Ok so if there was a big package of 1million ce as 1 item, people could bid on it. The winner gets it all.

Its a pretty cool idea and would be a test of the richest player in SK. And if the richest player has more than 1m worth in ce then make the item a package of 10million ce!

I don't think its a bad idea, actually. It'd help to lower the price of ce a bit, thats for sure... although I doubt OOO would ever do something like this.

I think a lottery or raffle

I think a lottery or raffle ticket system would be a better idea. It'll probably make more money than the current Featured Auctions as you don't have to be ridiculously wealthy to play, and it could also give OOO an idea of how popular an item in the game is at a given time.

Err, I dunno... I think

Err, I dunno... I think trolling...

1m CE = 50 lots of 20k CE, or approximately $2,500. I do not think OOO would just give away that much revenue. Not to mention what would you need that much for?! Even getting the best items available wouldn't cost you half of that.

economics...

isnt this a pretty common intro to econ scenario?

version two: you pay 10cr to cast a bid

version three: the highest bidder gets the prize, but the number two bidder also has to pay - no prize

eh, I wouldn't even bother

eh, I wouldn't even bother bidding on it because it would be a complete waste of time for 99% of the players. And then, all it would do is make the richest player richer. Why would OOO want to give so much CE to a player who doesn't even need it? It would also go directly against OOO's stance of having a market controlled by the players (granted OOO does influence it) by directly selling CE for cr (even if it is an auction, it is a direct sale).

This is probably one of the worst ideas I've read recently.

Number crunching

If we use the current market, and it remains stable, the package would be worth between. 62,000,000 and 61,500,000 crowns. As for it's actual value. If $50 is worth 20,000CE, they'd get around $2,5000 worth of CE.

If someone buys that much CE, I think they should get a special benefactor helmet or something.

Either way it's a bad idea since it would just makes the richest player or guild richer. There are at least some limiters to keep this economy from turning into TF2's aptly named J**conomy (Self-Censored because I don't feel like being chastised.) We shouldn't be tempting fate as is. I mean I stopped playing that TF2 because the black market economy for that game is free market at it's worst.

not a bad idea, but a bad idea XD

my dear friend erridunno,

let me start by saying, we should certainly stand next to each other in haven later today while lookin at stuff in the AH. consider that done :)

Its a good idea, on face value. Well, its an interesting idea to be sure. I like it, from a "lets generate new ideas" perspective. like i said, interesting. But its ultimately not a good idea to implement, for a few below the surface reasons.

#1) as a test of ultimate wealth, its fun. But, like stated above, all you'd be doing is offering the opportunity for the richest player (or one willing to spend the most money) to buy even more wealth at a discount, which they could then resell at a huge profit *** see below for more details.

#2) it'd have the exact oppisite of the desired effect. within 24 hours this would send teh CE market up by 1,2, evek 3k crowns per 100. I shall explain.
Here are our participants:
--every super rich player who stands a legitimate shot at winning it.
--every rich player who decided to take a shot
--every player with absolutely no shot, but to unaware to realize they have no shot.

so what do all these players have in common? They will all exchange all their CE for crowns, in an effort to win it. (yes, this will drive the market down quite a bit). What else? they will all end the auction (save one, the winner) with no CE and all of their value held in crowns. They then will all want to get some CE back so they'll put in bids.

So you'd have a relatively small, and super short window of low ce prices. followed by an avalanche of want to buy's the likes of which we have never before seen in spiral knights. you'd literally have thousands, if not 100s of thousands of CE broke, crown rich players all trying to get exchange for CE at once. Bidding, overbidding, overbidding and overbidding one another in again and again. We'd see CE prices rising by 1000s of crowns per day, and i don't doubt it'd break teh 10k barrier before all is said and done.

And if sk economy history has proven anythign, its that the market has no problem rising and rising quickly. When prices get low, it can change in teh blink of an eye. When prices go high, the movement back down is glacial.

***
so the winner (rubyeclipse or chris, lol) would win 1m ce at a discount (a conversion rate cheaper than the market bears). Then, within 48 -72 hours, they could resell it at a 5-6k markup per 100 ce. In fact, as the economy is naturally raging upwards due to this terrible turn of events, the seller could sell off some CE and create multiple buying blocks, artificially forcing the market up 1000s of crowns over the now already inflated price.

"If only there was a way to get the market value in crowns for that much CE... :)"
Uh, I think he inadvertently just trolled this. Wouldn't people stop bidding once it passed market value....?
There is a set price of CE every second, and people aren't going to pay more than they have too. Say there was 100 CE in the AH. I'd bid on it until it went past 6.2k. Then no one would bid. Becuase, as Nick said, you can just get the market value in crowns of that much CE. AH would get bidded up, then we would all go back to the regular energy depot. So this literaly can't work. As in it cannot. Not even arguable.

@OrangeoThere is one

@Orangeo

There is one difference- this isn't 100 ce. Its a million.

One million ce = 6,200,000,000 cr at market price. However, as Nick said, there is no way to get that much cr to spend on CE, of which you wouldn't be able to use half of. The result- Crazy bidding, and a large amount of ce being sold.

Here is how it would go-

-Ce is put up.

-Several "rich" people sell ce and go for it, thinking they can win under the stipulation of both "having bought the ce" and of being able to sell it and profit.

-This floods the market with their ce as they try to purchase the large amount of ce on the AH.

-The Market price for CE would likely drop due to the few people trying to sell ce- because it is profitable up until the price of the ce you have sold is less than the price of ce you are buying...

-Other players would buy up the ce, and hold it in, forcing the price to remain somewhat neutral.

-Several people would decide to purchase ce and then sell it to... buy ce off of AH, then they'd end up having to outbuy the others, resulting in another flood of ce.

-The CE is eventually bought for far less than the 6 billion crowns it is "worth", because that many crowns is just not to be had by any player.

-The CE is then sold at least in part at market price, reducing the market price further, because no one will ever need that much ce.

-The players that lost the auction would then go to buy ce- they would have slightly less crowns, and would be able to buy only a fraction of what they had, raising the price up to slightly less than it originally was at.

The end result would be the rich getting richer, -but also the "poor" and the "middle class" getting richer as well.

@Rommil

CE pricing works on a fairly simple supply and demand chart-

-Steam players join, new players buy ce, ce prices fall.
-OOO makes lockboxes which cost 750 ce to open; ce prices rise

This would introduce a large amount of CE into the system while destroying a lot of crowns from it. Every time someone sells CE for crowns, the crowns they get is lowered by a percentage, thus even if every single knight were to sell and rebuy their ce, it would only lower the price of ce in the long run. All those players would get their ce back- and then there would be extra to spare once they did.

EDIT: Oh, and thank you for taking my suggestion on posting in suggestions, Nick. Disregard if you posted on it while it was in general. Probably did.. nor do I honestly think that I swayed you to post by making one thread.

I agree with u Fenzor except 1million ce= 60,200,000 not 6,200,000,000 as that is 6.2billion, which is 100x 60,200,000.
