Is getting the swiftstrike buckler worth it?

I was thinking about getting the Swiftstrike... It's speed bonus is great, but the status for that thing just plain suck to me. I want to use it so I can make my Faust much faster, since I already have a Medium speed bonus with my Vog Cub Coat, but If I'm in some desperate need of defending in tier 3, this shield would just break on one impact.

So is it recommended or not? With speed comes a consequence of poor defence.

From my experience with speed

From my experience with speed ups, speed doesn't do much. The big pause after your swings isn't affected by this speed up, or isn't affected much. Get a real shield so you don't die all the time in T3.

i recommend it. for heavy

i recommend it. for heavy swords swiftstrike buckler makes a world of difference (if you're worth your salt that is). since you can cancel your animation of your first hit by shielding up, swiftstrike just makes that noticeably faster. great for hit and run crowd controls. your 2nd hit will also benefit from the shorter cool down time, letting u have more maneuverability in danger zones.

in t1-2 it is great with heavy swords like faust and avenger. faust especially benefits from the increased attack speed since it has a chance to curse on hit. in t3 the shield is generally too weak, will get popped in 2 or even 1 hit. but if you're ninja, and can out maneuver your enemies in t3 (made even easier by the shield), it is viable as well.

Don't triple swing and you

Don't triple swing and you will see quite an improvement, but for tier 3 you will need a real shield to soak up projectiles and quick blows.

your shield breaking every time makes it not worth it.

You usually have to keep your shield up at all times in t3 anyway so the swiftstrike is no good there sadly.

triple swing benefits from

triple swing benefits from the shield too, but medium speed swords are already usable, where as this shield really makes heavy sword shine.

Also another big thing to mention, sword users go Vog Cub. It's just the best and it has speed bonuses on it too. Get a real shield.

Swiftstrike Buckler is worth

Swiftstrike Buckler is worth it for T2. Arguably you can use it in the first stratum of T3. I've actually made it all the way through T3 with a Swiftstrike buckler equipped without energy reviving more than twice, both solo and with a friend. It's never intentional, sometimes I just forget to equip a real shield.

Anyway, Vog Cub is relatively expensive and further down the progression path than a Swiftstrike. In addition to that, if you ever want to heat different armor sets in T2 after (or before) you have Vog Cub then you'll want a Swiftstrike.

its helps a lot on slow heavy

its helps a lot on slow heavy swords however a better shield is recommended, I'd go against doing the full combo with a heavy sword just do a single hit and block so u can cancel the animation

Not bad in any way possible.

Only get the shield if you

Only get the shield if you are doing 2-hit combos, then block, then switch out your gun and shoot, then repeat the process.

Uhm. I use Swiftstrike in t3, no problem.

Using Gran Faust, Argent Peacemaker and Divine Avenger as weapon. Canceling atk ani right after u hit swing with Gran Faust/Divine Avenger means u can move isntantly or swing it again, much faster than a dubble swing.

I guess if you are bad at the game you might need a shield to soak dmg otherwise if u can play it remotely good Swiftstrike Buckler is sufficient.

I guess if you can't dodge attacks due to lag, you're bad at the game and need to soak damage.

swiftstrike is definitely

swiftstrike is definitely worth it for t2. t3 i suggest using a real shield, one that won't pop immediately and leave you completely unprotected, especially if you're soloing.
but i really REALLY love using my swiftstrike on jelly king runs thats for sure

Swiftstrike Buckler is not a

Swiftstrike Buckler is not a worthwhile investment for T3. It breaks so easily that you might as well not have a shield at all.

If you want speed that badly, get Vog for melee or Nameless Poncho for guns.

And in response to the mindset that a "good" player doesn't need to shield, that's just wrong.

A good player uses their shield gratuitously.

It doesn't matter whether you "dodge" or guard, only whether or not you avoid damage. Please don't try to confuse people with stupidity.

its a trade off of taking

its a trade off of taking more damage vs dealing more damage. swiftstrike buckler users should try to deal as much damage as possible while be careful enough to get get hits. the shield helps with that.

Don't forget farming.

I cut my RJP time tremendously just by trading my BB (still looking for TT recipe after so long...) for a SSB. It's a massive improvement for non-trinket users and makes Brandish chargespam noticeably safer.

Depends

If you can't or don't want to spend the time or money for an ASI UV, then you can probably make do with it. For T3, if you're able to make use of shields well without having them take too much damage, go for it. Shields aren't only to block damage, you can also bump enemies away so they can't hit you up close, so the thing with the shield being too weak for T3... well, more or less depends on skill and whether or not you lag. If you do plan on using it for T3, it would be a good investment to start shield bumping and figuring out how to deal with attacks in T3 that are simpler to deal with by just shielding.

EDIT: oh wow... this is an insane necro @.@l| from a year ago....

When choosing classes

Well the swiftstrike is very good when you're a striker since you generally don't need defense, followed up by Recon. They both technically don't need you to block any enemies attack like Guardian class. But if you are tending to make a defensive shield, use a twisted targe or a drake scale (in T2) or the Grey owl shield.

As a Swifty User...

It depends. Here is the choice:

1. If you can dodge/don't need a shield/are not a bomber, get the Swifty. The ASI High is definitely noticeable - as in, you swing about 1 second faster for a normal 3-swing sword.

2. If you can't dodge/need a defensive shield/are a bomber/suffer from lag (ie. live in Asia or Australasia), do not get it as it is useless, either because it has no effect on your weapons or has no defensive capacity.

3. If you are a long-term sword user, just get the Twisted Targe and upgrade it, if only for Piercing defence, more Normal defence, and more health; or, just for T3 clearance.
