i chose pawn because it deceptively denotes a lack of importance. In chess it is both the least valuable piece, and "the soul of chess". I like the irony that it's lack of value makes it in many ways the strongest piece. Here the lowly pawn sits bereft of power, yet all other minor and major pieces must cowardly retreat from it.

Also it's 1 syllable, and i think single syllable names work best on MMO's/RPGs/etc.
