So, the status resistance on shields, is it only effective when the shield is engaged or does it add to your overall status resistance
Example: if i had a vog set and a Owlite with UV fire resistance.

See the wiki pages on Shield and Shieldbearer. In short:
A shield protects you only when you are actively using it, but during that time it blocks all damage and status from you. Both damage (normal, piercing, elemental, shadow) and status (fire, freeze, etc.) lower the shield's health. When the health reaches zero, the shield breaks. The damage and status protections on the shield are essentially the shield's armor; they make the shield able to withstand more of that kind of damage/status before breaking.
So the status protections on a shield do not enhance your status protections at all. Neither do the damage protections. They are protections for the shield itself, not for you.
