Item Selling Suggestion--Player-run Vending

I think that a good way to optimize the item buying/selling process would be to offer the option for players to open their own temporary shop. Players could enter what items they want to sell from their inventories (materials, recipes, equipment, whatever) as well as the price they are asking. After setting their shop, other players would be able to open that shop window and buy whatever they like.

To limit possible spamming or cluttering, this could also be limited to a certain area of the map. Maybe that starting area of Haven that i've never gone back to (unless there's something there that I missed the first time through)?

I've seen a number of other games do this, and I feel that it would work very well for SK. What do you guys think?

2nd the motion

I was thinking of this as well. It would be a good way to get rid of overstocked items and players can try and find good prices. If there is a possible way, maybe even sell some items for CE.

Thank you adrian. After venturing into the MapleStory "Free Market" and trying to get something, I can totally relate to failed player shops. An auction house just sounds so much more inviting, simple, and navigable.

Yes, that is a word.

Not necessarily

Not necessarily, let's say I open a shop.

I have set prices to my equipment and materials. Someone looks at my stuff and opens a shop right next to me for a very small drop on prices. I can then offer different prices, combo pack prices, or even basic item trade without worrying about fees. If that other person goes AFK, and people start going to me, he will be missing out and not realizing it. Maybe make it so you have to confirm the purchases. Like an actual market. It would also be a good way to make friends and possible future investors.

The Auction house would only be a battle of prices, waiting to steal away an item for an extra crown at the last minute. This would only lead to complaints and economic destruction. High level equipment and materials for far above the actual value. 10x Blue shards for 5000cr, no thanks. Yes, people could just post things and explore the clockworks. Yet, they could also just clutter around the auction house buying and selling, never going back in the clockworks. The players shops would let people sell the extra mats, make a few extra crowns, finally buy the recipes they need, and continue playing.

Now, I haven't played an MMO that has player shops, but I think it would allow SK players to be more involved with the game.

agree with adrian

auction house is vastly vastly better then player shops, but the worst is when there are both.

Take a look at the Auction

Take a look at the Auction House in FFXI. That one is the best AH I've ever seen in a MMO.

Auction house +1

I really want an auction house in SK

I really don't have time to keep looking in players shop, much less to to keep spamming in the chat

@Betavash

I have played a game with player Shops. LunaOnline is one that has it.

I personally liked it. In Luna, it had a message above there head what they were selling. So, you would know what was in the shop before you clicked on them. The system outright eliminated trade spam. There was virtually none when I played. I set up shop a couple times, and left it going when I went to school and everything had sold, which was nice. I didn't have to stand around spamming "This item for sale for this much moneiz!" Over and Over again.

You could also set it up to where people couldn't buy the stuff and could see it, and have like your own auction for it type deal through /tell or have you. There was another game I played that you could open a menu, type what you wanted to sell, and for how much and it would put it in a list. Where people could search for it. Compare it to other players asking prices, and make your decision that way. This spanned across the entire game, no matter where you were you could open it up and search for, in terms of spiral knights. Sword-Normal Damage, then a list with swords that do normal damage would appear and you could choose the one you wanted and find the lowest costing one. Message the player, meet up, exchange, done. I liked that system too.

I would love to see it implemented into Spiral Knights.

Great ideas!

I like that idea, Geno. It encourages more communication/haggling than simply "I'll pay more than that guy!" as well as clear up most if not all of the clutter in trade chat. It also would allow players to post offers and continue playing the game, as Betavash was talking about with the player shops.

Really, I like all these ideas. I just want to see trading become easier than sitting in the bazaar and waiting for someone to say they want to buy something I have, or shouting about how I'm selling random low-level materials (all I've got right now; i'm only tier 2). I liked the addition of the trade chat. It shows that the developers are considering the problems with the game and taking steps to solve them, starting with what I see as an easy-to-implement temporary fix while they begin working on a more permanent solution.

And anything that keeps SK players involved with the game makes them money. Which is a good thing.

Agreed. It shows their

Agreed. It shows their willingness to improve things with in the games based on Feed Back from the community. I wish I could explain the other trading system better, I re-read it just now and thought to myself "That is sort of confusing" So lets try that again...

In another game I played, which I NOW remember the name to, Shin Megami Tensei Imagine Online, Say you were in, once again, in terms of Spiral Knights, and sense there is just the one tow I will use the Guild Hall. Say you are chilling in the Guild Hall, chatting with the guild and someone says "Yeah I just got the Avenger for 2kCE, its boss yo!" So your curious if you could get that sword, but possibly cheaper. You go to Options, then click on Trade. With in this Trade Menu, you have a couple of Options, there is a Pull Down tab which list the type of Items (Armour, Hand Gun, Helmet, Recipe, Materials, Bombs, Shields, Trinkets, etc.) And possibly next to that Pull Down Tab is possibly which Star Level you would like to search for. So you would Choose, Swords- 5 Star, and a List of all the 5 Star Swords being sold by players appears. They have a tiny description saying what they what it to say "1.8kCE OBO" or "PST to Negotiate," Something like that. There is also a search bar, where you could search for Avenger, and a list of all the Avengers would appear.

I feel that is a better explanation than the way I described it before ^.^
