I've been running FSC with a Nameless set and a Dark Thorn Shield (started out as a swordy). My defenses are completely useless and I have to avoid fire at all costs because I pretty much die instantly. I almost have enough tokens to get a Blackened Crest, but I'm a little confused about how much it'll help. I know that shield defenses only work when my shield is raised, so my shield will be able to withstand much more damage from zombies before breaking, but I'll still take the same amount of damage when it's broken. But what do the Fire and Shock resistances do? Will it reduce the duration of Fire?
Will raising my shield while I'm on fire cause me to take less damage? Or will it only allow my shield to last longer when hit with "Fire-type" attacks, such as attacks from Firo Knights?
How do status resists on shields work?
So I will still lose like 12 hearts every time I catch on fire?
Yes, shield resistances only apply to the shield itself, they are separated from your character.
Also note that the Blackened Crust does not have fire/shock resistance, only the Crust of Almire does.
And the Owlite shield set: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Grey_Owlite_Shield
@Blackdragoniv I was only referring to the CoA line. The Darkfang Shield also has fire/shock if we want to get pedantic.
I thought it was implied that I'd upgrade it to a Crest of Almire, but thanks :)
I've done FSC and Vanaduke enough times now that I don't die much if at all, but it's a bit disappointing to learn that my survivability won't increase without Fire res UVs unless I want to switch out of gunner armor. I don't currently have much of a problem with my shield breaking except on that room with the Rocket puppy with the laggy teleporting rockets.
Yeah, FSC is kinda biased in favour of swordies atm, giving them solid defences, massive resistances and great offensive capabilities all in one set. Try runnin' it as a bomber with fire:negVH fire! At least when you don't have high fire resistance to fall back on, you very quickly learn to dodge and avoid getting hit at all; it just makes things all the easier when you do go in with fire resistances and better gear :)
I never have problems with my shield breaking on the rocket puppy room, because I never wake the puppy. ;)
God bless those ghost-block triggering shocked zombies...
just to clear it up.
Because sheilds cannot suffer statuses (fire, shock, freeze, etc), when an attack that causes a status is blocked by your sheild, the sheild takes extra damage, so if an attack would deal you 7 damage and catch you on fire, if you bloked it with your sheild, you sheilds health would take 7 damage plus an aditional 5 damage for the fire (or freeze or shock or whatever) for 12 total damage. When a sheild has status resistance, it takes LESS bonus damage from status attacks, so in the above attack a sheild with fire resist will take instead 7 damage +2 for the fire for 9 total.
Shield status resistance does not affect your character uin any way.
The only dìfference it makes is reducing attacks with said satus
An easy Example in FSC is the zombie's breath. Your dark thron must surely break fast against those, but if it had a fire uv...
