I am very new to the game, but I have played many other MMO's. I understand PvP very well, but I don't think I understand what is going on, in this game. It seems to me like armor piercing and speed are the ways to go for PvP, but maybe I am wrong? I am not sure what I am doing wrong, exactly. I know, my gear is holding me back some, but it seems like when ever I go into Lockdown, even with high end tier pieces for that "bracket", I still get taking out very easily. In fact, I am not alone. The majority of the time, my entire team does too.

TL;DR - What type of gear do you suggest for Lockdown PvP to a newbie?

Thank you.

It would help us be more

It would help us be more specific in our recommendations if you told us what tier of lockdown you play and what style of play you are going for. There are some similarities across tiers but some things can change significantly depending on which tier you play and how you're trying to play. My recommendation for gear will be quite different for someone who is playing as a mainly sword-using guardian than it will be for someone going full gunner striker, for example.

There are some generalities though, in tiers 2 and 3 piercing defense is by far the most important defense type with normal being second (in t1 pierce is useless and normal is the most important with elemental the only other kind you need to worry about), shock and freeze are the most important statuses to guard against and if you use swords a lot attack speed and sword damage bonuses are also very important.

Another couple of things that are extremely important are the star level and heatedness of your gear. It is very important that your gear be at the maximum permitted star level for that tier (1 for t1, 3 for t2, 5 for t3) and fully heated to level 10. For armor/helms this increases your health and damage resists, for weapons it adds to damage and attack speed. The difference between using a level 1 sword and a level 10 one is very noticeable.

Also keep in mind the people who bothered to put together the best lockdown-specific gear are also probably the ones who spend a lot of time playing lockdown, have had the most practice at it and are therefore actually really good. Gear is very important but skill is still what really matters.

Get the Skolver set. Get a

Get the Skolver set. Get a Gran Faust. Get a Final Flourish or Barbarous Thorn Blade. Get a Divine Avenger. Get a Polaris. Congrats! You now have the loadout of the vast majority of LD players, and you will be able to compete with them, because it is hands-down the best set to use.

Ehh.. Fluffy is right.

@Fluffyfoxxie :O But almost nobody carries the DA and the GF in LD.
But yeah, that's pretty much the set you use except AP instead of DA.
And with Pentas, of course.

ah, true, I have been seeing

ah, true, I have been seeing less of them lately... but still I see a fair amount. A lot of people also use the elemental brandishes and/or acheron, due to their quick charging ranged charge attack.

most of my experience comes

most of my experience comes from T2 so if u like this tier this is the stuff i'd recommend:

swords: twisted snarble barb/3*flourish (whatever its called) > sealed > nightblade > any elemental brandish though shockburst would be best

guns: kilowatt pulsar > shadow alchemer > antigua /magnus > elemental alchemer

bombs: lightning capacitor > super blast/shards > freezing vaporizer > fiery vaporizer > electron charge

armor: dusker or gunner armors for swords and guns respectively. quicksilver is good for the shock resist. bomber armor is not necessary as recon gives med to bombs + med to everything so with lvl 10 bombs u get max, and in T2 atleast, striker bombing isn't really viable.

trinkets: heart pendants > shock > pierce > freeze > whatever else

(the same general theme would probably carry over to T3, upgrading the above to 5*. one exception is nitronome which isn't quite as useful in T3 as sbb is in T2)

general advice: if u plan on being mainly a bomber go recon. you'll get max ctr without any bomber armor, allowing you to wear stuff for resistances or bonuses to other weapons. pure bombing, though entirely possible, is not recommended as it cuts down on your versatility and will leave you vulnerable in many situations. also don't be tempted by the guardians ctr bonus. the strength of the guardian is their shield and you cant shield if you're bomb spamming, which means you're also not healing yourself or your team mates which leads to more deaths (im not saying that guardians shouldn't carry bombs, just that they shouldn't use it as a main weapon). if you're playing T3 then you have the possibility of striker bombing (yes you can still get max ctr despite the penalty, you just need lvl 10 bombs and equipment/trinkets/UVs that add to a total of very high + very high) though recon is probably the more well rounded set. and don't be turned off by the negative sword asi of recon, swords are still extremely useful for this class.
gunners are probably best off going either recon or striker. the best class for a swordie is striker though guardian is good too if u enjoy that role. if u choose the latter remember one of the most important parts (if not THE most important part) of your job is keeping your team mates alive. i cant tell you how frustrating it is to be capturing a point after a battle and be standing next to a guardian who isn't using his shield to heal. less frustrating but still annoying are the guardians who camp at a point and don't move from it the entire game. sure you might be able to defend it against a few people but odds are you'll get overwhelmed eventually. more importantly your team needs you with them. i know that sometimes its necessary to defend a point solo but once u can see its safe join ur team mates asap. sometimes keeping them alive that little bit longer can turn the tide. idk what the ideal loadout for a guardian would be, i play recon and striker personally, so i'll leave that for people who are better at it than i am to comment on.

my own set is TSB, lightning capacitor, SBB, kilowatt.

I've never played T2, only 1

I've never played T2, only 1 and 3. In T3, vog cub guardians are a rather bothersome type. Max or almost max asi without trinks, leaving you to stack pentas. I play skolver guardian, with btb/giga, occasionally swinging a da at.. at... heck. Rarely swing it except on guard shields.

T1, its strike with hatchet, or firecrackers with guradian.

Weapons I see in LD all the time:

These are the weapons I see all the time in T3 LD:

1) Final Flourish or Barbarous Thorn Blade: Undisputed, most used PVP weapons. They have absurd range, speed, and good enough damage. This is why everyone wears pierce resist.

2) Gran Faust or Divine Avenger: These two swing swords can insta-kill most strikers if their full combo hits. Gran Faust is used more due to fewer people having Shadow Armor.

3) Polaris: Everyone seems to hate this weapon, and it is inefficient when purely spammed... However, its power comes from AOE. The Polaris can coat a HUGE area in incredibly dangerous projectiles, essentially shutting down choke points to all but the foolish.

4) Voltaic Tempest: Shock is one of the most dangerous status effects in Lockdown. Voltaic Tempest coats huge areas in shock, doing what the Polaris does, except shorter range and with greater reliability.

5) Sentenza or Argent Peacemaker: These guns aren't used for their damage, more as annoyances. They cause enemies to flinch on every successful hit, rendering them practically stunned. They are also used to chip away at Guardian Shields and sweep for Recons. EDIT** Also, they are the bane of Bombers, because the rapid shots disrupt the Bomber's charge.

In T2 LD:

In T2 LD (Which I am currently on) I often see:
Dusker armor: People often use this for its increased sword attack power.
Jellymails:Often people have a large amount of hp and can be tricky to take down.

Sealed swords:These deal a large amount of damage although not used as much for its 30 Jelly gem cost.
Twisted Snarble Barb:It is very annoying to fight people who use this as the high damage, pierce type, and fast attack speed make it quite dangerous overall. I am often taken down by this.
Swift flourish: Pierce and good speed and damage.

Hope this helped, I unfortunatly do not use any of these, although I am trying to find times when my lag is not too high to fight Snarby so I can get a Snarble barb.
