Check the most recent posts on both of those threads (last page for both), where there's brief discussions on it.

CamStudio

Try CamStudio. I've used both Hypercam and Fraps and I can tell you right now CamStudio is better than both of them. It's also free and I haven't experienced any problems with it whatsoever.

@Penuts

My experience with CamStudio was that CamStudio destroys video quality, AKA all of the compression codecs looked worse than saving pixel art as a .jpg
I'm also slightly biased, seeing as when I downloaded CamStudio, the website was hacked so I got some nice malware packaged with my download. So do make sure that your download comes from CamStudio, NOT CamnStudio

Good lord no, CamStudio is

Good lord no, CamStudio is crap. It's seriously slow and will corrupt videos and/or crash if you record for too long.

Can I bring this back up

Can I bring this back up again?

Been tryin' to find stuff otherthan fraps myself so I can do somethin', but fraps is the single only software that lets me record with more than 10 fps. Tried bandicam and half a dozen others and they all give me 3 fps recording.

No idea why, my laptop is pretty damn powerful, it should be able to record fine, but for some reason, all this software is just destroying my in game fps rates, except fraps...which is a 30sec limit and unhelpful towards my project. Ideas? I really don't feel like paying to try out a fun wee project, especially if it winds up not workin' out better than free fraps anyhow.

Been using BlueBerry

Been using BlueBerry Flashback Express 2 for some time. I have some framerate issues when recording, though I own a ridiculously slow craptop, so if your laptop is as good as you say you shouldn't have much trouble with it.
