Obviously this is not the end all be all. This might even be the worst idea anyone's ever heard of.
But the number of complaints regarding LD and the fact given that people think that striking is how LD should be played...
Kinda makes one curious what the solution necessary really is.
My Take:
The damage counter should stay.
Beside it should be 3 additional counters:
Number of enemies deathmarked by a Recon.
Amount of healing distributed by a Guardian.
Number of Hits Tanked for you and your team by your Guardian Shield
Yesterday, I went into LD and played as the Recon. I noticed that most people did not seem to understand what I was doing. Then I told them "try utilizing the bonus damage a deathmark does."
Guess who came out victorious in the end?
Another time, I went Guardian.
Shield camping at a control point really does add to the defense.
Reasoning as why to add the 3 aforementioned counters:
Recon Deathmarks: A recon is not really the class to go fight against a horde of strikers and try to win the ensuing deathmatch. A Recon is instead the epitome of hit and run.
You have a cloak, CTR on Guns and Bombs, and the ability to deathmark.
My recon tactic involves cloaking, deathmarking everyone, and then either A) Let my teammates kill off the now weakened enemies or B) drop a bomb, or shoot a couple gun shots, then recloak and repeat the deathmark sequence.
In essence, rather than engage in direct combat, I heckle, weaken, and annoy instead of out right killing.
With deathmarking being the key to this, as well as a way to give strikers the necessary boost to create a strong source of damage, why not have it shown on the scoreboard to give other players an idea how the Recon contributed.
Guardian Heal Counter: You're about to die as a striker. You know you lack the shield charge necessary to make it back home safely.
Then you see a guardian pull up his shield.
And so you make a dash for it.
Guardian healing has its niche. It allows an offensive team to constantly push at the enemy from far away with much less casualties, and recons and strikers don't need to run nearly as far and risk dying from lowered health or giving up control of a point cause they have to retreat.
The Guardian's the medic. Why not show how much medicating they did.
Guardian Tank Count:
The Guardian's massive barrier was created to show his main contribution to the team, tanking shots that would overwise harm and kill teammates.
With this logic in mind, why not represent how much usage the guardian actually did regarding this.
This is just my line of thought. It's a simple thought, and probably needs work.
Constructive Criticism is gladly appreciated. Flaming is out of the question.
Most high-level recons try to ambush 1-2 players on a CP without applying a death mark. In larger groups, you might end up using a full death mark as you will be trying to stall the cap.
I think the defends stat accurately depicts how well a guardian or recon did
