Shield Resistances, how do they work?
So lets say a shield has negative to your sleep resistance. Does that mean your sleep resistance is penalized at all times, or only when the shield is deployed and defending you? Also, does it matter? If you block a hit that would have caused you sleep it nullifies it correct? or can you gain status ailments through shield (I'm assuming not because lumbers never apply stun and I have taken 500+ hits from them while shielded)?
Shield resistances and bonuses apply to the player at all times.
Shield defenses only apply to shield health, which is only active when blocking.
Shield Stats only apply when blocking, when not blocked they are not being used and are not in effect.
I am curious about whether or not there is any hard cap on resistances, eg is it worthwhile to have a vog set with medium fire resistances on both pieces. Any forthcoming information is greatly appreciated. =D
The one guess I'd make is that the shield's status resistance affects how much damage the shield itself takes when it absorbs a status effect of that type. So, if you're standing in a poison cloud that otherwise does no damage, your shield's poison resistance will determine how long it will last before it breaks.
Possibly it also modifies how much damage is blocked when you are attempting to block a status effect that is currently on you, but I'm not sure.
