It's a good shield on its own...but is it still a good investment for me when I already have a Barbarous Thorn Shield, Grey Owlite Shield, and am extremely close to getting a Dread Skelly?

How close is extremely

How close is extremely close?

One thing that the crest has above dread skelly is the fire resist and shock, while dread skelly itself may be more useful in ugww with the poison resist.

As far as I can see, the only differences are the resistances and that the crest trades some shadow defense for normal. Otherwise they are identical in usefulness.

The only thing I could see the use in having both is Crest for FSC and Skelly for any other Fiend Stratum.

Crest was my first Shadow shield so I'm a bit attached to it.

Don't bother, Grey owlite is

Don't bother, Grey owlite is better than CoA for FSC anyway and dread skelly looks so much cooler

Personally, CoA over skelly,

Personally, CoA over skelly, simply because fire and shock is more dangerous.

And I don't quite understand the use of crest in fsc. How many zombie slaps do you really need to take at once? Why not a grey owlite so vana fireballs and tiles don't break your shield? Besides, even the 4* owlite can take a vana mace, which I'm not sure CoA can.

CoA can withstand a mace hit from Vanaduke even though mine is not fully heated. Since Vanaduke does normal damage during the body phases, anything that is 4* or 5* with normal defense and fire/stun resist can withstand a mace hit.

I see. I've not taken my coa

I see. I've not taken my coa to fsc after it hit level 7. I just don't like it. However, it appears to be perfectly viable, so I have nothing against it.

Vana mace is all normal &

Vana mace is all normal & stun, so if owlite can take a hit, then crest of almire can take a hit.

Owlite is superior for two sections of FSC, the mask phase, and fire traps, because both of those deal elemental damage along with fire. Technically it is better for the flame throwing gun puppies, but I can't say they ever really hit me or that I bother to shield for them. However, Owlite is really only superior for vana mask phase, because when you walk into traps your shield is typically down.

CoA is superior if you get yourself surrounded by zombies, or you get trapped shielding in zombie breath since it will hold up to that and incoming swipes better. So, I would say CoA is much better for some of the arena type rooms loaded with tons of zombies all at once (say the room right before vana).

Both will work, which is better depends on how you like to derp :-D

Is it worth it if you have Dread Skelly (4*)? Not really unless you play a lot of fiend fire/shock levels and the devilites/greavers are still breaking your shield.

"Vana mace is all normal & stun"

Incorrect. Normal, stun, and fire.

Both have their place

I have BTS, Grey Owlite Shield, Dread Skelly Shield, & SS. I used to use Grey Owlite for FSC, but I run the BTS instead now without issues. I typically use my Dread Skelly Shield for T3 Fiend/Undead maps (especially arenas). The only time I have found myself wanting a CoA over the Dread has been in Shock/Fire Fiend/Undead stratum 6 arenas. The Dread Shield was also really great when I ran SL GWW.

So if I were you I would go ahead & craft that Dread as a general Shadow defense shield. If you run a lot of T3 arenas or have plans to do SL FSC then you may also want to craft a CoA. I am currently heating up a Blackened Crest myself for this very niche (I like to tune though).

@Rangerwill

Yea, I forgot it can set you on fire. I had to think about it for a while because I have enough fire protection that the fire lasts way shorter than the stun and I normally don't notice it. Either way, Owlite and CoA both have fire protection, so both would stand up the same to the mace.
