Honestly, kat swarms are worse than fiends.
Call me crazy, but I can deal with Kat swarms and I'm not too enraged when I die to them. They're incredibly hard to avoid and it takes some fancy footwork to avoid taking damage from them, but usually I'm okay with when I do, because fights with them are honestly rather exciting and the amount of maneuvering you have to do is something I enjoy.
Looking at the video right now and I can say that this is probably one of the most valuable pieces of advice that's been handed out on the thread so far. Thank you - I'll be giving this a look through.
I'll probably be investing in some armor types that are more suited to dealing with fiends other than Fallen or Ironmight in the time being (the only 5* armor sets I have), but in the meantime even the tactics in the video will work wonders in telling me what to do for now.
...though at this point, even if I learn how to deal with them, I don't think anything could make fighting Fiends in their current state anything more than drudgery. And given that this game's entire MO is that you don't have to grind up the best gear there is to deal with all of the elements of the game, it seems awkward that Fiends completely break that apart, which is the cause of most of my complaints.
"Games must be designed with lag in mind" Really, you really believe that? So what you are saying - and i think Asukalanforum has already covered this - is that you find fiends hard because you have a poor connection. Hardware is YOUR problem, this game does not need any more nerfs, If i find something my pc cannot handle, I buy a bigger graphics card, cpu, add more ram, or I don't play it. So your options are to get a better connection or don't. If you do, good for you and if you don't; stop whining.
Or perhaps you could read what I said earlier in that my ISP does not offer anything better.
Besides, as I thought would be readily apparent, lag is only a part of the problem and exacerbates the fact that dealing with fiends is a test of reflexes, something which should be avoided in a game that is in its very nature online. I gave an explanation on this earlier: even if you have a small amount of lag, it can be enough to move fiends from being possible to react to, to having the reaction times needed be at or below the minimum human reaction time. The only other option to make things doable is to get gear suitable to conquering fiends, which I am looking into but is still a personal bandage for a problem in their design that is continually ongoing. Even FSC doesn't absolutely require the most fitting gear based on many solo videos by skilled players.
And yes, if a game is online, you're going to be dealing with lag and some accomodations need to be made. Period. Just because you have no lag does not mean that the issue doesn't exist - look back on the general forums and there are a spurt of people complaining about lag. In fact, the EU servers were recently added in response to this. But this is not even my largest point, it's just adding onto already-broken balancing.
And in fact, if you'd have read the thread before this, you'd have already noticed that many do not have a huge amount of money to spend on graphics cards and upgrades per month. My issue is not some isolated case which nobody else shares, etc. etc. why am I repeating myself.
Keep in mind that I have another option: appeal to the dev team to try and change what I'm complaining about (which is what this entire subforum is for; suggestions), for reasons I have already stated a multitude of times and which apparently never occurred to anyone to be a viable alternative, which I'm putting into place right now.
I have also suggested that fiends be reworked and nerfed in terms of speed, but buffed in other areas so that they remain a challenge. This was apparently ignored, and was called the same thing as a nerf by Asukalanforum, so at this part I'm starting to wonder whether the "anti-nerf" policy is actually anti-change.
Can someone please ask me a question I haven't already repeated myself on half a dozen times?
Ok firstly, "that many do note have a huge amount of money" do not mention other peoples typo's if you cannot get it right yourself.
"Or perhaps you could read what I said earlier in that my ISP does not offer anything better" Right, then i think i covered that too..."So your options are to get a better connection or don't. If you do, good for you and if you don't; stop whining"
"many do note have a huge amount of money to spend on graphics cards and upgrades per month" "I buy a bigger graphics card, cpu, add more ram, or I don't play it" (can you spot the OR?).
I have read this entire thread and see no merit in anything you are suggesting.
Ps. I am in the UK and never had a huge problem with them even before they added the EU servers.
Pps. Oh and another one who puts a period then puts a period "period." *sigh*
They didn't nerf the other monsters because of lag. At least, not the main reason they were nerfed. OOO's solution to lag was to implement more servers. And yet, I don't see you asking servers be added wherever you do live.
Also, why not ask your ISP to improve their service? That way, your entire online experience will be better, not just SK.
Test of reflexes is in almost every game online. I suppose you hate lockdown, any sort of action game, and anything not turn based.
I don't think Melissan asked you a question. Why are points repeated? Because they are why people disagree with you
1. Lag. Your problem. Not OOO's, outside of adding servers in different locations.
2. Fiend Mechanics. There is a way to defeat them. People mentioned how to do it. People have mentioned how to dodge devilites, even with lag. Move in a circle around them, not straight at them. Also, by going solo, you choose to play that floor in a way that is both dangerous in some situations and beneficial in other.
See the last post I made for my own thoughts on the matter.
Your most recent arguments aren't even worthy of a graceful response, and even if I did argue against what you were saying it would be summarily ignored in favor of skimming my argument and throwing around insults.
So therefore: I have already answered all of your "points." Agree or not, at the very least try to come up with some rebuttals that aren't just insults, trite whining about skill levels, elitism, straw-man attacks, or whining about people suggesting changes to the game in the proper subforum for such activities.
But just because this made me laugh:
"Also, why not ask your ISP to improve their service? That way, your entire online experience will be better, not just SK."
I would love to see a world in which THAT would make any difference. What reality are you a part of?...
You don't believe what we say is of any worth, therefore, no one has to take your thread to be of any real reason to nerf fiends.
Please put this thread in the graveyard where it belongs, many people have given you enough advice about how to deal with your"issue".
...this thread is only a day old and you want it in the Graveyard? Intolerant much?
Quit bumping the thread if it infuriates you so.
Not intolerant. If anything, op is refusing to acknowledge what we say. And it was not a bump. It is the first mention in this thread of closing, due to op's attitude towards people trying to help.
I've already heeded Nicoya's and Gwen's (and others') well-worded and benign suggestions to get better gear, but I don't feel like wading through personal insults and tirades about my skill level/Internet connection (most of which are impossible to follow through with)/disposition to find something of worth. I have no obligation to, and the "issue" is more than simply the fact that I have issues facing them:
What I'm arguing is that Fiends, like every other mob in the game, should in fact not have to have an armor set specifically tailored for dealing with them, due to the swiftness of their attacks and the extreme difficulty of dodging them. Even in Nicoya's video, he got hit quite a lot by cheap-shots from Devilites, and if at all possible said attacks should be more avoidable, so that players are not dependent on extremely specific gear sets to win.
Should I get better gear, all it'd mean is that suddenly I could beat them. It wouldn't change the fact that they're currently broken encounters and ones that introduce fake difficulty by more or less acting as their own gear-checks. All of the points saying to get better gear I have actively heeded, and in fact have started to act upon ingame. It's the best form of advice I've been given so far, but it's far from a solution to what I think of the problem.
I am patient enough to be put through personal insults, malicious attacks on what my intent is, and jabs at my skill as a player, but please do not tread the line of libel and say that I have not heeded a single good word to the contrary.
You said most of your problem was due to lag, so people responded to it. We aren't saying the lag is your fault, but using lag as a reason to nerf is not a good reason. If you wish to take insult where no insult was meant, so be it.
Nobody has a good opinion of "I'm good, but this is op/broken" attitude. Its the way you portrayed yourself in the op.
I don't use specialized sets for anything. Call me a clone, but I use skolver everywhere. How is that specialized purely for fiends?
Since you have decided to lump me in with the group of people who just goes "trolololo no skill scrub", go back and read my first post in this thread.
The Fallen set is designed to be used in FSC, where the fiend penalty is balanced by the shadow and fire resistance, and the fact that the only fiends you'd face are slow-moving trojans. It's right up there with Mercurial Demo for the most specialized set in the game. It's naturally going to be terrible in a situation that exploits it. There is no other gear in the game that ACTIVELY PENALIZES you against an enemy type. If Fiends are a gear check, the only thing they're checking is "Fallen? Yup, this guy's toast" before making you toast, and moving on; any other armor would be an improvement.
Your latency issues may never go away, but your gear is something you can change. I'd like to challenge you to put literally ANY OTHER SET on, other than Fallen, and do a fiend level, then report back to us on your findings. I will even pay for your tab if you hit me up in game (same IGN).
To translate what Arquebus is saying so you won't miss the important stuff in it amid the supposed "personal insults":
Fiends really only gear checks the fallen set, due to the negative bonus. Any other set will do fine against them.
Running full pace at a perpendicular angle from a devilite 4-5 blocks away and I get hit anyway.
With my bad connection (one permabar) I have to raise my shield a whole half-second before they even show that they are going to attack in order to block the attack.
Look at the current gate formation for the Vanaduke gate, tier 3. The first level is a Shock Fiend level, and has no other levels on that depth.
I think something needs to be done here.
@Asukalanforum that video...well i watched the whole thing and nearly pissed myself laughing.
But back on topic.
I know the levels are hard. I've died multiple times from them. I've also died in LD. Obviously that means that everyone but me should be nerfed in LD so I never die and waste my hard earned crowns. Even then it takes effort to get those unlike the mist energy they give out for free.
Enough of my sarcasm. I die, you die, everyone dies. The difference is that most of us suck it up, learn how to deal with it and do so.
