Love puppies should not be killed, they should be loved

"Processing thoughts of you always, Love Puppy"
From the true love locket.

I for one, don't really think it makes sense that you basically slaughter love puppies to get coins and good trinkets. I mean, really? They heal you and in return you kill them?

THerefore, I think that instead, love puppies should count as allied units like the mecha knight and that instead, you have to PROTECT them from the other monsters in the room. Then, AFTER all hostiles are destroyed, the love puppies gives (ie you don't rip it open like a pinata) coins and stuff before healing everyone instantly and disappearing in a pink mist. This does multiple things.

First. Seems more realistic and makes you feel like you actually deserve whatever trinket you might get

Second. This adds another interesting aspect to the game because you never know if a love puppy is going to spawn in a room. Therefore, once one does appear everyone's objective must shift to getting to the puppy and protecting it from wayward projectiles and such.

and third we don't have to wait around for the love puppy heal us for like 5 minutes if everyone is injured, it just heals us all instantly after the battle.

As long as enemies don't

As long as enemies don't actively hunt down the love puppy, I'll support this.

I think...

Love Pups should do a Reverse Animation of when Gun Pups come out & have a Chance of Dropping a Trinket after it expels a certain amount of Hearts.

Why should the game reward

Why should the game reward you for waiting around Ironskullkid?

Nice idea

I do like the idea of Love Puppies despawning on their own, but making them active allies makes me worry that enemies will kill them before you even have a chance to defend it.

(Like a deconstruction zone, where everything comes pre-spawned, there could be 20 gremlins aggroed on a Love Puppy you never see before it's killed)

"Then, AFTER all hostiles are destroyed"

On some cases this will fail since there are only puppies/no clsoed gates. That's why IRON's idea sounds better.

How about, following

How about, following Diabound's idea somewhat, when they appear they heal us like normal, they'll be able to be damaged by both Monsters and Knights though neither will actively or intentionally attack it (hopefully), and one of their bullets will give the target the loot (including a chance of a Trinket) Knight's normally get after the Love Puppy's alive for a certain amount of time (at which the Love Puppy will make a distinct sound of some sort so Knights know it's coming).
I propose they give their drops though their bullets just in case a Love Puppy spawns like this: http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o255/Wannas1693/lovepuppyFSC2.png

Supported. I always feel bad

Supported.

I always feel bad when I stand there and get full-healed, then have to just kill the poor bugger.

Feel even worse when a trinky *doesn't* drop after I murdered them.

You know I'd kill the love puppy anyway... payback for not dropping a trinket on any of the 10+ encounters that I've had with it.

Love puppys in place of a

Love puppys in place of a respawning turret are supposed to not drop anything. Else we'd farm that room all day.

Maybe not

I'm wondering if it would have respawned as a Love Puppy or Rocket Puppy though

I have a soft spot for allied NPCs and would not mind defending a Love Puppy, then being rewarded for it. I did not have it in me to kill the first one that I saw - I had to let someone else do it ;-;

Weighted Companion Cube

The instant I heard of what a Love Puppy was, I was reminded of Portal, as well as the circumstances where you parted. :(

@Ironskullkid The Weighted Companion Cube in Portal was also made of some kind of metal. Yet it received love from thousands of people who have played Portal. Why can't the Love Puppy receive love as well?
