I'm trying to use slow swords because some of my frends recomended them. But for the life of me, I cant seem to use them properly
Any advice on controlling slow swords?
I think im using my Sealed Sword wrong
Timing. Practice. For now, simply use the first swing and shield cancel. As you get better, you will know when it is safe to unload the full combo, and when it is better to just back off. If you have autoaim on, turn it off now.
One tip you should know, you can "drag" the second swing. Attack, hold as if you are charging. Because heavy swords are slow, you can walk a square or so in any direction, let go, and complete the combo. Something else you can do is turn in a different direction to attack something else.
About the only tip I can give is don't be greedy with the second swing, especially against T2 or higher jelly cubes. If the second swing misses, you'll very reliably get a face full of jelly horns.
Use the first swing and shield cancel unless you know the second swing will connect.
Demonicsothe, the swordmaster guide on the wiki calls that technique the Lunge, and it works with all swords, not just slow ones. I'd actually argue that it's more important for 3-hit swords, because it's sometimes hard to land all three hits unless you use it.
It's easier to leave yourself vulnerable with slow swords than with fast ones, so you need to take some time to get used to them, and plan ahead. And they will never match the single-target DPS of a fast sword (if wielded correctly). IMO, their only truly great attribute is the large hit area.
Get some ASI. Seriously. Equip SSB and watch as your SS gets dramatically easier to use.
It takes practice. Try to attack groups. Check yourself before swinging a second time. A bit of ASI will help. Shield cancel often. Remember that you can change direction after the first hit.
But most of all, practice.
Memorize and master the distance and reach of the second swing, so you can judge on the fly whether or not it's worth using it or not.
Also, lots and lots of ASI. At least Very High (a full suit of Vog Cub will give you this, otherwise go for two trinkets).
Also, keep in mind that heavy swords encourage a defensive, AoE-focused playstyle, as opposed to aggressively bursting down one enemy/a few enemies at a time. This is not for everyone.
You need to learn the timing of the swing pattern. Sometimes it's in your best interest to use the full two swing combo, and sometimes you'll want to swing once and shield-cancel so that you don't get hit.
Basically, practice is the only thing that'll teach you the timing of your slow sword vs enemy attack patterns and what works against which enemy.
Remember, with a heavy sword your best friends are the wide arc of the swing, long reach, and the ability to throw enemies where you want them. If you keep those in mind when you attack, you should do well. :)
