I just did the UGWW today using 3 weapon slots.

My general view is that for this shadpw lair you need:
Elemental sword (blizzbrand/avenger in my case)
Piercing sword (DTB or FF)
and a gun, most likely to ve pulsar line to take down the howlitzers.

I am now keen to get an idea of what weapon loadouts are good for other SL so am asking you guys for help.
Thanks in advance

see "Shadow Lair" wiki article

The wiki article "Shadow Lair" tells you about SGWW, SRJP, and SFSC. Nothing on SIMF yet.

I agree with your loadout for SGWW, although other people on your party should have something like Shivermist Buster instead of the gun.

GWW, bring shadow and pierce def, and pierce/elemental weapon. Polarish will also be useful. Shield, shadow. (Though you already know this)

RJP, bring pierce/freeze defence (read; skolver). Weapons, shadow damage and get at least one guy with Ash of Agni (it's plenty possible without it, but my god does it help). Polaris or a shadow gun will do. Shield, BTS or other piercing.

IMF, bring elemental, shock and fire defence (grey feather is nice, though vog works well enough). Weapons, elemental/shadow. Shield, Grey Owlite, though Crest of Almire will do if you're like me and don't use an elemental shield. Just expect it to break a lot.

FSC, bring shadow & fire defence (snarb/vog hybrid or full snarb with fire UVs). Weapons, elemental and something to deal with trojans/slag guards (BTB/DBB/FoV charge) and some kind of pistol you can use to kite Vana; he's immune to freeze. Shield, Crest of Almire most definitely. Why do I neglect to mention curse? Well, it's not gonna happen all that often, and you can just use a different weapon until it wears off. Makes me regret making a snarb coat curse max just for it. :|

Unknown passage, bring piercing defence, FF/BTB (to dash through the slowing field) and GF/DA/5* Brandish line. Some people like using Nitronome to keep things away from them. As for why pure piercing def? I find it's always the damn jellies sniping me with spines. I just about never get hit by the gremlins or zombies.

Shiver will help with crowd control to varying degrees for every lair. Polaris is also pretty useful for all of them.

Guess that covers them all. Mind you, this is entirely from a swordsman's perspective.

For Unknown I would focus on

For Unknown I would focus on Normal protection because that is the most common damage type in there. Pierce is fine as long as you pick something like Skolver which also has Normal protection.
