I'm not much of a soccer fan--unless, of course, it's jelly soccer. My thought is this: a PvP soccer game to accompany BN and LD. Team structure as per LD, varied maps with hazards as per LD, with players attempting to shield-bump a ball into the opposing goal. No weapons, but the ball would also be hazardous, themed to the map--i.e., an oiler for fire, quicksilver for elec, or other attacking/status-inflicting critter, such as the wisps--and could be used to off the opposing team as well as score goals. Could also make use of a class-system that would grant special abilities--again, thinking specifically of strikers/guardians/recon, but open to suggestions. Rolling out the new PvP could coincide with the World Cup, culminating in an SK all-star team (top players from the leader board) taking on the devs. Thoughts?

Yeah it needs something special since just regular bumping a small slime wont be pleasant with more than 1 guy per team.
I even think 2 players playing would end up staring at each others with the slime trapped in the middle. It may also get stuck on a corner.
The slime should be a giant colony or something of that size.
The level should be surrounded by energy gates that the monster cannot pass but players do, to avoid getting stuck-> this isnt a good idea for complex maps, but may work if it is jus ta regular soccer field, think of a better alternative.
A different idea is to just make it immortal and you have to attack it so it starts to chase you.
Then it becomes a matter of DPS...
Maybe if you miss the ball your shield should break?
Better yet, give each player a special weapon (like in blast network). This weapon should be a wood stick wich has plenty of knockback on hit.
Rename jelly soccer to jelly hockey.
Sounds easier to make.

Make the matches 6 minutes long. You can have 2 halves of 3 minutes even. To make it more entertaining, you can make the ball increase speed as you bump it more and more. That way, it'll be easier to score points and ensure a higher scoring game. And about the shield thing. Why don't you make it so that you can only hold your shield for about 2 seconds. That way, you can't just hold on your shield forever and hope to score goals. You gotta shield BUMP!!

Like the hockey idea and see it more capable of being incorporated than the soccer idea.
Not that this isn't an awesome idea, I just see it falling apart with only shield bumping.
Also, for class systems.
Goalie/Defender: Faster Swing(or stronger knockback), Shield "aura" for ball not bypassing, will bump ball AWAY from goalie
Forward/Striker: Think this could be played as per the LD version. High speed and sword bonus
"Stealer"/Recon : Pop outta nowhere and take that ball (possibly mark?)
Also arena could just have walls, the ball can be a bit bouncy.
Oh, and not being able to kill other players falls out of the theme of the Krogmo Arena. So I'd say allow players to either heavily stun each other or give a short revival time. Equipment is replaced with swords designed and armor adjustments made specifically for the game. One sword is similar to troika, the other sword is similar to a proto sword. Armor adjustments can be stolen from LD.
The goals are energy walls similar to the ones of LD. When the ball is put in the goal it is shot out of a cannon towards the middle of the field (a red radius appears where it will land, randomize the location to be within a set zone). Score is kept. Either first to 10 goals or most goals at the end of 5 mins wins.
The ball can be moved by whacking it with your stick or via shield bump (goalie only option)
The ball also deals minute damage to players struck by it (aka ball is moving fast, it whacks you, you get hurt) but will stop if it runs into a player.
3-6 man teams, dropping out mid-game is disabled.

@skold-the-drac if you can't drop out AFK is the other option so they just won't play or they'll close spiral knights and re-open the game.
I agree that enabling weapons would allow for faster shots/some variety in knockback--would be interesting to explore how shots with different weapons would impact the physics of the ball, as opposed to the effects of shield-bumping. Also, I agree that the maps would have to be (relatively) similar to a regular soccer field, though I envisioned them with some obstacles/spikes/shock traps/etc. to spice things up. The energy gates would work, but I personally think it would be more fun to give players an incentive to get away from the ball if it was trapped for too long--some kind of attack that would inflict a status themed to the map, perhaps like vana's mask phase?
@mighty: thanks! I love the idea of the ball picking up momentum--would give players a big incentive to coordinate their shots rather than just randomly striking the ball.
@skold: like all the thoughts, but never said you couldn't kill the other team--just pictured killing them with the ball. Was thinking that in addition to having a regular attack that it would periodically unleash, you could also use the map to your advantage (bouncing the quicksilver ball across a shock trap to strike the other team + inflict shock, lighting an oiler ball on fire, etc.)
Really whether it's specifically styled on soccer or hockey wouldn't make a great deal of difference, maybe open the name to something more generic--Krogmo Ball? Keep the ideas coming.
I think armor should be disabled, but players would bring one (just one) sword to the match as their primary way of moving the ball (sorry gunners/bombers). So for an example a troika line sword is slow to swing, but it would have awesome power and a hunting blade does the opposite. Charges should be allowed. Also the ball could randomly change throughout the match getting different characteristics. Heres some suggestions:
-Heavy ball: would stun any players it hits.
-Beach ball: would fly into the air after being hit with a sword. Also, getting a goal with it would count as 2 or 3.
-Sumo: hard to move.
-Bomb: would explode after 10 seconds, stunning all players nearby, then a new ball would come.
-Rubber ball: would bounce all over the place when hit.
-gremlin mender: would try to flee from the players.
Hm... I don't like this.
This isn't a new suggestion, I've seen about three identical threads here and I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be much skill or strategy involved; players would just run to the ball and seconds after the start of any match there would be only an agglomeration of players on the ball trying to bump it to anywhere that is not their own goal.

Never seen it suggested, myself. If you've ever actually tried playing soccer with a critter in the clockworks (jelly or otherwise), I think you'd find that it takes a lot of skill and timing to send it going exactly where you want without getting yourself, or someone else, whacked. And to that the suggestions people have made and I think it would take skill and strategy both to be an effective player. Played a lot of 'random team' on LD? There's a big difference between organized and unorganized teams--same here.

I forgot to mention in my last post that lag would mess it up, since passing the ball to a teammate or stealing it for counter attacks involve a lot of precise timing.
why not Leviathan Tennis? It would play like your suggestion, except you use the knockback of the Leviathan's charge attack instead of shield bumping.

Two problems I see with tennis--though I do like the idea of using charge attacks/knockback instead of shield-bumping. First, the charge time would have to be extremely short to respond to the position of the ball as the game is played. I suppose there could be spawning power-ups similar to BN--charge time, movement speed, etc.--to try to avoid the usual complaints about gear balance as per t3 LD (so the game doesn't turn into who has the best CTR UVs). Second, tennis would imply a cap on play at 2-on-2--though you could, perhaps, still work out a scheme to include larger teams. I think building from the team structure of hockey or soccer is still the way to go.
I think weapons should be included, so quick pass & shoot plays can be executed.
Players should be able to lunge for the ball: we'd need weapons for that. The weapons should be standardized
(equipped like Lockdown)
Just make it so players can't die (stunned, like a tackle, just not killed). It'd need a lot of fine balancing but soccer/football is always lots of fun.
