What gear should I get?

Hey -
I started playing a few days ago and have managed to rack up a Wolver Coat and ~5000 crowns, but am a little lost to what gear I should get for the best gear. I'd like a build that can:
-Solo well, and is a
-Mix between ranged and melee
If anyone would be kind enough towards what would be the best build I could get for the 2* tier, I would greatly appreciate it!

Okay. Should I buy a 2* Sword first, like Calibur?
Also, is the Vog set really the best? I heard that the piercing resistance was sort of useless.

Vog Cub loses the Piercing
Vog Cub loses the Piercing defense for Elemental defense; and Elemental damage is everywhere. It also has valuable Fire resistance.
As for the sword, disregard what I said for now. The Avenger and Silversix series are great for the current "endgame" (Firestorm Citadel), but what weapons you choose are up to you and your playstyle.

Okay. Are there any outstanding swords and guns for tier 2, or are they all pretty balanced?
And also, would Wolver still be a good choice before it gets elemental resists?

The thing is, unless you have
The thing is, unless you have excess resources to spare, it's best to stick to one line of armor until you get to a comfortable point (i.e. 4* gear, rich enough with those kingly toppers and energy.)
As for notable Tier 2 equipment; well...
Check this post for a general idea on the swords.
As of the current game, I'd recommend to continue with the Wolver line, going onto the Vog Cub set by the end.
For a sword, you may benefit most from the Avenger series.
