A shady looking gremlin who appears at random, rarely, in clockworks tunnels levels. He sells weapons, armor, shields etc for obscene crown prices.

You are only given limited information about the item before buying:

1: Item type. Sword, gun, shield, whatever. You aren't shown what the actual weapon is though.
2: Star level.
3: Number of UVs. Always at least one, up to three. You aren't shown what the UVs are.

e.g. a Shivermist with CTR VH would be listed as "5* Bomb with one UV", but so would a BAB with Fiend Low.

Each player approaching the dealer will get a separately randomized inventory consisting of only 2-3 items, and a given player may only buy one item per day from the dealer regardless of how many items are listed in the inventory or how many times the player comes across him.

Items purchased come unbound.

nice idea

haha this seems like a fun thing to spend a day doing.

t1=0*-1* items

t2=2*-3* items

t3=4*-5* items

is that list correct?

or is it

t1=0*-1*(no costumes)

t2=2*-3*

t3=4*,5*,and 0* costumes

I think it would be fun to try out, though prepare for some complaints about how it adds in more gambling into the game.

Just saying, and basil already gives the Recipes at random sooo....

meh, i still like it

As pawn said, a fantastic idea.

May I suggest that he tell you what you're buying though? I'd rather not buy a bomb that I already have... or maybe just tell you if you already have one or not? And make him rare. And Snide would be a great name for it.

Sounds cool. +1
Would there be any restrictions over which weapons are available or would it be possible to get any item in the game?

@Fehzor:

I think the specific item is part of the gamble. While this may be useful for newer players, players with a much wider arsenal of items may be very cautious in buying anything. Could be a problem.

@OP: A very neat idea (that I wouldn't use); the best part is that it's a rare find *and* a gamble, increasing incentive to actually purchase an item from Snide. So...this is Severage-approved. :D

PS: I like "Snide", sounds like "Cyanide", which is probably just as deadly.

Snide is in

Could I chime in an idea? Snide gets a brother who won't tell you the star of the item, won't sell it if you have it, but will only give a general weapon and if it even has UV's. His prices are cheaper... but you run the risk of getting 3* items at 5* status. Also rare to find and independent of snide. For a fee, he'll give you a hint to the weapon type/UV's.

i thought of this when

identify cation of what you buying you pay him extra money and he tells you what your buying.

or

it tells you the series it is in (this one is nicer to most people who don't have money to waste)

I really don't like the name Snide.
Following the theme of Punch and Vise might be an idea for names I'd be more comfortable with, though I don't have any suggestions at this time.

But

But why would you buy something that was 4*-5* if you could get a 2*-3* UV'd weapon at cheaper prices if what you are looking for are UVs? The basic idea isn't bad, but this detail makes me think it can't work as a "progression" type merchant like Basil. It would also have to be balanced enough so the Gremlins at Bazaar aren't left useless or this new feature is underpowered enough to still prefer to buy 100CE and ragecraft.

I won't +1 or -1 this because I am on the fence because of all this... so, I will look how this goes on.

Meh, fair enough

Hmm... Since s/he'd probably only be sought by endgame level players, I'd say make them T3 only?

If selling weapons and armor seems a bit far of a stretch for a random NPC encounter in the clockworks, what about things like better vitapods or temporary dungeon equipment that offers an advantage? Might be redundant with the merchants in Moorcroft and Emberlight, though.
