Subj. Any1 ideas? As devs do not reply to community - let's try to guess.
Imho it is going to be for sure as game controls just perfect for Iphone/Ipad.

won't be happening on iOS devices anytime soon I'd guess since they can't run Java
Yeah apple's has a choke hold on the whole platform, they'd have more luck doing an android port. No small feat in itself given the hacked up nature of androids Java environment.
Haha... Apple products.
I'd actually buy the Droid Tablet the second I hear Spiral Knights is on Android.
i much rather get a nexus tab(if it really comes out) if its android.
although i prefer the iPad as there is less to worry about(programming wise) on the ios.
but its not that programming in java will make it unable to release a game on the ios
not quite sure on apples stand now, but i believe only a different compiler is needed.
Apparently, cross compiling from Java to ObjC is one of the main reason Apple change one of its terms and conditions to disallow apps written by languages other then ObjC
This seems to be the compiler used by iOs java programmers, but i have not tested it personally.
Not to be such a naysayer, but even so, you then have to add in all of the iOS hooks. I don't have any personal experience WRITING iOS apps, but I had to do some research when QA testing some for another company, so I learned about some of the nuances. Not that it can't be done, but putting this on an iOS, or any other portable device, isn't something that can't be done too quickly or cheaply from my understanding. Far easier to have built it from the ground up on the device, than make a port/conversion.
Do they even have any experience with apps? Or are all the other titles they developed PC games?
Yes you are right, there are still things that need to be macguvyered in order for it to work
In addition, from my non significant java experience, i rmb there are differences between the desktop java and the mobile java, thus even more jerry rigging there.
I mentioned cross compiling as a possible way, But i believe and agree, that even to port it to android, theres alot of rewriting involved, let alone rewriting for ios.
but not as bad as from the ground up, they probably could keep the game logic portion at the very least.
But it would be nice to play spiral knights on the go =p
Like Dungeon Defenders, on steam, ps3, ios and android.
I think the game would do well on the 3DS. Granted, the game would have to undergo a deal of change and reformatting, but I believe it's an attractive prospect on a brand-new system.
oh i didnt mean to imply they should build this game from the ground up on the iOS, just that developing an app FOR that from the start is obviously much easier than porting the game from another platform. is there a MAC version of this? wonder if that makes it any easier..
anyways, im all for a portable version, even if I probably won't ever play it on that device myself. we have an iPad in my household but I'd probably stick with the laptop.
Oh i see, no matter, minor difference anyway regarding what we meant. =p
According to the devs, Mac, Pc and Linux are all currently supported.
Well Mac, PC, and Linux can all use a proper java interpreter and have vast resources to work with. Reviewing the memory usage of Spiral Knights though, it's clear that without some adjustments you couldn't run it properly on an Android device as is. The 3D code would need to be rewritten as well (most likely) since J3D isn't directly supported under Android. OpenGL however is, and has a specific way of accessing it.
they'd probably have to re-do the client in some ways for interface -- whats good on a PC may not work so well on a handheld
also dumb down the graphics a little
but while they'd have to put some work into it, i think it'd be like opening a WATERFALL of DOLLARS
