For a long time now, I've been using only a sword for my main weapon. I've used my gun only for hitting switches. I know that I'll have to get a gun sooner or later. So what guns should I look into with the fact that I often do a lot of undead stratums?
Handguns
Sentenza and Argent are both multiple damage type weapons-
Sentenza is useful against gremlins and is "good" against wolvers (calling them 'beasts' would be an overstatement, its quite literally one enemy, chromas are too derpy to amount to anything).
Argent Peacemaker is useful against undead and vanaduke, and is "good" against devilites, whom will dodge your shots and throw things at you.
Althought Sentenza/Argent may/will soon be getting changed to pure damage, so the above may only be accurate for another week or three. Or for a good 6 months. Pending.
For normal damage, Valiance is a decent all around gun, neutralizer is poor in comparison to biohazard although is alright for fighting slags, and supernova is also somewhat poor in comparision to Polaris, because as Demonic said, elemental ROCKS against turrets.
I need advice! Which 3* gun and swords should i get that are good in both the clockworks and lockdown?
Flourish/snarble barb seem to be the best weapons for T3 lock down. However,I assume,T2 lockdown is filled with dusker clones(cobalt too?) so a piercing weapon might not be a good idea.So a brandish might well do the job.It gets trickier with guns because alchemers are almost useless at 2*/3* level.A super blaster might work. But then again if you are looking at T3 LD(you will get there sooner or later) then flourish/BTB and sentenza/polaris might be the way to go.I think you should concentrate on getting suitable gear for T3 LD rather than look at weapons that would work fine only for T2 LD.If u think i'm wrong, please say so.
Athresh, saying that piercing isn't popular due to defences, is like saying all the skolvers in T3 use DA and GF. Not true. Flourish/barb are still some of the best weapons in use, damage type or no damage type.
With upcoming changes, both sent and ap will be useful in clockworks and lockdown.
I get the point you are trying to make there. No doubt flourish/barb are among the best swords in game(over powered some wo\uld say). But,considering just how many wolver/cobalt guys there are in T2 it might be a good idea to get a brandish or something. However, now that i think of it,flourish/barb must do a fine job nonetheless.
I agree with your AP and senti suggestion, taking into account the changes made in this patch.
You don't have to get a gun. This game is playable all sword, all gun, or all bomb.
Gun damage type is usually determined by whether you wish to use it as a sidearm, or as main dps. Sword usually take the role of dps, so guns are left as a secondary to deal with long ranged turrets. In such a scenario, an elemental gun will serve you well. There are 3 kinds of turret, polyp, puppy, and howlitzer. Puppies and howls are weak to elemental, and polyps are neutral. One can see the benefits of being able to take most turrets easily.
Guns for this scenario: Polaris at 5*, it upgrades from the 2* pulsar, a boss token reward from roarmulous twins. It applies shock at times, and the expanded bullet mechanic of the pulsar line interrupts turrets, keeping you safe.
For guns to use as main dps, you need to consider the 3 damage types to be covered. For elemental, you have the choice of alchemers, 3 status dealing and one pure damage. The polaris mentioned above is not a good elemental weapon due to the fact that expanded bullets knock the target back, reducing dps from following shots. It also annoys the heck out of ur teammates with the blinding light and knockback.
Alchemers are 2 shot per clip guns. The bullets, when hitting a target, will split randomly to the left of your knight. This ricochet allows you to potentially deal twice the damage, starting from mk2, where the ricochet effect is gained.
Nova for pure damage, magma for fire, storm for shock, hail for freeze. Prisma, firo, volt, and cryo, at lower stars. Note the status alchemers have a lower base damage than the nova.
For shadow handguns, you have 2 choices. A shadow alchemer dealing equivalent damage as the nova, with no status infliction. Biohazard, a gun from the catalyzer line. Slow shots, charged shot does no damage, but instead applies a charge to the target, which explodes when a normal shot comes in contact with it.
Piercing guns are rather hard to use, all suffering from some sort of loss in mobility. Callahan is 2 shot, rooted to the spot as you fire. Blitz needle is multiple shots per attack, but roots you to the spot until all shots are fired.
