My bro is now primarily a swordsman-gunner hybrid. He wants some shadow protection for FSC in conjunction with his Vog Cub Coat, and both gunner sets with shadow defense have a damage bonus. He doesn't like Shadowsun because it's simply not much of a buff for guns, and is considering Deadshot instead. However, he has multiple dmg vs undead UVs and is planning on picking up a gun dmg trinket as well - is Deadshot any good, or would he be better off with any other helm?
Is the Deadshot Set good?

He was thinking about Deadshot + Vog Cub + gun modules, but he's not sure if the dmg buff on one piece of Deadshot is enough to justify using it instead of another gunner helm.
The issue is this: Deadshot has shadow protection, which is useful, but only a medium dmg bonus against undeads. The ASI gunner sets (Nameless and Justifier) provide a useful gun ASI, but have negative status resistances and irrelevant protection.
For FSC, he uses Nova Driver (undead high) and Plague Needle (ASI med), both of which kill rather quickly, so he's not sure whether he wants a helm just for the undead bonus.

worried about which depths?
If he's worried about Depths 24-28, then Deadshot is great. If he's already mastered those levels, and is worried about Depth 28, then it depends on what his job is there. If his job is to kill slags, then Deadshot is great. If his job is to kill Vanaduke, then Shadowsun is better. Keep in mind that there is almost no shadow damage on Depth 28. Nameless' elemental protection is nice, and its ASI is good on Depths 24-27. But the ASI is not useful if the party, like many parties, uses freezing and charge attacks on Depth 28. Justifier is less appropriate than Nameless.

The other question is : how high are his undead UV ? Because if they are above medium, with a gun trinket and a deadshot part, that's above the cap, so you would have lost stats. Or even 2 gun damage trinkets + deadshot means any further undead UV is wasted.
So with the nova driver undead high, you'll have at least a low wasted if you go one gun trinket + deadshot.
I would prefer shadowsun too because shadow protection is not that relevant and shadowsun damage bonus is universal.
On a side-note Bopp, how useful is curse protection in UFSC ? With no curse protection, I did it and curse was not that much of a trouble already (45 sec duration, 2 weapons and 3 vials cursed). If the wrong weapon get cursed, just walk again in a zombie breath to change the curse target (yeah, you can do that without suffering any damage).

To answer Fradow's question about curse in SFSC: I don't really know. I've done SFSC only once. I got cursed at most once, but this may be more about dodging than about armor. Thanks for that tip about getting re-cursed; I'd never heard it before.

Consider Divine Veil for FSC
Consider Divine Veil for FSC if you intend to kill Trojans effectively. The lack of Normal defense can really hurt, though. Consider Crown of the Fallen if you don't prioritize killing Trojans. I find that Fiend damage tends to be more important than Undead in FSC. The Undead is nice, but there's really not much of a hurry on the zombie kills when it comes to survival.
FSC is about the Fire resist, so unless you can get Fire UVs you're going to want to take armor that has natural Fire resist, and Deadshot doesn't.
And yes, Shadowsun is not a great idea, especially for FSC where the Pierce defense is worthless.
First, I think that Shadowsun used to be more meaningful, before the offensive trinkets (gun damage, etc.) were released.
Now, about Deadshot. I got it long ago as my shadow armor (before Snarbolax armor existed). The undead bonus and shadow protection are nice in FSC, although I find fire protection more valuable than shadow protection, especially now that zombies have been made so slow. So I never wear it anymore; I wear Vog Cub. However, I wore one piece of Deadshot when I did the Shadow FSC, because the curse protection is useful.
No gunner armor offers fire protection, so the calculations may be different for your friend. Maybe he should wear Vog Cub and gun trinkets? Or one piece of Vog Cub and one piece of Deadshot, and gun trinkets?
