I doubt if this is a possible option but wouldn't be wonderful if you could play a solo tier run offline?
You wouldn't have to worry about a connection failure and loss all the heat/crowns and mats you gained in a level.
If it were possible for the client to record the changes offline (like how much heat/crowns you got and what materials) and upload them to the server when the user connected back online that would also help people like me who have terrible latency issues since i live so far away from the server (im in australia).

To explain the issue

Java is a terrible platform for games that can easily be hacked or modified

They pulled it off well on this game, but as soon as you don't need to be online people would start modifying and breaking this game as much as they can.

The point of being on a server is to somewhat prevent this.

Of course I am of limited knowledge on this subject, I'm sure someone else can possibly explain the limitations of java and the like.

the game is largely server /

the game is largely server / database driven i imagine, so no, no offline -- with your current player at least.

it might be possible to have an offline mode with a strictly offline playable character, but its probably not realistic. can you play offline with WoW characters? or any other MMO/MMORPG game?

im all for an offline mode myself, but i don't think its realistic. wouldn't mind them using these assets to create an offline single player game with more plot / structure / puzzles. but i think three rings will probably still with making MMOs.

here's an idea

here's an idea, instead of "offline" how about something like local server OR while "offline" the server monitors the user

Thumbs up.

I don't see why this suggestion is starting to get negative posts. Minecraft could be played offline and that's java based too and the only way to get a multiplayer server on minecraft is to go online (obviously). I +1 this post.

@Shadowki

Because there's stuff you can DO in Minecraft while offline. Build stuff and other fecal matter. In SK, all you do is bash stuff and collect things from it. More than half the fun is from the online-ness.

Imagine Haven with no people. Owait, just go to an abandoned Haven. That works. It's pretty boring.

Pretty much, you can do all the neat stuff you want, but it won't matter to you once you get back online. You won't have gained anything from it, and likely might get annoyed that nothing material came out of it.

The only way I can see this work is as a free trial. Play it offline, then join the main fight online. If there was the full game available offline, why would players need to pay OOO for anything? OOO and the players will become disconnected (lol), and the reason for SK's existance will dull until it becomes just an offline game, online having nothing more to offer but socialness, which people don't want since they can do everything they want offline. (i.e. if they chose to play offline, it's because they didn't mind forgoing the benefits of online. So they won't care.)

Also making absolutely all of the game files available to the user makes it easy to hack. Not that I know how, I just know it can be done. SK offline will become an anti-social game where Vana was killed by a tap from a protosword one day.

That was the worst case scenario, but I think having Sk offline defeats the purpose of the game.

That makes no sense, that's like 'pretend to be offline'.

Forum logic:

-if someone reposts someone elses idea---> stop doing that, use search function.
-if someone doesnt make another thread, but bumps the original one ----> stop necroing.

@Asukalan what you want me to do make new thread(which apparently people don't like) or use the search?

@Psychodestroyer also when i read people say "offline" i assume they meant for exploration not haven, what's the point of offline haven, where you get that idea?

let me explain, in place like haven or rescue camp you are on a server as usual but for clockworks and stuff, for the people with bad connection, leg, etc.. there's an option for a type of "offline" where you are connected to server but yet the stuff is running on your computer, like it's all running in the client but still monitored by the server

or here's an idea if you're really against offline how about OOO just set up server in more areas or something -_-

The game is connected to the online sever, you dimwit. No connection, no server, no game.

Also, YES! Make a new thread. Either way, you will get in the same situation, but never, EVER necro. It pushes GOOD threads down and brings up an unpopular/ended thread.

Haven was meant as an example to demonstrate the boring-ness of a game built to be online being played offline.

Also: that's not offline, that's client-side filing. Having all the files on your own computer and connecting it to the server isn't offline. And like I said before, it makes it much easier to hack. (Still don't know how, I just know it does)
