If arsenals didn't exist, what gear would you fill your slots with?

Here's the set up: You have 4 weapon slots, and 1 slot each for a shield, helmet and armor. You have to play everything in Spiral Knights with only this gear, although you can have a costume. Also, you can choose to put 1 unique variant on each item of gear. OK, what's it gonna be and why?

4 weapons:

1. Combuster, with charge time reduction: very high. This was "My Baby" even before the rebuff. Now I go through Jelly King levels like Godzilla through downtown Tokyo.

2. Argent Peacemaker, with attack speed increase: very high. It's a very cool and effective weapon with great range and the ability to shoot through mist screens. It's gonna get rebuffed soon so that it's no longer split elemental/pierce but rather strictly elemental with bonus damage against Undead.

3. Dark Briar Barrage, with CTR: VH, of course. This bomb makes even stratum 6 Wolver Dens a walk in the park. It's also a big help in Deconstruction Zones, Danger Rooms, and Arenas.

4. This fourth one is up for grabs, but in the end, I'm a swordsman. Divine Avenger has that great distance attack and powerful strokes, but I've already got an elemental sword, so it'd probably be better to have a shadow sword or a pierce one, and I'm gonna go with pierce: Final Flourish, ASI: VH.

Helmet: Shock, fire, freeze, and other monster and environmental damage is all around us, so I need a good elemental helmet. Vog Cub Cap with Maximum Normal damage defense.

Armor: There's a lot of pierce damage out there, from wolvers to jellies to polyps, to the occasional run in with a thorn bush or spike, so I need some pierce defense. Zombies are fairly easy to dodge, but ghostcats will get you from time to time, and devilites and reavers are the worst, so some shadow defense seems indispensable. I'm going with Radiant Silvermail for in's pierce/shadow defense with Maximum Shadow damage defense.
(Good thing I have a costume, cuz those two are a hideous combination.)

Shield: Grey Owlite for its maximum fire and shock resistance, with Maximum Normal damage defense. This was a tough choice, but ya gotta choose something.

Weapons:
1. Glacius, UV ctr vh.
2. Barbarous Thorn Blade, UV ctr vh.
3. Valiance, UV asi vh.
4. Electron Vortex, UV ctr vh.

Helm: Divine Veil, UV normal max.

Armor: Skolver Coat, UV normal max.

Shield: Grey Owlite Shield.

Don't really have time to say why, it's a pretty good all around set.

Snarbo Coat and skolver cap preferably elemental uvs (shock and fire as secondary options)
Barbarous shield - any uvs will do.

For weapons:
Gran Faust ASI
Divine Avenger ASI
Final Flourish
Any (elemental) gun

I (almost) have that set made and hardly switch it. But I only use 3 slots and remove 1 sword depending on level.

Hrm...

Odd question... What would I choose...

Helm: Snarbolax Cap - Fire Resist Max
Armor: Snarolax Coat - Fire Resist Max

Why? Because I like Snarby. Nuff said

Costume Helm: Heavenly Iron Helm
Costume Armor: Skolver Coat

I just like these two together, no real reason

Shield: Crest of Almire - +Resist Norm Maximum

Once again, I like this because I like it

Weapon1: Final Flourish - ASI VH
Weapon2: Acheron- ASI VH
Weapon3: Polaris - +Dam vs Construct VH
Weapon4: Glacius - CTR VH

This is my default weapon loadout. I really enjoy ASI over spamming charge attacks, especially with my Acheron. The Glacius I do spam my charge with, so it has CTR. Now the Polaris is a weird addition, and I probably will get a lot of hate for it. However, I thoroughly enjoy using, and I despise Constructs more than Undead. Against Undead, I would only use it against Howitzers, who die quickly, and Zombies, who I just need to back off so I can use my Glacius. I HATE Retrodes, I HATE Lumbers, I HATE Scuttlebots, I HATE Mecha-Knights... I don't care what anyone says, it is quite satisfying to flatten these 4 enemies.

You didn't mention them, but I'm including trinkets anyways:
Trinket 1: Elite Trueshot Module
Trinket 2: Penta Heart Trinket

I use guns a lot, and ever since I got +dam med on all my guns, I have loved my guns even more. The Heart Trinket is there because I like having more health than everyone else in my party.

Weapons: Voltedge, Acheron,

Weapons: Voltedge, Acheron, BTB, Polaris. CTR on the swords, ASI on the gun.
Armor: Grey Feather and Radiant Silvermail. I don't care how much better Divine/Skolver is, I refuse to craft a fursuit!
Trinkets: Pair of elite slash modules, since the CTR will be taken care of with UVs.
Shield: My beloved ancient plate, though I'd add a max shadow UV to it for dealing with Kat Bullet Hell and Fiends throwing old macs at me (they're not monitors, look closely).

I feel this is a bit of a

Here's mine:

Helm: Nameless Hat - Max Shock res (costume: Sniped Stranger Hat)
Armor: Nameless Poncho - Max Fire res
Shield: Crest of Almire - Max Normal def
Weapon 1: Blitz Needle - CTR VH
Weapon 2: Umbra Driver - CTR VH / Sentenza - ASI Med (if it becomes pure Shadow)
Weapon 3: Nova Driver: CTR VH
Weapon 4: Glacius: ASI VH
Trinket 1: Elite Trueshot module
Trinket 2: Elite Trueshot module

I like guns and I use Blitz Needle as my primary weapon. With two Elite Trueshot modules, the charge attack 1hko's pretty much everything in the game that isn't resistant to it, even in a party of 4. It can also be fired into a large group of mobs and deal massive damage. There are certain monsters that are resistant to Blitz Needle or otherwise difficult to fight using it, and that's what the rest of the arsenal is for. Nova Driver deals with all Constructs, Kats, and Howlitzers (I use Blitz on Zombies). Umbra Driver deals with Slimes. I'd prefer a Sentenza for greater single target DPS if it became pure Shadow, though. Glacius is a solid backup weapon and is great for charge spamming in arenas.

Full Nameless or Justifier is necessary when you use Blitz Needle as your primary weapon, because it is quite a slow weapon. I prefer Nameless because in my opinion, the only monsters in the game that deal Piercing damage are too easy to bother getting defenses for. Shock is the most crippling status in the game, so getting resistance to it is a high priority. I'd take either Fire or Freeze res on the Poncho. Fire is probably a little more useful overall, since Freeze is generally only an issue in PvP and if you're fighting a large group of high damage monsters. I prefer to use Crest of Almire as my shield, since most of the monsters that hit hard / eat away at your shield deal undead damage (Kats, Devilites, Trojans, Greavers, Howlitzers)

Nameless Set (Shadow

Nameless Set (Shadow UVs)
Nameless is currently the best gunslinger set IMO.

Grey Owlite Shield (Shadow UV)
Good shield with useful status resists

Biohazard, Hail Driver, Callahan (CTR UVs)
Biohazard has a little more utility than Umbra Driver, especially when confronted with legions of enemies with a healer.
Hail Driver is simply my favorite Alchemer gun.
Callahan is more versatile than Blitz Needle and is better for sniping healers while being chased by other enemies and hitting devilites wihout being overcome by their office supplies.

Final Flourish (ASI UV)
Wolvers and Greavers are some of the tougher enemies for gunslingers to deal with and the charge is great for taking out healers.

Stuff

Pretty much what I already use, though with a few differences.

Helm/Armor: Full Vog Cub. ASI is nice to have.

Shield: Crest of Almire. My BTS has served me well enough everywhere, and the sword damage bonus is always nice. Everywhere except against Kats and fiends. Shadow armor be damned, if I run into shock fiends, I'd rather not be hit at all. It'll be handy down in FSC, too. Lack of piercing defense might hurt a bit in RJP, but I can always just run around and spam Combuster charges there.

Weapons:
Barbarous Thorn Blade (+Fiend damage)
>Pretty useful all-around, and the charge is handy against Wolver groups

Combuster (+CTR)
>Fire! Fire! Fire! As a bonus, looks decent against Vog set. Won't deal as much damage as it could in FSC, but it'll still be usable, and I do like setting groups of 10+ jellies all on fire and watching them burn.

Polaris (+Construct damage)
>I find that there aren't that many situations where I need this anymore, but it's still handy for those spots where turrets are protected by spikes.

Umbra Driver (+Gremlin damage)
>For bomber arenas and the occasional Deconstruction Zone. Stay away from the carpet bombing. CTR *might* be a better choice of UV, but I have no idea how fast it charges at max CTR, so I'll just leave that around as a possibility.

Divine Veil Justifier

Divine Veil

Justifier Jacket

Covers all defenses, little bit of gun bonuses. Shock def yay.

Weps:

Only one: Iron slug.

You can use it to damage everything, it can hit dodgers, it can penetrate vana barriers, covers the necessary issues a gun / your loadouts require. No status conflicts.

Definately possible. Might be tougher. No need for all those wep slots.

Skolver Coat: Shadow Maximum
Skolver Cap: Shadow Maximum
Barb Thorn Blade: ASI VH

Gran Faust: ASI VH (Mine is ASI Med but w/e)
Shivermist CTR VH

Crowd control with a side of great justice.

When I started, arsenal

When I started, arsenal chests DIDN'T exist- you needed to change equipment at the haven, terminal, or subtown and hope you had a versatile set.

My go-to still consists of this:

Mad Bomber Mask
Volcanic Demo Suit
Barbarous Thorn Shield
Faust
Magnus
Electron Vortex

That covers everything :D

Though gun puppies might be a little tough if I can't get near them. I wish there were more good shadow weapons.

The all-rounder

I actually made myself an all-rounder set before arsenal stations were implemented. It was this:

Skolver Coat (Increased Freeze Resist: Low, Shock Resist: Medium)
Divine Veil (Increased Curse Resist: Low, Fire Resist: High)
Barbarous Thorn Shield (Increased Normal Defense: Low, Shadow Defense: Low)
Valiance (Increased Damage vs. Slime: Low, Damage vs. Construct: Low)
Leviathan (Charge Time Reduction: Med)

At the time, I went ahead and bought double UV rolls, kinda for kicks, as they weren't a particularly good buy, but that extra high fire and medium shock are worth something. I would basically go back to using this set, most of the time, if Arsenal Stations were removed.

If I could have anything, it would probably be:

Leviathan Blade (CTR: High)
Shivermist Buster (CTR: High)
Valiance or Polaris (not sure which) (ASI: Very High)
Final Flourish (ASI: Very High)

Divine Veil (Increased Shock Resistance: Very High)
Skolver Coat (Increased Fire Resistance: Very High)
Barbarous Thorn Shield (Increased Normal Defense: Very High)

Volcanic Pepperbox: CTR:VH
Electron Vortex: CTR:VH
Shivermist: CTR:VH
Swiftstrike Buckler: Normal:Max!
Snarblicious Helm: Piercing:Max!

Helm: Divine Veil, UV normal max.

(just assume max for all of

(just assume max for all of my UVs since I don't know what the max for each type is)

Armor:
* Skolver Cap - Elemental
* Snarbolax Coat - Fire
Shield:
* Crest of Almire - Elemental
Weapons
* Combuster - CTR
* Acheron - ASI
* Voltaic Tempest - CTR
* Nova Driver - CTR

The armor would be versatile for my typical stomping grounds (RJP, FSC) along with venturing outside of those areas with some T3 runs. I'd take BTS, but it breaks to fast against fiends, so Crest of Almire is probably my best bet with Elemental to help with puppies.

For the weapons, I picked my normal loadout of Combuster, Acheron, and Voltaic Tempest, but added a gun for the 4th slot. I like the alchemer guns, so the Nova Driver gets the last spot since I don't need more fire or shock (or freeze). Yea, I can't beat Vanaduke by myself, but I contribute by watering and slag killing so nothing changes for me. If alpha wolvers were still freaking scary, I'd take my BTB. Fiends are faster with a piercing weapon, but I find my Combuster is serviceable.

hum, well...I might as well

hum, well...I might as well refer to my old go-to set and add some better UVs.

Volcanic Helm, Shadow max
Skolver Coat, Shadow Max
Ironmight Plate Shield, Fire Max

Leviathan, CTR VH
Polaris, ASI VH
Shivermist, CTR VH
Barbarous Thorn Blade, ASI VH

Penta-heart
Elite sword damage.

So, we have okay protection from all damages, plus fire, freeze and stun protection. I don't care about poison and curse, as I'll just run around or hide until it's over.

Leviathan is one of the best all-around swords with no bonuses or weaknesses, making it equally useful everywhere. Polaris is a great mob broom with the added bonus of shock. Shivermist...well, because. BTB makes short work of everything except jellies and constructs.

6 bonus health? thank you!
More sword damage to make up for the non skolver helm and non-BTS shield.

I'll take that rig everywhere, I think.

I'm not gonna tack on trinkets and weapon slots like a hipster. Though I switch my costume helmets around for PVP. Valkyrie helm wouldn't nessecarily be in the armory becuase it's in a costume slot, but my helmet would still look fallen becuase there are no costumes in PVP.
