I was wondering whether or not to get the full snarbolax set becuase of the damge increase but then i realised that the Vog Set has attack speed increase whitch would be very helpful indeed since the 2 weapons I use the most are the Gran Faust and the DA.
But I can't seem to drag myself away from the damage increse so I thought maybe I should get the Snarb Cap and the Vog Coat. So what do you guys think??? Thanks
Is this a good idea???
Personally, I see no reason to split between Vog AND Skolver for your first set. Generally it means you'll only block elemental attacks in and piecing attacks a mediocre fashion until you upgrade another piece. I'd say get full Vog first if you plan to do lots of Firestorm Citadel, and full Skolver first if you plan to do lots of Royal Jelly Palace. In general I would say that damage bonus is more effective than ASI, but I suppose that is more of a personal preference.
(Also, Snarbolax was the first 5* armor I obtained, barring Ancient Plate from Vanaduke runs. I guess it wasn't that practical, cheaper than buying a 5* recipe though.)
Boingboingsplat's advice about Vog Cub in FSC is certainly reasonable. I don't see much reason to get any 5-star armor for RJP; Ash Tail is plenty good enough, and so is Vog Cub.
Boingboingsplat, did you buy Snarbolax unbound from someone, or did you do a Shadow Lair in non-5-star armor? Which Shadow Lair in which armor, if I may ask? (Such information can affect how I advise people in the future.)
Yeah, Skolver is certainly not necessary for RJP. I guess I'd just recommend getting Vog FIRST, rather than a Vog and Skolver/Snarbolax mix since usually the defenses from just one piece of armor aren't useful. (The bonuses however, are. If you want to get both ASI and Attack bonus I would recommend getting the Sword attack or ASI trinkets, though that is arguably more costly.)
Yes, I did the Shadow Gloaming Wildwoods. I was wearing Virulisk Mask/Suit, since I had decided that the poison resist from it would be more useful than sword damage bonus from Ash Tail set. I believe I also brought Divine Avenger, Barbarous Thorn Blade, Polaris, and Barbarous Thorn Shield.
Of course, it helps that I went with my guild and we coordinated with voice chat. It was the first time any of us had gone through Shadow Gloaming Wildwoods, I believe we used 3-4 revives between all of us. I would not recommend it in anything but a highly organized party, or with players experienced with the levels before hand.
So your weapons were pretty optimal, but your armor was not: no shadow, no offensive bonus (no slimes in SGWW), and not a huge amount of normal protection. Were the other members of your party in similar gear? Even with voice chat and knowing each other, I'd say that your party did quite well. Thanks for the report.
There is also the Skolver set to consider. It's the piercing version of Snarbolax. And I hope you know that Snarbolax can be crafted only in the Shadow Lairs, and hence is not a practical choice for your first set of armor.
My advice to new-ish players is always to get a somewhat general-purpose armor set, and then to get additional pieces, to create more specialized sets. For a sworder, this means getting Ash Tail Cap and Coat, then upgrading one to Vog Cub, and then the other to Skolver. Later, you get the other piece of Vog Cub and the other piece of Skolver. Later still you get Snarbolax Cap and Coat.
Both attack speed increase and damage bonus are great. All else being equal, you'd rather have damage bonus than speed increase, because the latter can be achieved with one UV on your weapons, while the former amounts to somewhere between two and six UVs (depending on how you use your swords).
