- Why was the Divine Avenger buffed (making the swords spawn closer together)? If anything, that just made it easier to oneshot something with a DA charge.
- Why was the Troika line nerfed? Was there anything overpowered about it in the past?

Troika was overpowered a long time ago. That was back during the preview event so I dont know too much about it. From the wiki records it had ASI ultra and CTR ultra and I'm pretty sure the rocks from the charge attack did damage
The Divine Avenger's spread was closed since the old sword charge could be used to trigger blocks or switches on the other side of barriers by abusing the projectile's spawn. As for buff/debuff, there really isn't much of a difference between how much damage a skillful player can do. It was still easy to "juggle" monsters between projectiles then too.
The Troika line did appear to have greater damage dealt back in the day. However, we also did not have access to all these powerful Avengers, Fausts, Flourishes and Brandishes. It's far more likely that it got left behind has all these shiny combo attack charges emerged. As for the ASI/CTR, weapon leveling used to work differently in those days too. The boosts you received weren't initially limited to level 5/level 10 (did you know you had to get a weapon to level 2 to unlock the charge attack?). Also, Ultra from then is today's Very High, those values got changed too.
As for the damaging rocks, those only appeared for a short time after public release. For those that knew how to use them they could be incredibly powerful and could abuse game mechanics. I'm talking one-hitting FSC monsters with a 4-star sword and no other attack power boosts (solo, sometimes duo). The rocks could also be manipulated to launch up on the opposite side of mist barriers.
It's funny because when the avenger got changed, some people complained that it was actually a nerf and not a buff.
Previously, you could use the DA charge to hit obstacles you can't normally hit. For example, in the last arena on the depth before vanaduke, there is a party button with bricks around it, and an invisiblock on the other side. Normally, you couldn't hit the invisiblock. But with the charge, the projectile from the DA could appear on the other side of the bricks and hit the block.
It was basically just glitch abuse, which is why it was patched. The charge could also be used to hit monsters and other things across walls and blocks.
