Stupid players

I guess it's an inevitable encounter, running into some really, really stupid players. But I mean, is it a coincidence to run into morons who each do the same dumb thing? Example, I have run into AT LEAST 5 players who have used fire based weapons in fire based levels. More specifically, against the oil slimes that ignite when hit with fire and begin to attack and move faster. To name a few of these dimwits, Reicht and Roaxnion.

What's the lesson to be learned here? Be the party leader more from now on to kick these knuckleheads.

Silliness abounds

Pugging is an excellent source of heat though.

Also it's a better challenge than soloing or running with friends. I'm way more likely to die in a T2 pug than a regular T3 run.

I learned a new (useless)

I learned a new (useless) term now. Pick-Up-Group

I don't really have much problem with random grouping. Everyone I work with seems to be at least as good as I am (which isn't great but still). And its a good way to add random people to my friends list so I can have more people to drop in on and rui-, I mean participate in their Jelly King run or whatever I'm interested in. Even without speaking, I tend to get a feel for whatever that group wants, or they'll figure out what I'm doing quickly enough (why is he setting those freeze bombs everywhere before we press on that button >:/)

Also there's a tinnnnny chance that all those players you met only had fire weapons. I started out with a Searing Edge entering Tier 2 (sure I also had a cryotech gun but that's me). Even when I didn't go in a stratum that was fire, sometimes the game would pull up a fire stage anyway, and then what do I do? At least, I had a decent other weapon.

Heh, the very first

Heh, the very first opportunity to get in a group I ended up with someone who just wandered around not doing anything while the rest of the group sat on one of the waiting for him to join us on the switch and then went afk. Other than that I have only played solo or with people I know.

Too many people want to spend

Too many people want to spend too much time talking when you PUG. The ones that don't talk too much are incompetent.

I'll just do two runs instead of one solo in the exact same amount of time, thanks.

Wow, almost all of my group

Wow, almost all of my group games have been great. I mean, a lot of the time guys die all over the place and generally suck, but then I just have more opportunities to revive them and take their heat.

Even if everyone is terrible, they still manage to break up groups and pull aggro, so the result is that we go much faster than I would solo.

One downside is that we have to avoid challenge areas, but I usually skip those when I'm by myself anyway, just because they take too long solo.

I'd rather play with someone

I'd rather play with someone who was bad at the game than a person who is such a classless douchebag that he would call out bad players by name on a public forum. Also, talking about a game like this in terms of pugs is ridiculous. This isn't a hardcore game. You are not a super elite snowflake.

This isn't a competitive or a remotely skilled game, so try to have a bit of fun. If players are really new, teach them and help them out, that's what I always do. You get better runs that way, and you get the help someone out at the same time.

Mine have gone well

I suppose this is party due to my plan to learn the game (and thusly run all of my Tier 1 runs) solo, then brach out into grouping later, that Ive had a very positive expirence running groups, occasionally Ill see the wrong element attacks, or the dreaded monster charged-hit into me, but those have become less rare, and usually a friendly pointer suffices, but I personally like the farm fuzzies I get when with the rest of the team down I manage to finish off the Flame Lash Arena pit were in, or fend off those last few enemies in a area and go grass-cuttin to get the health to revive. I've found it great helping new players learn to be bolder and how to fight difficult odds, even if its them dead watching the brave would be teacher battle. Though the loss of a poor Love Puppy when the whole team was hurting due to a overzealous swordsman was mildly annoying, I find the pluses far out weigh the negatives.

(Though curiously enoungh by only ever two pieces of equipment drop have been solo, earlier being a 4 Star Virulomask of which Im unsure what to do with.)

+1 to Tumble. If you're

+1 to Tumble.

If you're serious about the game, don't "pug", right? If you use the word "pug" regularly, you're probably too good for the "pugs" anyway. Magnus has the right idea.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

That being said, I never "pug" unless Im trying to get somewhere fast by myself everything else guild-mates can do and more efficiently thats what they are there for anyways and if they're not available I'll just solo.

P.S. Stop asking me for invites, I dont want to.

Hey, why don't we TELL PEOPLE things?

Did anyone ever take the time to say "Hey fire attacks make these guys way more dangerous don't use them?" Because I know the first time I encountered quicksilvers I wasn't certain if it was my shock attacks that were causing hyper mode on them or if it was just happening by itself. (It was my attacks.) And really, having someone say "Shock is bad here don't use it" would have been enough for me. 10 seconds. That's all it takes.

I mean really, don't be all passive-aggressive about it. Just tell people when things they are doing bother you. Politely, of course, but I think that ship has sailed here.

I had a semi-constructed

I had a semi-constructed group go PUG by chance when going for the jelly king. We invited a guildie who oddly enough brought two guns. He then invited a friend who never spoke (and I'm convinced, never read anything either) while alive and rushed through everything, getting hit as fast as was possible.

I have yet to come across anyone stupid. Of course, give this game a few more months and I'm sure we'll have problems with this. Especially if you take energy away and it becomes completely(Already is if you play right) free to play.

"This isn't a competitive or

"This isn't a competitive or a remotely skilled game, so try to have a bit of fun."

I can describe to you about a thousand situations where not being selective about who you play with ends up not fun. The game does require being fairly good later on, especially if you're doing the citadel.

You're not a better person for playing with every tom dick and harry, and I'm not a worse person for only playing with my friends. Not wanting to play with people who make themselves out to be a costly, time-wasting liability doesn't make me an elitist douche, it makes me someone who wants to enjoy the time I spend playing the game.

Moreover, 90% of players will not learn from their mistakes quickly enough to avoid ruining the experience of playing with them if you advise them mid-dungeon. I also don't play the game to babysit people who somehow made it to T3 without ever learning that oilers catch on fire and become a pain in the butt, or people who don't know you can break ice off of others.

If you're a social person and don't care at all about how well people play and just genuinely want to make friends and cannot have fun without it, great. Pug your brains out. If you enjoy the game more via success and unhindered gameplay experiences, play with people you know or solo.

Two different demographics. Neither are right, neither are wrong. Elitism is booting someone for not being in the best gear ever, not choosing not to group with someone who melees bomb blocks.

Differences are surfacing between us

It's fine if you don't want to pug and it's not that desire (or lack thereof) that makes someone a jerkface. What does it is talking down to or about others.

Before WoW's LFD system was implemented I made tons of friends via pugs (way back in BC). Back in YPP I also made a lot of hearties jobbing. Eventually, in both games, I mostly ran premades though. There are advantages to both and both can be both fun or stale depending on what you're looking for in the game and how you go about accomplishing that.

@Hazel: No one was saying

@Hazel: No one was saying that you have to pug or group up with random players - they are just saying, if you choose to pug, it is absolutely unnecessary to flame them for being 'bad'. Rather, helping them or leaving the group are your best options, not to go around yelling about how 'stupid' they are.

"If you enjoy the game more via success and unhindered gameplay experiences": A group of random players can be just as successful, if not more, than an organized group of friends/guildies. But I'm probably just skewing your words and intent.

""If you enjoy the game more via success and unhindered gameplay experiences": A group of random players can be just as successful, if not more, than an organized group of friends/guildies. But I'm probably just skewing your words and intent."

Actually, by definition, assuming your guild is of appropriately skilled players and has some organizational tools at its disposal, especially if they use skype/ventrilo/whatever during dungeons, no pug group can conceivably achieve what they can, let alone aspire to to better.

However, I'm not saying pug groups aren't capable of success. I'm just saying it's a risk, and if the risk bites you, it bites hard. When it pays off, it doesn't pay off much bigger than not taking it. So ultimately, pug or no pug is basically a gameplay choice. For Recipe Runs, I prefer to solo. When going to D18 or D28, I prefer to group. I cannot imagine T3 pugs going well nearly as often as T2 pugs, though. Citadel aside, things in T3 still hit like trains.

Although, I haven't bothered pugging Jelly runs since they nerfed it to the ground, so it's possible that they payoff rate from Royal Jelly pugging is more skewed in favor of success.

Moreover, I wasn't in favor of calling baddies baddies when they're being baddies. If I'm in non-serious dungeon groups, I'll just work around the poor player and not say anything. If it's a point where everyone's performance really matters(danger rooms, later arenas, etc.) I'll offer suggestions. If the suggestions are met with unfavorable response(people defending how bad they are and resorting to insults in response, etc.), I'll just boot the dead weight.

Pugs

I imagine T3 pugs are more likely to succeed than T2 pugs actually. Most people who have tried T3 know it's not a place to be taken lightly.

With the possible exception of danger rooms and arenas, if you're good enough you can basically carry a pug on your own. It's not like the enemies gain any new abilities or anything, you just need to do what you always do: kill stuff without getting hit.

^-^ Randomly walked down with

^-^ Randomly walked down with a Tier 1 player through stratums 1 and 2 of the gate that has the jelly king (I forgot which, sue me). Naturally, he would've been turned away when I decided to continue to Tier 2, but for fun, I said accept the invite if you want anyway. And he did.

He still died a bit, but he handled himself extremely well. Later on, a friend and a guildmate logged on and even paid the energy fees for the new guy. He did talk a bit but it was actually fun sometimes to discuss things in between. Not like we stood around for five minutes doing nothing. Anyway, we worked our way down to the jelly king. And on his first day of play since beta, he beat the jelly king with us.

I imagine without him there, maybe we would've been done about 10 minutes faster, but that's not so much to be regretful about. And honestly, it was a little nice going through a place with something more to say than "keep your curse/poison vials for JK"
