Go for it
Then go for it. FSC isn't as hard once you have run it a few times and know the subtle in's and out's of the various floors.
Good friends can help you easily glide over the initial difficulty level, especially ones that know what they are doing.

On-topic: If you feel the defenceis necessary for you, get the matching armour. The asi/damage can be compensated with trinkets.

I did skolver coat with vog
I did skolver coat with vog hat. I then got a mining hat and use it as a costume piece. I think it looks pretty good.
Anyways, if you mix sets as your first 5* you get a damage bonus, a speed bonus, 2x normal def, pierce def, elemental def, freeze resist, and fire resist. That is a well rounded set for RJP and IMF and good enough for FSC due to the fire resistance.
It sorta sucks for fiend stages due to the lack of shadow protection, but once you can run FSC reliably you should be able to make money a bit faster and then build something like Crown/Armor of the Fallen and get normal, shadow, fire, poison defenses. (or you can get vog if you do a shadow lair run, but you'll still probably need shadow protection for there anyways)
Flip a coin between Skolver and Vog.
Snarby is best reserved for your second or third 5* Wolver Set due to how difficult Shadow Lairs are.
Most people suggest Vog for Firestorm Citadel, but once you have done FSC enough, armor doesn't really matter. I have several friends who still waltz through FSC in full Skolver. People emphasize Fire resist in FSC, but I run around in Snarby or Nameless there, so it isn't life or death (its just life or near-death).
