Hello! :D
I'm pretty new into the game and i am new to this forum.. :D
But i have played for a while so i "alredy" have 3* Armor :D
Well i need help with what items i am going to have and ya i am an allrounder and i mostly play PvE :P

My current stuff:
1. Dukser Cap/Coat
2. Horned Owlite Shield - and just bought a Bristing buckler for some tokens i had leftover...
3. Blazebrand
4. Twisted Snarble Barb (i use instead of Auto gun)
5. An Auto gun that i don't use..

The stuff i want to have:
1. Vog Cub Cap/Coat or Snarbolax
2. Grey Owlite and BarBarous Thorn shield
3. Combuster
4. BarBarous Thorn Blade
And i think i am going to have 4 weps in 4-5* so i also want
5. Blitz Needle
6. Polaris

So my questions is...
1. Is this stuff good or should i change anything in my current and the 5* Armor? :) (Cuz i have no Shadow dmg)
2. What is the fastest way to earn cash in T2 and T3? (I have an Elevator pass)
3. Which armor is best? Vog Cub or Snarbolax in 5* (mostly PvE playing)
Edit: 4. If i'm only going to use 2 Weps which do you recommend in 5*? Combuster, Bar.. Thorn Blade, Blitz Needle, Polaris? If i am going to have 1 Sword and 1 gun... You can also recommend other weps! :D
That was all from me and i hope u have some awesome answers! ;D
Peace N Love// Alex :D

1. It's pretty good. I personally dont think you need shadow damage since you could easily use the BTB for gremlins and the combuster for slimes. You should also consider Skolver since it gives you sword damage increase without the need to go to the Shadow Liars to get the Snarbolax.
2. The fastest way timewise is to do Royal Jelly runs.
3. There is no best armor. When there is elemental damage Vog is better. When there is shadow damage Snarbolax is better.

The Skolver

Ooo i totaly forgot the Skolver armor!!
Thx alot for reminding me! :D So i should go for the Vog if i go allround and the Skolver if i'm only using swords?? :P¨

Both Vog and Skolver only

Both Vog and Skolver only apply their bonuses to swords

Good startup set :)

Dusker Set: Upgrade to Vog/Skolver (whichever you prefer, Vog makes FSC easier, Skolver makes Jelly/Lockdown easier) if you want to. You can try for Snarbolax after Vog/Skolver, because you'll need a decent 5* set to be able to tackle Shadow Lairs and get the Snarby Set.

Owlite: Keep going to the 5*, its a great shield.

Bristling Buckler: Go to 5* as well, great shield for Jelly runs in T2.

Blazebrand: Keep this going to a Combuster as well. Not my favorite (I don't have one), but it's a great elemental brandish. I personally use a Voltedge, but that's a matter of preference, plus the Krogmo Coins needed for the recipes bored my brains out >.>

Twisted Snarble Barb (BTB): Useful later, not really necessary early on. I'd leave this one for last when it comes to what you upgrade, but let some of the experts chime in first :x

Get a shadow weapon. Seems for now you're used to the 3-strike swords, so I'd recommend an Acheron over a Gran Faust. The argument over which is better has been beaten to death, but it pretty much boils down to the following: Acheron is better against single targets, Gran Faust is better against large groups (due to the wide swing).

Blitz Needle: Perfect for Vanaduke. Probably won't see much action for it outside of Vanaduke runs and Fiend strata (to take out Trojans) so I'd leave this until you're getting closer to doing FSC.

Polaris: Good all-purpose sidearm, parties tend to hate it since it knocks enemies around all over the place. Just make sure you get really good with it, can take the flaming, or just use it when soloing (where it really shines).

1. Overall, great setup. Get a shadow weapon at some point.
2. Tier 2: Jelly runs or a gate with about 3+ arenas, preferably 2 in the second stratum. Tier 3: FSC or a gate with arenas as in the Tier 2 case.
3. Comes down to personal preference and the situation. No such thing as a "best" armor set. Vog gives ASI, which means you hit faster and can shield faster between attacks. Snarbolax/Skolver gives SDI, which means you hit at normal speed, but hit hard. Vog gives elemental/fire protection which is great for FSC, Snarbolax gives neither (I use it in FSC without any problems, same with Skolver users, it just requires more care).

Long post is long... Randomness is weird, we have the same name O.o

If you have no real need for

If you have no real need for bonuses, go divine veil and skolver coat to cover every dangerous status and damage. Also consider that if you go full vog, you can get damage trinkets and vice versa, skolver with asi trinks.

I agree more or less with

I agree more or less with everything which has been said so far.

On BTB : the line is very good, but the problem is both T2 boss strata are resistant to piercing, so it's only going to be of use in uneven strata. I would upgrade it to 4* after everything else, and leave it to 4* for a while. Even in T3, the damage difference between the 4* and 5* versions is not a lot, and the 5* version doesn't had anything special (well, 2 or so spikes on the charge, but that's not significant, since the charge is not the reason to use that sword).

On Blitz Needle line : as a swordsman, it's only really useful in FSC. For most fiends, meaning greavers and devilites, not trojans, a piercing sword is easier to use by far.

You should really get a shadow sword to farm RJP tho, because that's the fastest way to make crowns in T2, as far as I know.

Some words i don't get?

So those words u don't write the whole thing of i don't know what they mean.... Srry
So what does FSC, ASI, SDI?? Plzz explain those :P
And well i'm going to leave T2 soon but do i need the Thorn shield in like T3,4,5?
And is it really that important to have an Shadow dmg weapon?? Or well when i get more cash i can buy 1 but is the Brandish (Shadow 1) good?? :P
So the last thing i need to upgrade is my Snarble/thorn blade? :P
And well what is best to upgrade first to 4* my Armor/Shield well i alredy have my Brandish in 4*... So what's next? :P

Fsc: Firestorm citadel Asi:

Fsc: Firestorm citadel
Asi: attack speed increase
Sdi: sword damage increase, although I've never heard anyone say it.

There should be a wiki page on abbreviations.

There is no T4-5. Only up to 3. Yes, all damage are present in T3. No, you are not leaving T2 anytime soon. Trust me. Obtain a shadow weapon, and a good sidearm for when you feel like you don't want to get close.

@Fradow

The 5* BTB adds a hologram snarbolax. Besides being wicked awesome, it also does damage on top of the spikes (according to the wiki, and seems to in my general use, but I've never thoroughly checked).

As for it's usefulness, I find it is most useful in non-boss runs and T1. Other than that I almost never carry it since I'll normally carry my Combuster and Acheron.

@abbreviations

SDI isn't a common abbreviation, but it stands for Sword Damage Increase.
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/List_of_commonly_used_abbreviations

As for needing weapons, just buy/upgrade whatever helps the most. If you have problems with gremlins/jellies, then a shadow weapon would be really useful. If you are having a lot of problems with beasts/fiends, then pierce would be more important and should be upgraded first.

If you have 2 types of special swords, then you'll be weak against no enemies. Since FSC has tons of Undead, you should get your elemental weapon going first (if FSC is your goal), and then upgrade either shadow or pierce depending on which monsters give you the biggest problem. Eventually you'll get all 3 and it won't be an issue any more.

I also use my BTS (barbarous thorn shield) almost everywhere. When you get better at the game you can get away with a non-optimal shield in various levels. However, I'll still switch out my BTS for a Crest of Almire if I play a fiend stage, since they brake my shield so often.

I've tested the bite. It has a delayed animation, meaning you can release the charge, turn another direction, and the bite will go that way. I've never seen damage on those times.

The things i am planning to get now :D

Now i have decided a bit of what to go on with all ur advices so here is 2 5* armor and i'm going to choose 1 of them so plz tell me which 1 u think is the best of them and if i can change anything in them? :P
And well i have mostly problems with jellys, robots and the big tree things....
I can pretty easy kill gremlins and so on with my Snarble so that ain't a problem and i really like the attack on it :D

Armor set 1:
1. Skolver Cap/Coat and Snarbolax when i get to the Shadow Lair
2. BTS and Grey Owlite (Depending on what i am playing)
3. Combuster
4. Acheron
5. BTB
6. Polaris (And a blitz needle when i'm going FSC)

Armor set 2:
1. Vog Cub Cap/Coat and Snarbolax when i get to Shadow Lair
2. BTS and Grey Owlite (Depending on what i am playing)
3. Combuster
4. Gran Faust
5. BTB
6. Polaris (Same with Blitz here...)

So that was the 2 sets i thought of but what is best in FSC?? Element or Piercing defens?? :P
And which shield was best overall in T3 Grey Owlite or BTS?
So plz tell me what you think of those sets and can i change anything? :D
And if u have time plz write it like thos 1-6 list's that i've done so i can read/understand it easier :D
And Nordlead this Crest of Almire?? Can i survive almost everywhere with the CoA and BTS?? :D
P.S I like Swords better than guns that's why i go 3 Swords and 1 gun :P

Elemental is much better for

Elemental is much better for FSC. There's no piercing damage there, except for like 2 wolvers in the depth right before Vanaduke, yet there's plenty of elemental. Also note that FSC has a lot of Fire damage, which Vog gives you near-maximum resistance to (Skolver has none), which is why many people prefer it over Skolver/Snarby for FSC.

Again, there is no "Best" anything. It's situational. If you're in a depth with a lot of constructs (elemental damage), Owlite is superior. If your in a depth with beasts/jellies (piercing), BTS is superior. If you're in a depth with zombies/devilites (shadow), a Crest of Almire or Dread Skelly shield would be superior.

Those sets are fine, I'd stick with set 2 for FSC, where you use your Owlite for the shield and the Blitz as your gun.

Look up the shields on the wiki, look up damage on the wiki. Ever since arsenal stations have been put in, you might as well aim to get all those shields (Owlite,CoA, BTS), so you'll be extremely well protected no matter where you are.

If you ever have questions regarding what gear is good against what monster, look up each one on the wiki. Monster damage types are shown, and so are shield resistances. When they match, you're good :P

And which shield was best

And which shield was best overall in T3 Grey Owlite or BTS?

I'm afraid there isn't such thing as overall in this game.
T3 can have any theme - so, for example if it there's construct theme you'll be doing better with Owlite, but if there's beasts theme you'll be doing better with BTS. If there's fiend theme you'll be having hard time with any of those two though.

Generally it is best to have at least three shields: one against elemental damage, one against shadow damage and one against piercing damage.

Mitoxx
Yapp i decided what i'm gonna go for now! :D

Thanks for all ur help and good answers people! :D
I have decide what to go for now and yaa i'm "only" gonna have 2 5* Armors and 2 shields cuz i don't wanna change armor all the time..
So here it is :D

5* Armor! :D

1. Vog Cub Cap/Coat
2. Snarbolax Cap/Coat when i'm playing Shadow Lairs
3. Grey Owlite when i'm playing FSC
4. BTS when i'm playing all the rest stages.. =P
5. Combuster
6. Gran Faust
7. BTB
8. I'm acctualy going to change between Polaris and Blitz Needle
I am going to use BN in FSC and all the other stages i'm gonna use Polaris :D

So it's almost exactly as my Nr.2 in my other post but well ya...
But i am a bit confused on 1 thing that i can check out on the wiki but i ask it here also.. =P
My swords i don't really get where to use which (I know Piercing Dmg on Grems, Wolvers and frogs) And the Gran Faust i should use in Shadow Lair right?
And the other stages my Combuster??
Well ya which sword is best in FSC and which is best in S L? :P
Edit: I totaly forgot to ask which sword is best in RJP?? Is it Gran Faust and Combuster?

For the shadow armor, I

For the shadow armor, I recommend using Crown of Fallen + Snarbolax Coat. Full set of snarby coat has no fun resist and may be a pain in the ___. Crown of Fallen has a universal ASI and fire resist. Even though it has a curse penalty and fiend penalty, I still find it a great headset to go with the snarby coat.

Oh, and I find it funny how no one mentions the word "bomb". If you can afford it, try to slowly get at least one status bomb and it could be reeeeally useful in shadow lairs. It could be shiver or the shock bomb, but I guess a real bomber can give you some pro tips on that.

For which weapon to use

For which weapon to use against what, see this on the wiki : http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Damage#Monster_Resistances

Shadow Lairs have a variety of monsters, so one weapon (or type) will not be efficient. Ideally you'd have some form of elemental, shadow, and piercing damage, but considering you don't have your first 5* set, I'd really avoid even thinking about this since it will be quite a while before you do Shadow Lairs.

FSC is mainly Zombies (and a few construct Turrets), so an elemental weapon really shines there. You might also consider a piercing weapon such as a BTB or Blitz to take out Trojans (fiend family).

Both the Gran Faust and Acheron are great swords for taking out the jellies in RJP. Bring the Combuster too to take out the Lumbers.

On a side note: You seem quite eager to do Shadow Lairs, yet you have zero experience in FSC and even say yourself that you're new. If you are using real money or magically got a ----load of CE, build your experience in areas like FSC which have a bit higher difficulty so that you don't bog down your team when you do a Shadow Lair. I was offered beforehand, but I did not do a Shadow Lair until I successfully solo'd my way through FSC and Vanaduke without a single death. I just knew I'd feel like a jerk if I was the reason my team failed a SL run, so I figured if I could do that, a SL run should not be overly difficult to me.

I really have a bad habit of making long posts :x

Mitoxx
Aahh okay

Well i'm not so eager to go SL but hmm i have played T2 pretty much now and i can do the RJP pretty easy (With a party) Never tried solo but hmm...
So i should maybe get some better 4* Stuff and solo RJP and then i can start thinking about FSC and SL? :D
But well i've got all my answers now that i need about armor n stuff so thx alot everyone who helped me! :D

Thought about a bit different new 5* armor :D

Hello again guys! :D

I wrote before what i wanted to have as a 5* armor but now i checked my stuff and ya i had bought some bonus "upgraded" Dusker and well it's pretty good bonuses so i though about a new really awesome allround armor! :D
So i want to ask u guys if u think it will work???

Here it is... Nr 1:

1. Skolver Cap + Low Elemental Def bonus (Ofc Snarbolax when i'm going SL)
2. Vog Cub Coat + Medium Fire resistance
3. Grey Owlite shield + Medium Piercing Def bonus
4. Combuster
5. Acheron
6. BTB
7. Blitz Needle and Polaris

Yapp that was it :D
Do u guys think it would be good for allrounding?? A bit of both Elemental and Piercing Def :P As i said Ofc i will have Snarbolax when i'm going SL :P
And yaa i have those bonuses and i wonder.. What are those called and can i upgrade them further?
And how do i upgrade them?? Cuz i bought them like that... Also i can say that i wont need ASI cuz i only use Fast swords because i don't like the slow swords haha :D
Edit: Should i go for this or should i go for either

Nr: 2. Skolver Cap/Coat
Grey Owlite + Piercing def...
Or
Nr: 3. Vog Cub Cap/Coat
BTS (idk if i will get any bonus)

Same weps and all on those just change the Def/Armor :P
Plz tell me what you think :P

Should i get Nr. 1 2 or 3?

Demonicsothe's picture

Answer a few questions first

What are you using these sets for? All around diving? Without switching armour(s) to fit the stratum?
If your answer to this is yes, then Nr. 1 would be your best all around set.

Do you actually have these items and is trying to figure out how to fit them all in one?
If you have both vog/skolver, fit the correct armour for the strat. Seeing as how you lack shadow armour, it is advised for you to start crafting a piece, if not a set.

Do you mean using snarbolax for SL, or doing Sl to get snarby?
You will definately need a 5* set for shadow lairs, unless you find a group to carry you through it. There should be a thread with such groups in general discussions.

Answer to: Demonicsothe

Eermm well i don't have the sets but i have Ash tail... With those bonuses i said.. And i got Horned and soon Wise Owlite..
So i am going to craft a 5* set but idk if i want nr 1 2 or 3....
But well i'm mostly gonna do PvE like FSC and ofc other PvE stages so i want an allround armor :P
I am soon going to upgrade to 5* so i wanna know what to go for.. :P

So u think it's a good allround with
Skolver Cap + Low Elemental Def
Vog Cub + Fire resistance Medium
Grey Owlite + Medium Piercing Def...
So im going for that instead of
Vog cub Cap/Coat and barbarous Thorn shield...? :P

Demonicsothe's picture
Demonicsothe
Might as well go half vog and

Might as well go half vog and half skolver. Craft the vog with the ashtail that has fire resist uv, and skolver with the other one. Unless you know you will be only doing fsc, in which case craft all vog.

For general usage, set n°1 is

For general usage, set n°1 is better because you have more diversified defenses. The weapon choice is good : on sword of each damage type and a gun side-arm. When you reach Snarbolax, I would replace Skolver, because elemental is more important than piercing. Or just adapt according the level you are going to face.

Those bonus are called UV (Unique Variant), you can learn more about that on the wiki. In short : no, you can't upgrade them, consider yourself lucky you have a fire med already, because it's a great UV.

Merethif's picture

Lack of Shadow defence

Absolute lack of Shadow defence doesn't make any of those sets an good "allround" armour IMO. Greavers and devilites are most deadly enemies. Especially now since wolvers being nerfed, Piercing defence isn't much useful (honestly if there were no Polyps it would be virtually useless).

Mitoxx
I don't think i will really need Shadow Def

I acctualy don't think i would need Shadow def cuz when im going for Shadow Lair i will have Snarbolax armor and IMO there is not so much Shadow Dmg monsters in the other stages... Or well in T1-T2 and i have only been in T3 1 time so idk how it is there...
But in T1-2 i survive pretty easy with my Dusker-Ash Tail and that is Piercing def...

So i think it will be a good mix acctualy but if there is alot more Shadow Dmg monsters in T3 plz tell me then i need to think again maybe :P
Otherwise i will go with this armor setup and i think it will work pretty fine acctualy but i need to get a Vog Cub Cap also that i can use as Costume so i don't look like a well ya... And then i can use it as main Cap when i'm going FSC runs :3

Merethif's picture

Actually there's, more or

Actually there's, more or less, the same number of Shadow, Piercing and Elemental Damage in T2 and T3.
There are 6 monster families: 2 of them deal mostly Shadow Damage, 2 of them deal mostly Piercing damage and 2 of them deal mostly Elemental damage. So theoretically damage types are pretty balanced and you should encounter all of them equally in T2 and T3.

If you haven't encounter many monsters that deal Shadow Damage in T2 that's probably because you're avoiding Fiends and Undead Stratum and levels (like Devilish Drudgery, Candlestick Keep, Scarlet Fortress or Concrete Jungle).

And BTW, Shadow Damage doesn't have much in common with Shadow Lairs. Actually in two out of four Shadow Lairs you won't encounter even a single monster that deals Shadow Damage.

Mitoxx
I've changed my mind again...

Hello again guys! :D
I've changed my mind again about my armor...
Cuz i've looked on the wiki and played some more and i realized that i acctualy need Shadow def cuz i have most problem against Shadow Enemies..
And i am going to start upgrade now but i can't decide what to get! :(
So here is 3 New armor sets with ALL different Def types.. :P
So plz say which 1 u think i should get and why! :D Here they are.....

Armor 1:
Skolver Cap +Low Elemental def - Vog Cub as Costume
Grey Owlite + Medium Piercing Def UV
Snarbolax Coat + Low Fire resistnace - Vog Cub as Costume

Armor 2:
Skolver Cap + Low Elemental Def - Vog Cub as Costume
Crest Of Almire
Vog Cub Coat + Low fire resistance

Armor 3:
Vog Cub cap + Low Elemental Def
Grey Owlite Shield + Medium Piercing Def
Radiant Silvermail (Which gives Piercing and Shadow Def) - Vog cub as Costume

So plz tell me which 1 i should get and which is most allround?? :D// Peace N Löve ;D

Really, it's up to you. Just

Really, it's up to you.

Just be careful, your shield doesn't count in your stats when you get hit. Imagine it as a friend you use as a shield, with its own stats. If you want to take less damage from shadow damage, you'll have to take an armor or a helm with shadow resist. If you want your shield to last longer, take a shadow shield.

Also, it'll be a while before you can include a Snarbolax part on your stuff, because you need to run Shadow Lair, and you generally don't go there with less than 5* stuff. Same goes for Crest of Almire, which requires you to beat Vanaduke several times.

A last note for future questions : we don't care about your costum, use Proto if you want, it doesn't change your stats and thus is not something we are going to recommend you on.

Mitoxx
I think i'll go for nr 3 then :D

Fradow if u say the shield doesnot count in my stats it's just like a "friend" then i will go for set nr 3 :D
Cuz there i have all the different Def types and both Element and Piercing Bonus when i shield :D
So thx alot for the answer now i know what to upgrade! :D
And btw.. I can go Vana and complete him if i want cuz i have alot of "pro" friends that can help me and they have done Vana A LOT of times :P
Just saying :3

Indeed the set n°3 is the

Indeed the set n°3 is the best for all-around, much like the Skolver Coat + Divine Veil set. Compared to that, you gain ASI med and loose DMG med vs all and DMG med vs fiends, and have different status resist.

And Owlite shield is a good all-around shield, because it protects against elemental, which is the most common, and the 2 most feared status.

But, knowing that there are arsenal stations everywhere now, in the long term, you may want to have a specific armor for each damage type. The all-around set is a good starting point, but it's better to have both part defending against normal + the most present special damage of the current level than an all-around defense, once you have enough money to afford that.

Mitoxx
Aah yeah i think so to :)

Yaah i also think that it's better to have specific when i can affor it :D
But do i really need a Shadow Dmg sword after i've left RJP? :)
Cuz i wanna have The Striker series sword instead of my Silent Nightblade after i left RJP and when i meet slimes i can just use my Combuster because Elemental dmg is pretty good against them too :)
So i want to have this weapon setup

Combuster
BTB
1 Of the striker swords
Polaris - Blitz Needle in FSC

But i have 1 question about the striker swords...
Which 1 is best of Wild Hunting Blade or Dread Venom Striker??
I think it is the Wild Hunting Blade but i have no idea?
So which 1 do u guys think is best? :)
Peace//Mitox

Fradow's picture
Fradow
To answer to that question

To answer to that question "But do i really need a Shadow Dmg sword after i've left RJP? :)" there really is 2 things to know (the final answer is up to you) :
- in FSC, a shadow weapon is useless. The few oilers down there can be taken out by any weapon beside piercing ones without too much problem.
- but T3 isn't only FSC. If you intend to do the rest (or run to the terminal), there will be some times when you will encounter gremlins and slimes. It's good to have a shadow weapon ready for them. But really, if you only do FSC and thus will not need a shadow sword for strata 6, it's not worth upgrading your Silent Nightblade to 5* before the rest : the damage difference isn't a lot before strata 6.

But concerning the Striker series sword : why do you want to use it ? It's normal, thus inferior to BTB/Combuster against their intended targets, and it's hard to use in T3 because of the overly agressive style play. The only valid reason to use it, in my opinion, is to destroy Vana mace (aside for change of playstyle/novelty/graphical awesomeness).

If you really want to go down the Striker line, the most effective is the Dread Venom Striker, because the beast bonus on Wild Hunting Blade is meh (BTB do so much better against beasts), but the most classy (by far) is the Wild Hunting Blade.

Gumball-Watterson
.

I left my nightblade and thorn blade at 4*. My reasoning is that rarely do I ever go past the clockwork terminal unless it's FSC, and in stratum 5, 4* weapons do pretty much the same damage as 5* weapons. And even if I do decide to continue on to stratum 6 in a non-FSC gate, the 4* nightblade does fine. My point (IMO): you'll still need your shadow sword, but upgrading it is up to you. It should do more damage per swing than the combuster in stratum 5 (against slimes and gremlins, that is. beasts, too since they resist elemental, but that's what you're thorn blade is for). I plan on upgrading mine if I ever get around to doing Shadow Ironclaw Munitions Factory.

And for the striker swords, I'm not too big a fan of them, but I would suggest going with Dread Venom Striker. Pretty much the same damage against all monsters except beasts, but thorn blade is already great at killing beasts (and you're already planning on getting one) and the DVS has a chance to poison, which is always nice. I will say, though, that the Wild Hunting Blade is pretty flashy, what with all them gold-ish wolvers popping out. Heck, I might actually get one just for that neat effect.
