First, I'm pretty new to the fan fiction side of Spiral Knights so don't be too harsh if this sucks
Second, this Original Post will most probably be the length of one page by the time it is done. Maybe more

***CHARACTER DOCUMENTATION***
Please note, all characters are decked out in the following gear, depending on their position and importance. Azure Guardian Set, Mighty Cobalt Set, Solid Cobalt Set, Cobalt Set, Blaster (2-5 star), Calibur (2-5 star), Blast Bomb (2-5 star) and Defender (2-5 star).

  • Admiral Masfos: As captain of the Spiral Knights' exploration ship The Skylark, all hopes and dreams of their kind rest in his hands. (5 Star Knight)
  • Captain Yezma: Yezma is a distant descendant of Spiral Knights' current recipes generator Kozma. As second in command of the Skylark, she leads the first of the Spiral Knights to land on Cradle. (5 Star Knight)
  • Lieutenant Heru: A mistrustful knight who brings forth the Knights' downfall to cradle. By making one foolish moment guided through peer pressure, he effectively sets into course the series of events, that brought forth the Knights' to cradle, and why they live there today. (4 Star Knight)
  • Lieutenant Thero: Thero is the supposed 'friend' over Heru. He forces Heru to make the vital decision that will give the Spiral Knights' their lifestyle for centuries to come. (5 star Knight)
  • Chief Geologist Tegner: Tegner, the first and foremost geologist aboard the Skylark, is in charge on monitoring the humane and sustainable environmental conditions aboard the Skylark. Tegner is also a descendant of Wegner. (5 Star Knight)
  • Specialist Captain Wefron: Wefron, who keeps control of the worlds that the Skylark is documenting, finds his inner self while in battle upon Cradle. He is a distant descendant of Lieutenant Feron. (5 Star Knight)
  • Chief Of Weapons Baraska: Baraska, who is in charge of keeping the weapons aboard the Skylark in usable, sustainable and powerful condition. He also makes sure that the weapons are carefully and fairly distributed amongst all the Knights. (4 Star Knight)
  • Health Specialist Menu: Menu is in charge of caring and healing those wounded upon the Skylark. Her position and value will greatly increase as the Knights explore Cradle, and find out it's most deadliest secrets. (3 Star Knight)
  • Alpha Squad Technician Rulen: Rulen is the Technician of the Spiral Knights' field squad, the Alpha Squad. As he monitors conditions on wherever the Squad explore, his position is vital for their survival and success (5 Star Knight)
  • Alpha Squad Scout Parma: Parma, the Alpha Squads' Scout, keeps track of all the monsters they encounter. Her position is key, because if this didn't occur, they will never know what to do, if they encounter the same monster twice. (5 Star Knight)
  • Alpha Squad Guardian Grantz: Grantz is the power force behind the Alpha Squad. Without him, they'd be stuck in many upon many awkward and tricky situations. (5 Star Knight)
  • Alpha Squad Captain Euclid: Euclid is the leader of the Alpha Squad, and as such, is a sort of parental figure for the three other members. However, he certainly packs a punch in battle, and holds the record of the first Knight to use a charge attack. Nifty! (5 Star Knight)
  • Chief Of Operations Ozlo: Ozlo is the man who runs the Alpha Squad. He was the one who gave them a very important mission. The mission was: Reach the core. But it's not so easy as he thought, just as what the Alpha Squad realized. The hard way however. (5 Star Knight)

***Chapter 1: The Discovery of Cradle***

'Twas a quiet, perfectly ordinary day upon the Skylark. However, upon the helm, Specialist Captain Wefron was relaying information back to Masfos and Yezma.
Wefron: Look at this data. The world you are planning to scan is not stable! There's a mass energy source emanating from within it's core, and if we get too close to it, we will be sucked down into it, and crash upon it's surface.
Masfos: Haha! But you cannot forget the power coils. While they are still in place there is no possible way that the planet gravitational force nor it's energy force can suck us in.
Yezma: He's right you know, while they are there no planet with whatever energy force can suck us in. It will resist everything at any possible cost.
Wefron: Ah, but who manages the power coils may I ask?
Yezma: Lieutenants Heru and Thero, and I'm sure they're doing just fine.
Wefron: How can you be sure?
An awkward silence filled the room. Wefron looking as smug as ever, Masfos staring hard at him, and Kozma contacting Lieutenant Heru to make sure that there was no possible problem. The response came back. There wasn't.
Masfos: You see Wefron? They are doing perfectly fine down there. For once my friend, you are wrong.
Wefron Hmph, but I'll just tell it to you straight. I don't trust those two and never will. They have a shady look about them, anything else to say?
Masfos: Yes. Get out.
With that, Wefron stormed from the room, barging past chief geologist Tegner as he went.
Tegner: Why, what was all that about?
Yezma: Oh just Wefron being stubborn as usual. The admiral told him secretly and openly that he was wrong. He didn't seem to like it.
Tegner: Yes..well, back to the business that I intended to talk about!
Masfos: Fire away.
Tegner: This is about the planet you are planning to scan, Cradle. Now, the environmental conditions upon this planet are just atrocious to tell it in a nice way. It seems to have a strong energy source coming from it's core. Which seems as a threat to us.
Yezma: A threat? But how is it a threat to us?
Masfos: Wait a second...
Tegner: Yes admiral?
Masfos: It can pull us down right? This is what Wefron told us.
Tegner: And he was absolutely one-hundred percent correct. Unless the power coils are in place?
Masfos: They are, and holding strong.
Tegner: Then I bid farewell to you, Admiral! And you captain!
Yezma: Goodbye, and further good luck with your studies!
As Tegner strolled out of the room, Masfos opened conversation with Yezma.
Yezma: Should we do anything about this? I have a bad feeling about the scan.
Masfos: Why should we? The power coils are in place, we have nothing to fear.
Yezma: And what about the two Lieutenants? Can they be trusted with the power coils?
Masfos: Why, you remind me of Wefron. You should be ashamed of yourself for thinking like that!
Yezma: But what if Wefron has a good point? What if they aren't to be trusted?
Masfos: I trust them with all of their abilities. That should be good enough for you.
Yezma: And what if it isn't?
Masfos: That is all captain.
Down on the works grid below the helm, Wefron walked up to the two Lieutenants, who were in deep conversation
Wefron: Well hello boys!
Heru: Oh, hi there Wefron.
Thero: What do you want here?
Wefron: Ouch Thero, that sounds a bit harsh. Just coming for a friendly visit! That too much for you!
Thero: The most I want to see from you, is you dead!
Heru: Really? Thero I didn't expect that of you. Never.
Wefron: Ah Heru, I agree with you. But he's a lively boy. He needs to let out steam once in a while.
Thero: Are you really trying to annoy me now?
Wefron: Why, I would never think of such a thing!
Thero rose from where he sat. There was fire dancing in his eyes as he took out a Bomb.
Wefron: Put that away sonny, you don't want to end up the same way as your dad.
Note: Thero's father was killed in a works accident in which Wefron was involved. Thero has hated Wefron since that day
Thero: I'm giving you one last chance, get out, before you get it the hard way.
Heru: Wefron...I think you should go.
Thero: I think so too. Get out!
Wefron Ok! I'm leaving, you see! I'm leaving. But I'll be back. boy will I...

CHAPTER 2

***Chapter 2: The Disaster Unfolds***

Thero has recently ranted at Wefron, which only increases his temper...
Thero: Well! Now that we got rid of him!
Heru: I'd be careful if I were you, he might report what you said back to Masfos.
Thero: I'd like to see him try it.
At that moment, Wefron barged into the helm, making Yezma launch two escape pods in surprise
Masfos: Yezma! Why on earth did you do that! Two perfectly good escape pods gone to waste...
Yezma: It was Wefron sir! He shocked me so hard that I pressed the button. Twice!
Wefron: Well you need to be more careful about what you are doing.
Yezma: Says you, who acts like a 5 year old whenever he is wrong.
Masfos: Stop this arguing! Immediately! I am getting a message from Tegner.
Wefron: Oh good grief...not that plant boffin.
Masfos: Well he's more knowledgeable than you, so you be quiet this instant.
At that moment, Tegner spoke through the microphone device on the helm's controls.
Tegner: Sir, a board meeting must be called. You need to tell every Knight about this threat.
Masfos: That settles it, I will call a meeting for this must be of great importance. I want to see you both down there when I arrive.
Yesma: Understood sir, Wefron? What about you?
Wefron merely laughed and strutted out of the room
Masfos: I don't know what we're going to do about him...
With a small grin, Yezma left the helm.
Tegner: Wefron, Yezma! Here at last, good good, and where is the admiral?
Yezma: He's most probably still up in the helm, yet I don't know what for...
At that moment, Grantz spoke up
Grantz: No doubt launching the rest of the escape pods! Harhar!
Yezma: Yes well.. I...
Tegner: Well, we must wait for the admiral then.
Hours passed, but at last, Masfos strolled into the room, looking very agitated.
Masfos: Well, bad news, one of the power coils has been reported faulty according to Lieutenant Thero.
Gasps and whispers erupted in the room, Wefron merely scoffed. Masfos ignored all this.
Masfos: But there is nothing to be scared of. They are working on it right this moment.
Wefron: And how can you be sure they will succeed?
Yezma whispered in Wefron's ear, telling him to sit down. He ignored her.
Tegner: I concur, they are not the most advanced nor skilled technicians.
Wefron: Not to mention, if they fail, we will all surely die.
Masfos looked more agitated than ever.
Grantz: Wait what? Why would we die if they failed?
Rulen: We would plummet towards Cradle's surface at such a high speed and magnitude that we would not withstand impact.
Euclid: And why would this be? Do tell, I'm extremely curious.
Tegner: Cradle gives off a energy force so strong it could pull the Skylark towards it.
Rulen: And if the power coils are not fixed soon, there is little chance we could survive.
Wefron: And what can you say to that admiral? If the Lieutenants cannot succeed then what do we do for survival?
Yezma: Show confidence fellow knights, all is not lost!
Wefron: We needn't show confidence if there is little but no hope for us all.
At that moment, Lieutenant Heru burst into the room. Covered in coal and dust and exhausted, he spluttered out:
Heru: Thero.. Dead.. Coils.. Broke...Death.. Launch.. Escape.. Pod..
And with that he slumped onto the floor
Masfos: All knights report to the escape pod bay! Immediately! Warn any knights of the danger. Abandon Ship!

CHAPTER 3

Note: it doesn't look like I'll be getting any feedback anytime soon, but I'll carry on nonetheless

***Chapter 3: Exile To Cradle***

Yezma: Well you heard the man! Let's move! Come on!
Everyone rose from where they sat and began to hurry towards the exit, informing other knights to come with them as they went.
Masfos: Lezma, get everyone to the escape pod bay, and make sure no-one is left behind.
Tegner: And what about you, may I ask Admiral? Not intending to linger?
Masfos: Someone has to launch the escape pods...
Tegner: Good god man! Have you lost your senses? You will die in the crash, no other way to survive! Come with us!
Masfos: I'm sorry Tegner, but there's no alternative. Yezma, you're in charge now.
Euclid: Even though I haven't know you long, it's been a pleasure working with you Admiral.
Masfos: Ditto.
Euclid and Masfos shake hands in a sign of respect and farewell.
Yezma looked upon the situation with tears in her eyes. However, she understood her mission, and nodded.
Masfos: Goodbye to you all, I wish you good luck on Cradle.
Menu: But Admiral, what happens if you survive? There's no way I can get to you and help you in this burning cascade.
Masfos: I strongly doubt that. Now! All of you! Get moving! Go on!
As everyone rushed off, Masfos peered over his shoulder, and saw Wefron staring at him coldly. Masfos grinned, and rushed to the helm
Tegner: Now, listen up everybody. I'm getting a message from the Admiral.
Masfos' voice piped up from the microphone of which Tegner was holding.
Masfos: Now, once you get everyone into the escape pods, and secured them, I want you to tell me one by one, and I will launch the escape pod in which you indicate. If I can trust you all, you will be the last ones to leave. Can you do that for me?
Yezma: Of course Admiral.
One by one, the group assorted all of the passengers aboard the Skylark into escape pods. And on Tegner's signal, Masfos launched them from the helm. It was all going so smoothly, for something so disastrous. As the group were the last ones left aboard the ship, they remembered Heru, who was still left, unconscious in the board room.
Tegner: Masfos, Euclid has gone to fetch Heru from the board room, so there's going to be a slight delay.
Masfos: You've got to be kidding me Tegner! We're already plummeting towards Cradle's surface fast enough, we're just about entering the atmosphere.
Tegner: Euclid better hurry then.
Wefron Heh. Heru's going to be the death of us isn't he.
Tegner: Oh good god not you...
Euclid entered the burning board room, to find Heru sprinting across the room. He has just woken up. Good thing too.
Euclid: Come on Heru come on! You're going to be the death of us all if you don't hurry!
As the flaming Skylark majestically went spear-headed towards Cradle, up in the helm, Masfos was looking as brave as ever.
Down in the escape pod bay, the ceiling was caving in. Half of the room was on fire, and they were anxiously waiting to take off.
Wefron: Oh I say we just leave without them. They've just caused us near death now! Oh Heru has failed us hasn't he.
Parma: Make one more suggestion like that, and we'll leave without you!
Wefron: I'd like to see you try it.
Tegner: Stop it! Here they come! Come on! Get in right this moment! Wefron that means you as well! Euclid, Heru, hurry! Masfos! Launch the pod in the name of Spiral Knights!
With that, Masfos pressed the button that will launch their pod.
Grantz: Well that's a relief, but who knows where we're going.
Euclid: Cradle.
The pod softly touched down on the surface of the planet, and Tegner, Rulen, Heru, Euclid, Yezma, Wefron, Grantz, Parma and Menu burst out of the pod. Knights were scattered around the place on which the pod landed. Gazing up into the sky, to see their ship, the Skylark, plummet to it's doom.
Grantz: Oh.. My... God..
Euclid: That's something you'll never see again.
Yezma: More like something you'll never want to see again
Tegner: I was there to see the Skylark's creation, I never thought I'd see it die.
Rulen: Think about poor Masfos in the helm...
Heru: All my fault.. If only I hadn't listened to Thero.
Wefron: Never thought you would listen to Thero, you fool.
Parma: Must be a sight to behold for Masfos..
Menu: Why, would any of you like to be in his position?
Yezma: If it meant saving everyone aboard the Skylark? Yes.
Tegner: Every captain goes down with his ship. It was the respectful thing to do.
As the Skylark crashed upon the ground. They knew one thing at least. They were stuck here, on Cradle, with no Admiral.

CHAPTER 4

***Chapter 4: Formation of a Rescue***

Grantz: So... what now?
Rulen: Remember what Masfos left before we left him? Yezma's in charge now.
Tegner: Indeed, but we can't stay seated here for the rest of our days, we need to think of something.
Baraska: If I may, Captain Yezma? Some pods have not reached the planet. What are we to do with that?
Grantz: Let's go back to the question I just asked you. What are we going to do now? Now that we're here?
Euclid: Give her time people, give her time. She needs to think this through thoroughly.
Wefron: If I may voice my opinion, she's has all the time she needs. We demand a answer.
Menu: More like you do, Wefron. You're more impatient than any of us.
Yezma: We need to salvage what we have left, but not here. We need to find somewhere else.
Parma: Something hospitable for us Knights Captain?
Yezma: Search for large, yet secluded places. That is where we shall build camp.
Wefron: Hmmm, but why secluded? Why not out in the open air?
Yezma: I don't particularly want to meet the locals just yet. They might be extremely hostile towards us.
Wefron: And why would that be? They might not be hostile, maybe even friendly.
Yezma: We just crashed on their world with a ship that was on fire. A very big ship at that.
Heru: I agree, I don't think they'd be very happy now that we did that.
So, the search began. They began to uncover some of the 'locals'. These monsters included Lizard-Type things. They decided to name them 'Chromalisks'. They also found moving jelly cubes, but there needn't be a suitable name for them but that. Eventually, as the sun set over Cradle, the came across a Chasm, which seemed to be a perfect place to build camp. This became the rescue camp in which many Knights still find their homes to this day. They met very strange creatures named 'Strangers'. It was a very eerie name, especially for them. But these creatures were friendly. They provided the Knights with weapons crafted by the monsters named 'Gremlins'. The strangers helped them build their camp from scratch. They also told them of a mystical town to the north of the Rescue Camp. Haven was it's name. The stranger who seemed to be most friendly? Quince.
Euclid: So. Quince! What is this you tell us of Haven?
Quince: We, the strangers built it hundreds of years ago. It acts as a home for us, but I reside here.
Grantz: Until we most rudely invaded it?
Quince: Hm, I wouldn't say that! When I saw that ship falling to Cradle I knew you'd be coming one day.
Yezma: And here we are.
Ozlo: Indeed, now please tell me Quince. Will we ever be able to visit Haven?
Quince: Why, of course! That is if you very well wish to, of course.
Parma: And we can come and go here and to Haven as much as we please?
Quince: No. Once you reach Haven you can never come back.
Euclid: Oer. That doesn't sound too promising.
Tegner: But we need to settle it, here and now. Who will wish to visit Haven?
The discussion began. The ones who wished to visit Haven were Yezma, Tegner, Rulen, Euclid, Parma, Grantz, Ozlo, and Wefron. Menu, Baraska and Heru wished to stay at the rescue camp. Yezma was shocked to hear that Quince was staying also.
Quince: I never visit Haven. I have no need to.
With a formal salute and farewell, Yezma, Tegner, Rulen, Euclid, Parma, Grantz, Ozlo, and Wefron departed the Rescue Camp. Forever.
Days passed. They came across moving, walking skeletons that scared the life out of Parma. Wolves that moved at the speed of lightning. But at last, they reached a gigantic gate that read these words: Mundus factus est mihi carcer. It was a scary experience looking at those. Tegner, who understood the language perfectly, reported that it said: This world has become my prison. Apparently, according to a stranger by the gate, they were inscribed by a small person, who was later consumed by something like nothing else. It was named: The swarm.
Rulen: Well, here we are. At last, we have reached Haven.
The strangers began to tell them about something called 'The clockworks'. They were built by the maniacal Gremlin King Tinkinzar. They had barely ventured down into them, but they told the Knights that they should. And thus, Euclid, on behalf on the Alpha Squad, volunteered for this mission. The rest of the squad following suit, this was only the beginning of the saddest moment in history.
