i have a lot of friends who have access tho, hope they wont spoil it for me! =0
"- All items in your Supply Depot will cost 1ce for testing purposes"
1CE or 1E?
Fantastic. Really excited to give this a whirl in a couple hours.
Please don't take this the wrong way. I'm not trying to be rude in this post however it is somewhat difficult for me to phrase otherwise.
I don't quite get why testers are required to have spent $9.95 or more in the last 30 days, to HELP you do YOUR job. (Deliver polished content, which we then pay for)
I can understand you don't want people who have absolutely no idea what their doing, and that you only want people who actually care about the game enough to test it and give feedback, but the cost just doesn't make sense.
It feels more like a marketing scheme rather than the friendly "Let's get the community help up find bugs!", or at least that's the impression you've given me.
I just spent $21...
For the Explorer Pack...
December...
...
FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU-!
@Blackdragoniv
HOLY @#$% why are you complaining?
It doesn't matter! It's not like those testers are getting anything special! They just get to TRY it first, they don't even actually get a head start (except with knowledge)!
How do you log in to the test server using steam? It keeps telling me to select use steam but its not a choise on the log in screen.
I bought some CE during the tails tails promo with kongregate kreds does that count as a 10 dollar purchase to get into the testing server?
Scootsy anyone can install the preview but only the paying accounts can log into it
But knowing is half the battle!
SPIIIIII-RAAAAAL KHIGHTS!
But seriously,
YAAAAAAAAY!!!
I got a $10 thing yesterday but it wot let me get on because I have steam.
BlackDragon - The money requirement is largely a marketing thing. That's essentially the point.
If you've paid $9.95 in the last month to support the game, you get access to the test server and you get to sample all the upcoming content. And that's really what it is - sampling content early; not wading into a bug-filled pool that OOO desperately needs help to fix. The code is generally pretty polished and has already undergone testing by the time it gets to us, but players do still submit feedback, and OOO is kind enough to listen to and sometimes implement it.
Look at it as: "$10 to support the game, get CE on the main server, and get access to play upcoming content early", as opposed to: "I'm about to head into a slave labor camp where I'm forced to find bugs against my will", and this is a more accurate comparison of what playing on the test server is like. It's a fun place and a nice little bonus if you enjoy the game a lot. : )
Well, so much for testing cool new [crap] this weekend ;_;
There's also the reason of setting the bar up high to weed out bad testers.
This is supposed to be a testing event. You know, where we test the game and tell OOO what's wrong. I'd wager that far more people that payed $10 would be willing to post feedback instead of just playing through the thing and then not saying anything than those who haven't.
well, nothing loads for me :/
It just gets stuck at the loading screen when i try to either go to resque camp, OR do a mission..
If I buy say a elevator pass and about 1600ce, would the money spent on the pass still count towards the $9.95 quota for getting in the test server?
@Pinkalike Have you made sure you are on the US server? For some reason EU server doesn't work on it.
> BlackDragon - The money requirement is largely a marketing thing. That's essentially the point.
This is incorrect. If it were largely a marketing thing, we'd be pushing it a whole lot harder, i.e., "Buy your Preview Pass now and see what's coming in Spiral Knights!"
Some things just plain need to be tested in the living world, not just with a bunch of OOO staff who have already seen the new features a thousand times. So we really do want the keen eyes of Spiral Knights players on the content, and we are serious about wanting feedback.
The way I see it is, players that have a tangible invested interest (i.e. money) in the game are given the privilege to preview new things and help look out for bugs and errors in the test server. Those players are more likely to give good, thoughtful feedback, since they want the game to continue and thrive. The only requirement I don't necessarily agree on is the 30 day policy -- I'm the type of player who pays conservatively but will buy packs and energy when I can, and sometimes that happens to fall a few days or weeks outside of the 30 day period -- but that is their policy and I'm sure they've thought about it before putting it in place.
PSA: A new update has just been released.
Is there any way to enter the test server if I'm a kongregate user?
@Eury - Ah, fair enough. It was hard not to look at the money segment as marketing-driven in some way or shape, due to the nature of the requirement. But agreed that you guys certainly aren't promoting it like you do other sales, and it seems nice to use it as a way to thank players who are spending money and supporting the game in some way.
Wow, cool. How does one get testing access?
