A bit of computer help, please?

Alright, so I just got a refurbished asus G73JH. I tried playing SK on it, but the launch window for steam only appears for a split second then disappears, doing nothing afterwards. Trying to play on this site isn't any better; the window stays at 100% launching without actually launching anything. Any help, please?

I am the amazing jonathan

please allow me one moment to divine your OS, RAM, VRAM, and system configuration before we continue. I must have complete silence. So please, no posting in this thread until my divination is complete. Thank you.

OS: Windows 7. Previous computer had it, no problems there.
RAM: Around 8 GB
Graphics card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870
VRAM: Lol what's a vram. Under "Display" in DXDiag there's "Approx. Total Memory: 4079 MB", is that the same thing?
System configuration: Whut?

VRAM is Video RAM, it's handled by your graphics card

VRAM is usually what's on the video card anyway, and can be figured out just by mentioning what card ya got. There are ways to make your computer use normal RAM for video, but it's not as efficient, and I'm getting off topic.

You sure you got Java up to date? The game runs on it, ya know.
