Why did SK create guilds? (And why are guildhalls so lame?)

The Wiki site says that "Guilds are associations of people with the same goal or objectives, or sometimes they're just a group of friends. In Spiral Knights, joining a guild gives you access to a special guildhall where all members can go to meet."

What specific goals or objectives would a guild have? to give one another jumps to boss levels, and a group to fight the boss with? more socializing?

And about the only good thing about guild halls is that you can have a private group chat. It would be so cool if we could build our own guild halls or each player could have their own tree fort of sorts, built with architectural parts you could buy in game or with items that you EARNED in game (that would be very motivating. Like you could build your own version of a Crimson Castle buy earning redeemable coins to buy architecture complete with color options and size and design options.) I mean, look how much money people are willing to spend on costumes. Having a private castle we could build up would be great (wouldn't it?).

Do other games like this one have something like guilds? What do guilds do in those games?

It just seems like there is so much room for improvement in this area . . .

One of the survey questions did mention something about whether players would be interested in customizable guild halls. So it may become a possibility! ;)

I guess another reason for guilds, is to connect with similar minded fellows. Like, do you want to be part of a group who is very serious in their runs? Or a group you can joke around with?

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. For bringing this to general.

It is my interpretation that the guild hall is meant to be a waste of space and a kind of filler for the idea that guilds are worth something. They also exist to offer the false hope that they will be worth something eventually in the minds of players until the next ce promotion, or at least that's what I see them to be based on the actions of OOO.

Why did SK create guilds? Because players want them.

Warning: The following satement sounds weird, I dont know what I drank. I should also stop reading psychology books.
The average person needs social interactions. And joining a group is easier than randomly throw friend requests, plus gives you the feeling of beinf part of something.

Guilds are pretty much a standard feature of MMOs. They give players an opportunity to meet like-minded players to socialize and go on adventures together with, and belong to part of a group. Guilds make it easier to find a place in the community. Most people don't really bother talking to people they randomly queued with to do a dungeon, and even when they do add each other as friends, they often don't communicate except to queue for another dungeon.

I agree that the guild system in Spiral Knights needs more work. Many other games have guild perks, customizable emblems/banners, and Guild v Guild activities. The Guild PvP doesn't seem to be very popular right now, and I'd like to see improvements to that. There's also not too much to actually do with your guild right now, but that's more of an issue with the lack of new accessible endgame content than anything else.

Money. Creating a guild costs

Money. Creating a guild costs people $1-2, and increases player retention.

The guild

There have been many other forums about adding upgrades to the guildhall. Most of them say that upgrades should cost CE. I think someone should actually send an Email to the Spiral Knight makers and find out whats going on!

I think instead of redeemable

I think instead of redeemable coins it might be more interesting to have us use the materials we collect in the clockworks to build new things. Example:

To build a Treehouse players will need:
1 Thwack Hammer
50 Driftwood
10 Bronze Bolts
10 Scrap Iron
10 Redwood

We should be able to

We should be able to slaughter our clan mates in guildhall and then they have to rev for 50 CE(or wait 2 minutes). Some people in my guild are crazy and they will do it *ahemahemnjthugahem*

Why do guilds exist?

They exist to help people with the same goal or objectives find, meet, and communicate with each other. You don't really need a guild, but it helps everyone out, so why not?
