I play Recon in LD.I usually manage to pull death marks on a whole pack of enemies which IMO helps my teams immensely. Unfortunately I always feel like a Scrub with my 4k damage. I want your guys's opinion on whether it is more effective to killed death marked enemies with either DA/GF or FF/BTB. Or should I just not use swords at all?

Oh btw I have access to full Vog and full Skolver.

You should go with a 2

You should go with a 2 swinger. You sneak up on people and before the alert mark comes up you 2 combo them and then run like hell.

Well I play recon in LD and use an Acheron toothpick mix. Acheron is nice because it makes little knockback, by far my favorite to line up shield cancelled first strikes with Acheron + toothpick mix. Something about heavy swords I cannot stand. Requires a lot more anticipation to take down those striker gunners, because of how much they out run you as well as they have that ranged advantage. That is just assuming you are a recon though, if you are a striker no idea.

Toothpicks are more reliable

Toothpicks are more reliable for general fighting. For a Recon, though, if you can catch them by surprise, a GF will kill most players with the first two-hit combo. Not many people use shadow resistance, and the first hit already hits an unprotected player for about 50% of their health; and then the second hit does more damage, so...

But if you apply a cloak and gf to the face idea to a piercing sword, it still hurts. And with a higher base asi on piercing swords, you can cloak and gtfo faster.

QQ freezingflame, or whoever he is that decided to do that against me.

Situational

I carry around both when I go recon.

If there is a Skolver Striker meandering around a point, I sneak up behind him and give him two DA wacks to kill him instantly (Sometimes even 2 Skovler Strikers at once).

However, if there is a Guardian, I either pull out my Sentenza and shoot at his shield, or I sneak in with my FF and Shield/Cloak cancel like crazy while running around him. Done correctly, and it looks like you are just wildly teleporting around the poor guardian, and eventually you will overwhelm his shield.

death mark makes normal damage weapons viable

I've been using a Triglav as recon for the last two months. It is undeniably inferior to DA/GF in the majority of situations - noticeably slower and less damaging due to normal damage being well resisted by the majority of opponents.

However there is one situation in which it shines brightly. The death mark removes normal resistance and allows a Triglav/Sud to make full use of its first hit raw damage superiority over DA/GF.

Don't be enticed though. In all other situations I long for a DA/GF.

@Quiknine oh, so that's why you keep using Triglav instead of DA/GF. That's indeed a good argument for this specific situation.

@fradow That is what I

@fradow

That is what I console myself with :) I built the Trig as a T3 noob, but have persisted from a Challenge/style perspective.

1) Its fun to use a unique weapon which has a certain surprise element. Interesting for me to be the only guy with that weapon and hopefully interesting for my opponents too. I wish there were more gunners, bombers, caliburs, cutters and winmillions.

2) Two mastery of a weapon widely considered to be inferior is a worthy challenge for any PVPer. Should someone ever become truly effective with it (i'm not there yet but improving), it is good grounds for gaining respect as a skilled PVPer. While certain toothpickers are clearly talented PVPers, if they spam OP weapons (polaris and BTB) to get their >20k damage, how can their true skill ever be distinguished from their superior weaponry?

Think samurai vs machine gunner... I'm considering a Winmillion as my secondary. Another uphill challenge i know :) However, lunging first hit and projectiles. Should be good... :)

Do you always wait for the death mark before you strike? If you do, remember that any cloak can trigger the death mark as long as they have the warning symbol above their head, so you can do things like warning-slash-cloak-deathmark-slash.

If you wait for death marks, Skolver and heavy sword might be better for you, but if you're more aggressive, Vog and its ASI would be a better match.

I have seen people like Rebootse go around with recon+toothpick, making use of its speed to cloak-poke while circling around targets, but I think that's more of a stealth/anti-auto-target trick, since invisibility isn't up long enough to deathmark before the next attack.

I play gun/heavy swords recon so I usually poke/bait/try for shock status at range with Storm Driver (cloak-shooting), then switch to my high ASI DA for a punch if one of us approaches.

@Quiknine
Haha, so true @ normal damage being made viable. Valiance is pretty awesome on marked people.
I've thought about switching out for Triglav/Sudaruska for the slash1, but using my DA's attack speed and 2 hit combo is too tempting :/

IMO

As Seiran said "Do you always wait for the death mark before you strike?" The Deathmark is Useful but also a disadvantage to you. Once the enemy see the Deathmark they know your there,and they'll usually spam there weapon going crazy until they hit you.Once your exposed you're very vulnerable and can be killed fast.

As the advice they gave, if you see a lone striker just standing there, use the DA/GF BEFORE the deathmark appears. Usually a 2-hit K.O if not use the BTB/FF to finish them off. Shield cancelling is very useful in LD. Also A reason for why you tend to get 4k Damage is you Don't Really get to attack. Like you say the In your opinion its useful for your Team-mates, implying that you let your team-mates do the kill why'll you run around keeping the deathmark on @_@
