Change the way coins pick up

Hi all,

It is not obvious how coins and heat are distributed when playing in a party, and in fact, the misleading nature of the visuals creates tension, mistrust, and even leads some I know to avoid group play.

Im still not exactly sure but after some investigation on the forums to see if there was some sort of distribution system, I found that supposedly, everyone gets the same heat and coins per floor. This is EXTREMELY non obvious from the way heat and coins flow toward and bounce over one players head.

I would suggest either having them simply bounce and disappear on the spot they are dropped and added to the group total, or show them only on your screen bouncing over your head regardless of who picked them up.

Or you could make it work

Or you could make it work like Hearts. Where you pick up your own heat and coins, but its the exact same as everyone else, but say they pick theres up, it's still there on your screen because you have not gone to get it yet. This way you know you're getting Heat/Coins. Just like you know when a heart drops, everyone can pick up that heart, even if someone else already grabbed it.

I think its fine as is. And

I think its fine as is. And in the game tutorial, I could swear it taught you that heat and crowns collected are shared among all.

...or people could just read

...or people could just read the wiki/boards/helps on the topic. Personally, i like the graphics (they're *pretty*) and I like the fact that someone has to pick it up, and I'm pretty cool with the fact that I don't have to pick it all up personally. Also, as it stands, being dead doesn't prevent you from getting money/etc if your party survives. If it was an "everyone collect their own" situation, that would no longer be the case.

I am fine with the current

I am fine with the current system as it is. I was just offering a suggestion. I am confused if heat does actually pan out evenly (Friends tend to get full heat while I do not), but I have gotten heat while AFK so I do now I at least get a percentage of it. Whether it is evenly distributed I do not know for sure(I checked wiki, doesn't say anything about it) Now, if it even gives it to everyone at the end of the Level, that would make sense, and it wouldn't matter if I had full heat or not. (I have not done any research on this, as it hasn't bugged me enough to do so)

heat is the same as coins,

heat is the same as coins, everyone gets them. and then divided evenly on equipments that needs leveling. so "full heat" might just because he only has 1 item to level.

I agree that the current

I agree that the current system is fine as it is. Haven't had a single problem, and as others have pointed out, the tutorial implies that everything is shared.

Thats not the point

I don't think you understand my point,

Its all about cooperation and the psychology of competition, and come on you know well over 50% of the players never read the tutorial script... whats the whole point of showing them getting taken instead of just granting them instantly on monster death? Its so you feel like you GOT something, but its not showing WHO got them, and people ARE getting confused.

I KNOW you can figure the information out one way or another, but this is a extremely cooperative game, I feel like the visuals should PROMOTE cooperation instead of hiding the way things are shared.

I personally know quite a few players who didn't read the tutorial and will never read the forums. I was just pointing out that coins flying toward someone could easily be changed so that, people don't HAVE to be told in a tutorial or on a forum things aren't being 'stolen' from them.

I've never met a single

I've never met a single person in this game who thought the way you're suggesting a large enough group of people do to warrant a change in drop mechanic. In order to see that you're getting coins you need only look at your amount of money when going through a dungeon, and know the value of each color crown.

Seriously.

have you ever tried just explaining it to those people? It's a rather simple task. Coins and heat go to everyone equally, there is no gain from soloing with regards to crowns and heat. Hearts are obviously instanced to players so there is no worry about others taking dropped hearts. Minerals picked up during the level are also shared amongst the party, so no reason to fight over who gets a particular mineral. The only gains from soloing are materials and one time use clockwork items. Aside from drops, parties make enemies have more health, to counter the higher damage output present. See how easy it is too explain?

To the guy saying he doesn't always get full heat when his friends do. Do you mean in weapon lvl progression or the little heat indicator at the bottom right of your health bar? Also keep in mind that when you die you lose 10% of your currently collected heat, and if a teammate revives you they get that 10%, if you energy revive it's simply lost to the ether.

Maybe a crown analog of the heat meter?

It's clear that heat is shared, because everyone sees a heat meter that increases when party members pick up heat. Crowns lack a similar meter. A similar meter - perhaps a coin pouch that becomes more full as more crowns are collected - would make it clear that players share coins in the same way they share heat.

The Simple Solution

The simple answer would be to add a note about how heat and crowns are distributed to the notes you see in between level loading.

Does not your crown count go up as other players pick them up? If thats not an analog of the heat meter, I don't know what is. Thats what I watch to know how much money I'm collecting when I'm solo, pretty easy to keep an eye on.

Number goes up, but who's looking at it?

Of course my crown count goes up, but I don't exactly watch that little number while I play. It's out of the way and now thankfully no longer on the same order of magnitude as the crowns I gain from a given level, so changes are small and go unnoticed.

I know how crowns work, so I don't worry that I'm not getting mine, but if other players are worried, it would make sense to add a heat-like meter for each level. I pay close attention to my health and heat, so adding a coin purse down by those would help me get a quick visual on the profits of a given level, which would be nice but admittedly unnecessary.

That's the thing. Other players aren't worried. This guy is representing a demographic that doesn't exist.

@solkanar512: Seconded

The loading screens do seem like the perfect place for information like this. When I was starting out, I had quite a few "Oh, that's good to know" moments from those.
