (about 5-6 attacks for me, 6-7 for him). I'm not sure if this is true for all users or if it was just odd in our case, but I am biased in the matter of DPS
3. It looks cooler (not really a reason but XD)
My bad, I thought I said voltaic tempest. Right now I have the Lightning Capacitor.
My first reaction to this question was "Duh. Get both". One won't refreeze Ice Cubes and one won't agitate Quicksilvers (say, why aren't there more enemies who can become more dangerous when status-ed anyway!?).
I own the Shockburst Brandish and have recently upgraded my Iceburst Brandish to the Blizzbrand (I prefer to get recipes off Basil. It just feels great when you luck out and he has a recipe you genuinely want and can afford). The recent patches mean that NOT getting any of the Brandish upgrades (not counting the Cautery Sword) is a pretty dumb move and should be corrected immediately.
Last time I checked though, Shocked enemies are able to shock you back. And you have to sit through Lockdown and everything really irritating about it to upgrade the Shockburst...
So yeah, go get that blueberry laser popsicle.
I just go Combuster becasue i simply like extra damage and i find frozen mobs not worthy. What's the advantage if I always run in circles while charging again and never get to attack me anyways. I'm making a voltedge for FSC for similar reason, since fire is useless there and shock? again i charge from a distance how would an enemy shock me?
Some people will say I'm stupid because freeze this and that and blah blah blah.
I dont have anything against them, They are right too.
It's all a matter of personal preferences. The only way to see what you'll like is getting both (3* versions at least).
quicksilvers and ice cubes really aren't a big deal. Ice cubes are frozen by default, and charging up quicksilvers can make them take out other enemies.
I shock them on purpose sometimes just to clear the area a bit.
/I shock them on purpose sometimes just to clear the area a bit./
That's a good point, esp. for IMF, but not so much a worry for the sword in there since there's usually always shock pads on the floor.
dont get a combuster, of the status slimes ignited oilers are by far the most annoying

whoever uses combuster charge when oilers creeps is silly.
Yeah, usin' a combuster charge on oilers is daft.
Me, however, using a FoV on oilers is a great idea! :D
/self-troll
I use the charge shot on oilers. In FSC it doesn't make a difference since they are on fire anyways.
Also, if I'm not on FSC I need to get that FSC feel, so ignite it up :-D
<3 my Glacius. Personally, freeze also wins over shock for me, *but* I'm a bomber, so a stationary mob is better than an even more erratic one, and Glacius lets me continue to attack shivered mobs without unfreezing them.
Situations can affect your choice really it's up to personal preference, too. Which do you prefer? Shock or Freeze? Beyond the status effect they're both basically identical (even in appearance).
The one thing to note is that Glacius is acquired through basil, while Voltedge is Krogmo.
